Vedanta Intensive with Ira Schepetin – Episode 10: The Fourth Concept: Absolute versus Relative Standpoint – Part 2

Yoga Vidya e.V. · Traditionelles Vedanta – Yoga Vidya · 2026-08-03 · Horn-Bad Meinberg · Source

Humility · main message Truthfulness · carrying Knowledge · carrying

From the absolute standpoint only the one Self exists, which makes individual enlightenment illusory, while from the relative standpoint the distinction between teacher and student as well as the study of the scriptures are regarded as useful means to liberation.

I am an ignorant person. I cannot answer any wisdom for myself at all. I am in the same duality as you, a life presented. I am truly identified with my mind and therefore I am truly an ignorant man.

The text deals with the Vedantic concept of the distinction between the absolute and the relative standpoint. The speaker explains that from the absolute standpoint no individual 'Gnanis' (enlightened ones) exist, since only the Self (Brahman) is real, while from the relative standpoint teachers and students are regarded as useful. He emphasises his own humility and ignorance by describing himself as an ordinary person who merely stands on the shoulders of his teachers. The Bhagavad Gita is used as a central source, in particular the concept of the 'field' (body) and the 'knower of the field' (Self). The speaker makes clear that he is not a guru, does not earn an income from it, and has no students, but shares the teaching out of love for the subject. He encourages the listeners to examine the texts themselves and to recognise the truth within themselves, which is described as the highest happiness and peace.

So, if I say that the Gnani is that, and it is only, oh, there is another, a great fact, what I am saying. Perhaps I can ask a question. In the light of what I am saying, how many Gnanis there are, there are no Gnanis. Goppa, there are no Gnanis. There is no Gnani. And Hannah says, it is only one Gnani. That is pretty much the same answer. Yes, I think that is the right resolution association. That is the right understanding of that. Goppa, what is the Knowledge for you? It is more like a question whether you want to answer it. No, that is a good question, but I will answer with my legs to hear what you think, what is the Knowledge for us? I ask Tobias, what do you think, what does this knowledge do for us? This Knowledge is that which we are as duration and the world with the resolution association and the pain, that is the knowledge of the knowing. It is the knowledge of the knowing, the knowledge of the knowing, the knowledge of the knowing. The knowledge of the knowing, the knowledge of the knowing, the knowledge of the knowing, that is the knowledge of the knowing, that is the knowledge of the knowing. That is the knowledge of the knowing. I ask Tobias, what is the Knowledge for us? With this knowledge it is not, and the knowledge reminds me, whether you want to answer it. What do you think of this answer? I ask Tobias, what are you peppering? because this un-foreseeability, which we all have, that I am that and that is mine, is sublated by the Knowledge that I am that. I like his answer and therefore I go there closely also with a brain from the relative perspective. Just ended is really this light suffering, because we all look from this relative perspective and that is then overwritten with the other, because that is grasped differently. But from the absolute standpoint of the pre-impulse, there is absolutely no benefit, except what I said from the other day, hopefully humorously, you are finally the one who always asks what the benefit is. I do not know if you find that humorous, but... From the absolute perspective there is naturally nothing, because there is nothing there except this thing, as I said right at the beginning and that was naturally meant humorously, that one perhaps gets rid of the one who asks this question. Let me briefly clarify what I also said at the beginning. I am an ignorant person. I cannot answer any wisdom for myself at all. I am in the same duality as you, a life is presented. I am truly identified with my mind and therefore I am truly an ignorant man. To teach this understanding does not necessarily make you a Gianni, does not make you a Gianni. It is true that what I have shared with everyone here is not something one can find as common fact. But I am sure that what I am sharing with you here is something special. But I am clear that what I am saying is that you can find this exact mind. I am trying to answer the Bhagavad Gita so that all who can observe themselves whether I am doing that or whether I am switching what I have here with the Bedanke-Teaching from the Scripture. You can check me on that. The other thing is, I feel, I am simply on the signs of my teachers. I have not found that or recognized that. They told me that, I am the best of my capacity. I have bought it with you. No one has to accept that. I am not a teacher, I have no astrum. No one will find me anywhere. I have no money for that. That is not a business. I do not support myself to do such a thing. I love the subject. I feel very deeply and beautifully. I like that I am doing something with you, something I do, something very special and very unique, when you hear it, and you hear it, from many other teachers. And you feel that what I take on with you, something to look at, a new Wicht, then it will be an advantage for you, if you are the true Seekers, if you are truly interested and you want to know, then it will be an advantage for you, that is number 1. And the second is that I will receive much of this advantage. Because in this case in time, to communicate that, my opinion also has to be published. And so I can speak from this point of view. And so it is like a Sathin for me, an advantage for me. And the third is that my teachers spent their lives, that it was special. And so they wrote many books about them and they told about them. It was a bit of the thing, what I call my teachers. I come around the people who visit me, and I speak about them. And that is it. I have no disciples or students, no school or Ashram. It is nothing like that. I have no Ashram whatsoever and I am also just this very ordinary person, not different, not less ignorant than you. That I had said at the beginning. I also strive or I always point out to you again and again, how I quote the Gita. So, you can verify that. You can verify, that this guy here is right. What I share here, what I share as empty parts, with which I somehow that, what I did, what I compile, but I stand on the shoulders of my teachers and in a certain way it is of course the first, that you hopefully can benefit from it, if you are this true seeker and here something of it, if you hear it, can take away. The second is but also one, that is of course I, if I teach you or share with you, that here parts, that for me it is a great benefit, because also for that I can direct my mind, my mind inward and can then try, from this point inward directed, from there to speak with you. That is a great benefit for me and at the same time the third is also my teachers, from whose shoulders I stand and go again on the shoulders of the teachers. And so it is for me a certain Sea, because they spent their whole life with it, wrote many books about it and so I go where I am invited and try to share a little of it. I have no discipleship, I have no students, I do not generate my income from it. I, yes, um. I said, okay, now we say a lot. And you can still say a lot. Okay. So, I will simply return for a minute, because, if you listen to this teaching, it can be very depressing. If you say, you will never remember the court, you will never know, if you are a Gyani, there is no Gyani, but if you understand that, if I say that, I speak from the absolute point of the advance, that point of the advance, the final sign of Vedanta. But from this point of Vedanta, that is absolutely true, there are teachers, and they can teach you. And they have changed their thoughts into the middle and achieved the truth of Vedanta. And they can communicate that, if they know the Method of Vedanta, that will contribute tomorrow. And it has succeeded in directing their mind inward, recognizing the truth and learning the methodology of Vedanta about which we will speak tomorrow. And from the standpoint from which we all live, there are Gyanis, so in the plural. And there are people in ignorance who need this teacher. There is a benefit in the study of Vedanta. Mithubias says, it eliminates this false concept. What is the cause of the suffering of everyone. There is nothing more sublime, nothing more liberating, nothing more fundamental, nothing more profound. Than this idea, that I am infinite, eternal, during the immortal bliss. That is the happiness, that I am the freedom, peace, after which I search, that I am that. What I have sought my whole life, that I am. What could be a more wonderful teaching or be a wonderful religion? So, these are the four main ideas: the Self is the Witness. Ignorance takes the Self as not-Self. There is a difference between doing something and knowing something. And there is a difference between the absolute standpoint of the face and the relative standpoint of the face. As long as we take ourselves as this body, mind, intellect, feeling, then I am in the relative standpoint of the face. And that is the feeling that I have the feeling that I have the feeling that I exist, that I am engaged. In the relative standpoint, I am in the relative standpoint. From this standpoint, we must distinguish between the Witness, what appears and disappears, and what does not change. I thought that something easier than what we are doing now would be to see a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita and look at some of these verses. I wish you, if you have the chance and the motivation, then you can look for yourself at a Gita and the translation. Is there a translation? Yes, that is a translation. Is the translation in German or English? It is in German. I am sorry, it is in German. When should I speak to you? I do not know. It is in German. Good. What I had thought was that no one in this video would come with me. But I thought that I would travel through the verses. Then everyone can play a little. A little, a little noise. If you do not know Sanskrit, then you can simply listen. I should make the best transliteration. The transliteration is not there, in the Gita that we had here, and now it is down again. But as with the resultation, will we repeat it again? We can do it once or twice, we will see how it goes. And you can then recite after me. It begins with Arjuna. It begins with Sankaracharya. It begins with Sankaracharya. It begins with Sankaracharya. And there is the discussion whether the Gita has 701 or 2 verses. We begin with the 2nd verse. I will begin with the 2nd verse, because I align myself with Sankaracharya. ... ... I will again begin with the 2nd verse... ... Okay, let me translate in English and you can look in the German. Let me translate into English and we can look at the German. Idam Shirdi Ram, this body, Idam Shirdi Ram. Idam Shirdi Ram is this body. Kante ja, Kante ja is Arjuna. Oh Arjuna, this body, Idam Shirdi Ram. Kshetra mit Yavideite is said to be like a kshetra. A kshetra is a field. The field, this body is like a field. It is said to be a field. Is that clear in the German? Yes. So it begins with Idam Shirdi Ram. This body is said to be like a field. Idam Shirdi Ram, Kante ja, Kshetra mit Yavideite. It is said to be like a field. It is said that Idam Shirdi Ram, this body, is like this field. It is called a field. Etatio viti. He who knows it. Etatio viti, he who knows that. He who knows the field. He who knows this body, Shirdi Ram, which is the field, that which is the knower of the field, he who knows the field, he who is the knower of the field. Is called Shetra Gnometi abit, is called Idam Shirdi Ram. Idam Shirdi Ram, Kshetra mit Yavideite. Shetra Gnometi, Tadvideha. And he who knows it is called the Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. He who knows that, he is called the Kschedra Gnya, he who is the knower of the field. So there are two things, the knower of the field and the field. The knower of the field and the field. The field is the body, at least in the second verse here. The field is the body. And he who knows, there is a knower of the body. This body is known to me. He who knows or knows, there is a knower of the body, he is known to me. And he who knows it is called the Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. He who knows, he is called the Kschedra Gnya, the knower of the field. When I started this class, I said the concept of the self is that you are the witness. When I When this teaching began, it is the field, you are the witness. And that the body, the senses, the mind and the ego was all the witnessed. And the body, the mind, the ego, all that is what is witnessed. So here in the Bhagavad Gita it's just starting off, it says the body is the, is what's known. In the Bhagavad Gita it begins with the fact that the body is what is known. And there's a knower of the body, I'm calling that the witness. And there is the knower of the body, I call him the witness. In the Gita it's called Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. Tat vidah, of those who know that. Because we don't know it. We all think that I am the Shetra. We do not know it, we all think that I am the Shetra, because I am the field. Nobody thinks that I'm the Shetra Gnya and there's something different from me which is called the body, which is Shetra. And that, that something different from me exists, which is the body, the Shetra, the field. So if you look at Shankara's commentary there, when it says Tat vidah, it means those who know it, the knowers of Brahman. And if one looks at Shankara's commentary there, then it is spoken about, those who know it are the knowers. To know the truth of Vedanta, they call it the Shetra Gnya and the Shetra. Those who are the knowers of the field call the knower the Shetra Gnya and the body the Shetra, the field. So it begins like that. So Chapter 13 begins. Now the next shloka says, and this is the most amazing part. So okay, yeah, I am the knower of the body. I'm the Shetra Gnya. So Chapter 13 begins. So okay, yeah, I am the knower of the body. I'm the Shetra Gnya. The body is definitely something known to me. So, and those people who know about this, they call the knower of this thing, the Shetra Gnya, fine. So, that's the witness. So far so good, so those who know the body as something to be known, as the field, so far so good, they are called the Shetra Gnya, the knowers of the field. So the next shloka goes like this. Shetra Gnya, Shepi, Mamvedi. Shetra Gnya, Shepi, Mamvedi. Servakshetre Shubarata. Servakshetre Shubarata. Shetra Shetra Gnya, Gnya Nam. Shetra Shetra Gnya, Gnya Nam. Etat Gnya Nam, Tamma Ma. Etat Gnya Nam, Tamma Ma. Shetra Gnya, Shepi, Mamvedi. Know me, the Supreme Lord. You should know that that Shetra Gnya in you, that Shetra Gnya, know that to be me. Me, Mamvedi. Know me, Krishna. That's who Krishna really is. Krishna is not a guy, a blue guy with a peacock feather and a flute in his hand. Krishna is not this blue guy with the brown feather in his hair and the flute in his hands. He's saying very clearly here, I am the truth of who I am. I am the Shetra Gnya. I am the Shetra Gnya. This Shetra Gnya in you, Arjuna, in you, in every one of us. This Shetra Gnya in all of us is me, the Supreme Being. This Shetra Gnya in all of us is me, the Supreme Being. The Supreme Self, Paramatma. The Supreme Self, Paramatma. Servik Shetra Shoo. In all of the Shetras, in all of the bodies, know that that witness that's abiding in you is me. That's me, that's God. God is not somewhere in Vaikuntha. You don't have to go there. Because he's right there, ever present as the witnessing consciousness in all of us. Shetra Gnya, Chp, Mahamvidhi. Very clear, you can't miss this teaching here. Know me to be the Shetra Gnya in all the Shetras. Know me as the Shetra Gnya in all the Shetras. Know me as this one, in yourself, who is in all. For that you do not have to go to Vaikuntha. Know me as this Shetra Gnya in all. That is the only, the sole teaching in the Gita, in the Upanishads. The same God, the same Shetra Gnya, the Shetra Gnya in you is the God who resides in all beings. The same God who is in you, the witnessing consciousness is the witnessing consciousness in all beings. It is the same. The Shetra Gnya in you is the same Shetra Gnya in all Meadows. The Witness is the same in all of them. Krishna in the Gita, later on, says, Ahamadma Guddhikesa Serva Bhutte Shoo. Ahamadma Guddhikesa, Serva Bhutte Shoo. I am the self in all beings. I am the self in all meadows. There's just one self in all beings. There is only one self in all meadows. The witness that's the witness of my mind is the same witness that's the witness of your mind. The witness of my mind is the same, the witnessing of my mind. The witnessing of my mind is the same Witness of your mind. There's only one witness in all the beings. There is only one Witness in all Witnesses in all meadows. If you can take your stand in the witness in all the beings, if you can take your stand in all the beings, if you can take your stand in all the beings, if you can take your stand in the witness, then you will see the truth of the Gita that says, he who sees himself in all beings, he sees that witnessing consciousness pervading the whole universe. Serva Bhutte Shoo in all meadows, not just human beings, but in all beings including rocks and mountains, those are beings too. This Knowing in you is the all-pervading consciousness that exists everywhere. This Witness is the whole universe, the whole universe, that exists everywhere. That is the meaning of Vishnu. This consciousness, that permeates everything, that is all-pervading. Serva Viapi Vishnu. That is the Vishnu, that is the Vishnu, the Vishnu, that which has entered into all. If you can see that you are the Knower of the whole Dream, then you can see that the whole truth of the whole Dream is you. That your consciousness is the truth of the Dream. That this Knower, that the Dream of the Field is, the Field. If you eliminate the Knower, the Knower of the Field, then you can no longer stand on the Field, the Field, the Field, if you eliminate the Knower, the Knower of the Field, the Knower of the Dream, the Dream cannot be for you. The truth of the Dream is Vishnu. Vishnu is the Knower. Krishna is Vishnu. Krishna is the Knower in all Fields. That is the unique teaching of the Vedantist. The Serve from Field-Knower, which is also around the Field-Knower persona. The point is, Etat Gyanamma Tamma Ma. That is what I call the Knower. There is no other Knower, but the Field. And who is the Field-Knower? The bone, that I am the Field-Knower, I am the Witty-Consciousness, I am Vishnu, I am the Supreme God, I am the one with God, and I am not the Field, I am not this punctual small body, that is born, to get everything, to die and to die. That is the knowledge that is taught in the Bhagavad Gita. That is what the Supreme Lord calls Knowledge. The task, to understand the two Slokas, the second and third Slokas, is, with Shankara's commentary to donate and I am sure that it is distorted in Germany. Is it available in Germany? I believe I wrote it in English, but I believe I am very hurt. The English is available, but of course there are also some drafts in German, so as one can Google and one gets something. But I believe the official version is still the English, I am not sure. I am very sorry. In English? The best in English is, he is lesser, or? He is a German, is he not? He is a German? That is really the best. But it would be better if someone makes a good translation in German, so that one can read it in your own mother tongue. If someone in Germany had made a translation, then one could read it in German. Perhaps there is someone here who would like to do that. Shambhavi can do it someday, there is a project for you. There is a project for us all, perhaps someone feels judged. What I want to tell you is Shankaracharya, the understanding of these two asses. That is the knowledge of what the Gschied tears and what the Gschied rains, is the Knower of the Field. So, the next renunciation is Rishi Bier Bohudah and that is the renunciation of the Rock. That is the renunciation of the Rock. So, the next renunciation is Rishi Bier Bohudah Gietam. What is the next renunciation? That is the renunciation of the Rock. Oh, okay. I will skip the renunciation. He says, you can read it in German, but I will contribute the renunciation. Now, that he describes what the Schedra is, what the Schedra is, the body is the Schedra. But now I will tell you more that it is not only the body, but the Schedra. Can you read it in German? I said it in the Warniogonis. What this field is, how it is constituted, what changes it undergoes and where it comes from, who the Knower is and what his powers are, hear all this briefly from me. And can one read it from German and English? I hope that it is so. What is the field, what it is in itself, what it is so, what it is so, what it is so, what it is so, what it is so, what it is so, what the changes in the field are. And the Sursche, where it is reached from the Warniogonis, who the Knower is and what the powers of the Knower are, that you here, I say it briefly. I have said this with Samasseh

... ... ich werde wieder mit dem 2. Versen beginnen... ... Okay, let me translate in English and you can look in the German. Idam Shirdi Ram, this body, Idam Shirdi Ram. Idam Shirdi Ram ist dieser Kachbar. Kante ja, Kante ja ist Arjuna. Oh Arjuna, this body, Idam Shirdi Ram. Kshetra mit Yavideite ist said to be like a kshetra. Etatio viti. He who knows it. Etatio viti, jener der das kennt. He who knows the field. He who knows this body, Shirdi Ram, which is the field, that which is the knower of the field, derjenige der das Feld kennt, der der Kenner des Feldes ist. Is called Shetra Gnometi abit, is called Idam Shirdi Ram. Idam Shirdi Ram, Kshetra mit Yavideite. Shetra Gnometi, Tadvideha. And he who knows it is called the Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. So there are two things, the knower of the field and the field. Der Kenner des Feldes und das Feld. The field is the body, at least in the second verse here. The field is the body. And that who knows, there is a knower of the body. This body is known to me. And he who knows it is called the Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. When I started this class, I said the concept of the self is that you are the witness. And that the body, the senses, the mind and the ego was all the witnessed. Und das Körper, Geist, die Ego, all das ist, was bezeugt ist. So here in the Bhagavad Gita it's just starting off, it says the body is the, is what's known. And there's a knower of the body, I'm calling that the witness. In the Gita it's called Shetra Gnya, the knower of the field. Because we don't know it. We all think that I am the Shetra. Nobody thinks that I'm the Shetra Gnya and there's something different from me which is called the body, which is Shetra. So if you look at Shankara's commentary there, when it says Tat vidah, it means those who know it, the knowers of Brahman. To know the truth of Vedanta, they call it the Shetra Gnya and the Shetra. So it begins like that. So beginnt das 13. Kapitel. Now the next shloka says, and this is the most amazing part. So okay, yeah, I am the knower of the body. I'm the Shetra Gnya. So beginnt das 13. Kapitel. So okay, yeah, I am the knower of the body. I'm the Shetra Gnya. The body is definitely something known to me. So, and those people who know about this, they call the knower of this thing, the Shetra Gnya, fine. So, that's the witness. Ich bin der Shetra Gnya. Dieser Shetra Gnya in you, Arjuna, in you, in every one of us. Dieser Shetra Gnya in all of us is me, the Supreme Being. Dieser Shetra Gnya in all of us ist bin ich das höchste Wesen. Der Supreme Self, Paramatma. Das höchste Selbst, Paramatma. Krishna in the Gita, later on, says, Ahamadma Guddhikesa Serva Bhutte Shoo. Ahamadma Guddhikesa, Serva Bhutte Shoo. I am the self in all beings. Ich bin das selbst in allen Wiesen. There's just one self in all beings. The witness that's the witness of my mind is the same witness that's the witness of your mind. There's only one witness in all the beings. Serva Bhutte Shoo in allen Wiesen, not just human beings, but in all beings including rocks and mountains, those are beings too. Dieser Wissen in you is the all-pervading consciousness that exists everywhere. In Englisch?
