Maine needs a senator who actively defends LGBTQ+ rights and democracy, rather than supporting Donald Trump's policies, and Troy Jackson is the right candidate for that.

The people of Maine deserve a senator who doesn't just talk about standing up to Donald Trump but actually does it when it counts.

The text is a press release from the Human Rights Campaign PAC announcing its endorsement of Troy Jackson in the U.S. Senate race in Maine. HRC President Kelley Robinson argues that Maine needs a senator who actively stands up against Donald Trump and his policies, and accuses incumbent Senator Susan Collins of having supported Trump's candidates and legislation. Jackson is presented as a champion of LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, and the Equality Act. The text cites specific votes by Collins on Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Bondi, Noem, and a tax and social policy bill as evidence of a 'troubling track record.' It points to the mobilization of over 420,000 Equality Voters in Maine, who, according to the HRC, are younger, more ethnically diverse, and more female than the general electorate. The text closes with the note that LGBTQ+ adults make up 12.6 percent of Maine's population, and implicitly calls for voting for Jackson in November.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — proudly endorsed Troy Jackson for U.S. Senate in Maine. “Maine is ready for a change of power in the U.S. Senate, and so is the rest of the country. We’re fortunate that Troy Jackson stepped up to offer a new vision as a pro-equality champion and a defender of democracy,” said Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson. “Mainers deserve a Senator who doesn’t just talk about defying Donald Trump but who does it when it matters. Susan Collins voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and rubber stamped Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem’s appointments, She also cast a key vote to advance Trump’s massive redistribution of wealth away from the working class . Troy Jackson will do what he says he’ll do, and he’s got a track record to prove it. That’s why HRC and the 420,000 Equality Voters in Maine are going all-in to get him elected this November.” “This campaign is about building a future where your rights don't depend on how much you make, where you live, or who you are,” said Troy Jackson . “I’ve fought for this future here in Maine, and I’ll do the same in the U.S. Senate. I’m damn proud to have the support of the Human Rights Campaign in this fight.” A lifelong Mainer, Jackson spent six years in the Maine House of Representatives and 14 years in the Maine Senate, including six years in the latter chamber as Senate President. He is a strong advocate for protecting LGBTQ+ rights and abortion access, pledging support for the Equality Act, federal nondiscrimination protections that would guarantee the rights of LGBTQ+ people throughout the country. He also has pledged to take on hate crimes directed against the LGBTQ+ community, and he has a perfect score from Equality Maine on their 2024 legislative scorecard. An Opponent With a Concerning Track Record Incumbent Senator Susan Collins has claimed that she is not a rubber stamp for the MAGA policies of President Donald Trump, but in some of the biggest votes of her career, she has chosen to support his harmful nominees and destructive legislation, while doing nothing to counter Trump’s dismantling of critical government agencies. She voted to confirm Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, saying she believed they would not overturn the abortion protections of Roe v. Wade (which they did), stripping away a right that had existed for almost 50 years. She has also confirmed a number of other anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ federal judges put forward by Trump, voted to confirm anti-LGBTQ+ nominees like Pam Bondi and Kristin Noem, and she voted to advance the president’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which will increase Maine’s uninsured population by 33,000 people , before voting no on final passage once her vote couldn’t stop final passage. HRC’s Commitment to Maine Equality Voters — including the more than 420,000 voters in Maine — are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand. And according to new HRC Foundation data , LGBTQ+ adults make up 12.6 percent of Maine’s population. HRC PAC has made significant investments in Maine over the years, working to elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot. Today, HRC PAC continues to build on this legacy by mobilizing Equality Voters and supporting leaders, like Troy Jackson, who are committed to ensuring every Mainer can live free from discrimination and with full dignity under the law.
