God remains good and his plan for a life does not change, even when personal dreams break; the person is to learn to trust and to go through healing.
God's plan for your life has not changed, just because perhaps your plan, the one you thought was it, has changed.
The text tells the story of the swimmer Zoe, who after ten years of competitive sport and a scholarship in the USA narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympics. Her coach, who knew Jesus, asked her whether sport still served her life or was destroying it. She then ended her career and experienced a phase of disorientation, illness, and healing. She describes how she learned to place her relationship with God above her athletic dreams and to trust God, even when her plans changed. The core message is that God remains good, even when personal dreams shatter, and that God's plan does not change just because one's own plan changes. The text is aimed at people who are themselves experiencing shattered dreams and encourages them to hold on to hope and trust God. A concrete healing process is described, which lasted two years and is still ongoing.

Welcome to a new episode of Real Talk today with Zoe. It’s so nice that you’re here. Hi, thank you for letting me be here. Very, very cool. We’re starting right away, and today it’s a bit about, wow, when dreams shatter, what do I actually do? Maybe you know that feeling. You feel directly addressed. Zoe, you experienced this very concretely and very intensely, but let’s start at the beginning. Your dream was to swim, I don’t know, to become a champion or what exactly? Tell us a little about it. Exactly. So, I was a high-performance athlete in swimming for many years. I spent 5 hours a day in the water for 10 years of my life. When I was 10 years old, I started having the dream of going to the Olympic Games and being successful. I realized I had talent. Water was my home, the place where I felt comfortable, where I could breathe, where I could let go. And so I started this journey with the focus and goal of wanting to stand on the biggest stage, and preferably at the top of the podium. Intense. Wow. So, you were also very successful. You then received a scholarship, right? Exactly. So, I was blessed with much success. I was then able to go to college in the USA on a scholarship, and there, so to speak, train. And, uh, yes, that was when things started to change a bit. And your goal was, so to speak, simply to participate in the Olympics. That was the goal you were working towards, right? Exactly, I always kept that goal in mind, and indeed in 2021 during the pandemic we had an Olympic qualifier, and I missed the time by 0.22 seconds, which is a fraction in the swimming world, and for me, a world collapsed back then, because this dream, which was so tangible, suddenly just dissolved into thin air. All the hard work felt as if I had done it in vain. You mentioned that something also happened with your coach in the USA. Do you want to tell us briefly about that? Uh, exactly. So, I was at a pretty broken point when I came to the USA. I had been experiencing a burnout, uh, a kind of overtraining, for weeks, months before. I really pulled myself together and said, okay, I’m going to the USA. I had the impression that God was saying, go. And there, a lot changed. So, my coach actually knew Jesus, and he started to see me not just as an athlete, as a kind of robot machine, but really as a human being, as a soul, as someone, uh, almost as a daughter. And that triggered something in me, uh, which has also changed my life in the long term. Can you say what exactly changed because of that? Ah, exactly. So, before I went to the USA, I had been struggling for a very long time with, uh, overtraining, burnout, a disorder, uh, depressive phases, and I was at a very bad point, and my coach then looked me in the eyes and said, Zoe, is it really worth it to you to sacrifice all of that for your health, for your life? Are you at the point where it still gives you joy, where it serves you, where it brings you happiness, or is the sport actually only destroying you right now, and isn’t it perhaps time to leave this sport behind? Wow. Wow. It’s intense that there were people in your life who spoke to you like that, because I would say that society is rather out to push you to the maximum, so okay, you have your goal of participating in the Olympics, then do it. No matter what stands in your way. And, uh, it’s so intense that this coach said that to you. And then exactly, tell us a little about what happened then? You came back to Germany, how did you experience God? Because I can imagine you were probably also mega disappointed with God, because you thought it was a dream that God had given you. Exactly, that is what one
For a long time, or rather, I myself believed for a long time that God places dreams in our hearts and that He accompanies us in them and that ultimately these dreams are allowed to come true. And I still believe that to this day. Only, um, I have realized one thing, that, um, I would give anything in the world for my relationship and who I am and my life to suffer, just because I am pursuing a dream that I thought or think is something that God has prepared for me. It sounds a bit crazy. Um, but for me it was actually so, I understood in the USA that my heart actually wanted to see God served and placed in first place. And I once, a month before I decided to really end my career, I said to God, if it is what you want from me and it no longer includes a swimming career, then let it be so. But I want to follow you and step into your footsteps, follow your paths that you have prepared for my life. And I believe that was the key point, that I was able to let go for the first time and say, yes, if it is God's will, then let it happen. It is not that God is therefore no longer good, but on the contrary. And I came to Germany and I had no idea at all where to go with myself. I no longer had a career. I dropped out of my studies. Uh, I moved to a country within 8 months and moved back again. Um, I actually no longer knew where up and down was. I was still sick. My body was completely exhausted. I felt extremely weak. I was not myself, I still had a disorder and everything had accumulated. And the only thing that I held on to was a thing that my dad gave me and said, so don't ask why, but how does it continue now? And the second thing is, God is still good and He remains good. And I realized that if I start or if I know that I have a God, if I believe in a God, I believe in the Word of God and in the Word of God it stands that God remains good, regardless of the circumstances. And they were the things that I simply clung to for a long time and said, okay God, here is my life, no idea, you do it. Wow, I find it so impressive that you did not say in all of that, oh, how can God allow this, right? And you just described how you were feeling and it was probably not gone overnight. So, it was probably, it is maybe also still a process. Tell a little about it. So, overnight such things do not go away three times. So God can change things, but it is not always, I always say His plans are different with each of us. Um, for me a journey only began there, a journey in which I had to learn to trust, in which I had to learn to be myself, what it means to be a woman, what it means to no longer be an athlete, a family. Um, all these things, where one as, I say, a human, a normal human gets to know, you do not know as a high-performance athlete. And for me it was a journey of healing, but a journey in which I had to learn to be gracious with myself, gracious with what is happening right now and to trust that God means well with me, that I am His daughter, that I can trust Him. And it was really a day for day pure trust in all of this and a healing that began and it is now two years later and I needed two years to heal again physically, mentally, spiritually in my relationship with God and half a year ago I was allowed to experience something that is only possible with God the Father's help. And that is I, uh, started going back to the swimming hall again, where I for years
I have trained, where grief, suffering, and joy were so close together, where there is a place that has challenged me extremely, but I said, I will not let this be taken from me, I will not let the enemy take this from me, and I want to experience ten-year-old Zoe again. And I started to go through a healing process there, together with God, who has repeatedly shown me where I was in that moment, where I was in those, uh, hours, when I was training there, um, what does it do to me, where is the Zoe who loved being in the water, feeling alive, and simply, simply being and arriving, and I started to heal within it. But I am not yet at the end of my journey. I have done competitive sports for 10 years. Someone once told me, it can take just as long for all those things to be healed, piece by piece, but I know that it does not have to happen all at once. And I am not sick or unhealed just because things are still there, but on the contrary, I am healed in so many things and have become myself again, where I say, that is a, that is a miracle of God, that it is possible. And still, there are moments where I go into the swimming hall the other way around, where I drive a different way there, where I sometimes avoid people, where I deliberately dive underwater because I do not want to hear the ambient noise. Such banal things, but it is not terrible, rather it is simply a path that I am allowed to walk with my Creator, with my Creator. I find it so cool that you really say, I do not constantly question why it happened, but I move forward now, because I believe, each of us knows that in life, right, that dreams burst. Perhaps not as dramatically as with you, with such a major career, but each of us has dreams, no matter how big, and I believe everyone has already experienced dreams bursting. Now, perhaps as a final question, what would you say to a person who is now, uh, watching or listening here and thinks, yes, exactly, that happened to me. My dreams have burst. It is so hard for me to see the good in it right now. Um, so I believe, one thing I have learned is that God’s plan for your life has not changed, just because perhaps your plan, which you thought it was, has changed. And also what is written in Romans, uh, ultimately all things work together for good, and I am allowed to experience that, please, I am allowed to experience how I walk hand in hand with God and sometimes I do not see where up and down are and how it continues. But I cling to this hand and I experience that the things from my past serve me for good piece by piece, and to hold on to this hope alone and to know, I have a good God and that remains better, I always say without discussion, without compromises, to hold on to that, whether one sometimes believes or not, and then to say, and I go one day at a time and it will, it will come. Yes, I have also heard this sentence. God often creates from the greatest pain that for which he actually created you. Amen. You work today with professional athletes. You are actually doing exactly that, right? As a conclusion, perhaps so powerfully, God writes history with each of us, and that is what I simply want to give to you. Thank you Zoe, really, for your honesty, for your story, and I hope it has encouraged you. Feel truly blessed and God has something planned for you. Do not give up your dreams, but lay them down before God, and I bless you to recognize what God’s ways are in your life. Be blessed. Be blessed.

Sehr, sehr cool. Krass. Wow. Das heißt, du warst auch sehr erfolgreich. Du hast dann Stipendium bekommen, richtig? Genau. Egal, egal was dich in den Weg stellt. Sei gesegnet. Sei gesegnet.
