The Bible contains a good news for LGBTQ+ people from Genesis to Revelation, and queerness is already holy, so that faith can be re-read from a celebratory rather than defensive stance.
The text is an announcement and book presentation by the podcast 'Queer Theology' for the new book 'Reading the Bible Through Queer Eyes'. The two hosts Brian G. Murphy and Shannon T. L. Kearns present the work as the result of over a decade of work. The central message is that the Bible contains a good news for LGBTQ+ people from Genesis to Revelation. The text emphasizes that queerness is already holy and the holy is already queer. A shift from a defensive stance to a celebratory, life-giving perspective is called for. Listeners are urged to pre-order the book to support the movement of queer joy and the good queer gospel. The book is released on December 1 in various formats and offers pre-orderers bonuses such as a community membership.

Welcome to the Queer Theology podcast. I'm Brian G. Murphy and I'm Father Shannon T. L. Kearns. We're the co-founders of QueerTheology.com and your hosts. From Genesis Revelation, the Bible declares good news to LGBTQ plus people and we want to show you how. Tuning each week on Sunday for conversations about Christianity, queerness and transness and how they can enrich one another. We're glad you're here. Hello. Welcome to this special episode of the podcast. We are here today with a very special episode because our brand new book, Reading the Bible Through Queer Eyes, Good News for LGBTQ plus people from Genesis to Revelation is available for pre-order now. We are dropping the cover reveal on our social media. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous cover. The designers did such an incredible job with it and we are so, so excited to kick off this campaign to get this book into as many hands as possible. I feel like we have been working on this book for like over a decade. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. It's both like we've been working on it pretty seriously for probably three years now. But also like this book is the culmination of over a decade of storytelling and work. And we are just so, so excited for you to see it and to read it and to join with us in building this movement of queer joy and good queer gospel. Yeah, I'm just really excited for y'all to get this book in your hands because, you know, you're listening to this podcast, so obviously you know it. But that religion and faith has been used against queer people for so long. Many of us are like wounded by it. But also like, and I don't know, maybe you feel this way, maybe you don't. But I think that we know sort of instinctively when we come to conversations about faith from like a defensive posture or reactive posture. It just doesn't feel great. It doesn't feel good to be like on our back foot feet. And so this book is a celebration of the ways in which queerness is already holy and the sacred is already queer and how new divine insights spring forward when we are able to bring our whole queer selves to the text, to the Bible and how the Bible can speak a good word for LGBTQ people and also sometimes a prophetic, inspiring, challenging word. If you've been a long time listener of the podcast, you will recognize some of the stories that we tell in this book. But what's really excited about writing a book as opposed to an article or an email or a podcast episode is there's a lot more space to dive deeper into stories to add, you know, just like more details, richer interpretations to revisit some of these stories five, ten, fifteen years later with even fresher eyes to see like what additional insights spring up as time continues to go on. And we often revisit the same like this, the same passages over and over again on this podcast because queerness is like an onion is always another layer to uncover. And so this book really is able to go deeper than ever before into just like the beautiful wonders of queer faith. Yeah. So the book comes out December 1st. It's going to be available in hard cover and ebook. And there's an audio book as well. All of that, we believe, are going to drop at the same time. So whatever way you like to consume your books, it will be available for you. And you can pre-order from from anywhere, from your local independent bookstore, from the big chains, wherever it makes the most sense for you to do what you need to do. I feel like we've said this before, but I just want to say it again, like pre-orders are super, super important. It lets both the publisher, but also other media know that this book is interesting and that people are excited about it. So if you can pre-order it, that would be super, super helpful to Brian and I and would just signal to the world that, yes, people are hungry for for books about queerness and spirituality. And and like Brian said, not from a defensive posture, but from one that is life giving and that says that there's there's something that our queerness and our spiritual and our spirituality really has to offer the world. That's that's a real gift. And we want to make pre-eatering exciting for you as well. And so there are a handful of bonuses that are available if you pre-order you're helping us out by getting those orders in early and we're helping you out by giving you some special bonuses. One of them is a all access membership to our sanctuary come a collective community. There's study guides and even an opportunity for us to zoom in and be a part of a small discussion at your church or organization or other type of group. All of the information for that will be on the page as well. Yeah, so again, we're super, super excited for you to see and experience this book. It's it's been a real labor of love, I think, for both of us. And and we're excited to share it with you. And so it is available for pre-order now. You can go anywhere, anywhere you want to get your books and and get your pre-order in. And we're just we're grateful for your support over the years. And we're looking forward to sharing this with you. We will drop links to some of the places that you can get books, all the big ones, plus a few of our local indie favorites at queertheology.com slash pre-order. We hope you enjoyed this episode. If you would like to go deeper into the ways that queerness can enrich faith and faith can enrich queerness, then you have got to check out our new book, Reading the Bible Through Queer Eyes, which comes out December 1st.
