The pursuit of peace is at least as sacred and necessary as resistance against injustice, and the community is called to preserve peace in Gaza through concrete aid and solidarity.

He showed all of humanity that the pursuit of peace is at least as sacred and necessary as resistance against injustice.

The text is a DITIB Friday sermon from 17.10.2025, which begins with Arabic Quranic and Hadith quotations and carries the title 'With Heart and Hand for Gaza'. It recounts the episode of Hudaybiya, in which the Prophet Muhammad (s) concluded a peace treaty with the Meccans, and derives from this that the pursuit of peace is at least as sacred as resistance against injustice. The text refers to the current situation in Gaza, where, according to the text, more than 70,000 people have been killed in two years, and announces a declared ceasefire. It calls on the international community, the parties to the ceasefire, and all people of good conscience to preserve peace. DITIB has launched an aid campaign together with the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, in which the faithful are to participate. The text concludes with a prayer for peace, patience, and deliverance for the suffering worldwide.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: So fear Allah as much as you are able, and listen and obey, and spend in charity for your own good. (…) And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The believer to the believer is like a building, each part strengthening the other. With Heart and Hand for Gaza! (17.10.2025) In the sixth year of the Hijra, our beloved Prophet (s) saw a dream in Medina. In this dream, he shaved his head and ended the Ihram.[1] The Prophet (s) interpreted this dream as a divine sign that he should visit the Kaaba, and he set out on his way to the holy lands together with his companions. After a difficult, days-long journey, the Muslims reached the region of Hudaybiya near Mecca. Their sole goal was to visit the Kaaba. However, the polytheists of Mecca did not allow them to do so. Consequently, negotiations took place in Hudaybiya with the Meccan representatives – and there an agreement was concluded that was to change the course of history. According to the first clause of this agreement, both sides were to refrain from hostilities against each other for ten years, thereby ensuring peace and security. Although the remaining provisions appeared to be to the disadvantage of the Muslims, the Prophet of Mercy (s) accepted this agreement. For he knew very well: Where there is no peace, there is no rest, no security. Where there is no peace, there are fear, worry, pain, and tears. Where there is no peace, there is death. And where there is death, there are mothers who weep, fathers who mourn, and children who become orphans. The Prophet (s) knew the value of peace. With this peace agreement, he wanted to protect people from the fear, suffering, and tears that war brings. He showed all of humanity that the striving for peace is at least as holy and necessary as the resistance against injustice. Dear brothers and sisters, esteemed believers! In the last two years, more than seventy thousand people have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip. A large part of these victims are children and women. Of course, it is not right to reduce a human life to mere numbers. But the extent of suffering in Gaza is immense and deeply shakes every person of conscience. Every person killed means not only the loss of an individual, but is the pain of a family, the wound of a society, and the loss of all of humanity. For according to our faith, a single life is as valuable as all of humanity. In the Noble Quran it is stated regarding this: “...Whoever kills a soul unless for a legal reason [for killing or corruption on earth] it is as if he had killed all of humanity. And whoever saves one [soul], it is as if he had saved all of humanity.”[2] Dear brothers and sisters! Thank God, a ceasefire has been declared in Gaza and peace has been established. Thanks to this peace, it is now possible to provide humanitarian aid, to heal wounds, and to plant new hope. Our brothers and sisters, who have suffered under blockade and distress for years, now have the opportunity to draw new courage for life again. In this significant time, I call upon the international community, the parties to the ceasefire, and all people of good conscience to preserve and protect the peace. As DITIB, we have launched the aid campaign “With Heart and Hand for Gaza” together with the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation to contribute to alleviating the human suffering in Gaza. I also invite you to participate in this blessed solidarity campaign. Dear brothers and sisters, now is the time to give life. Now is the time to be hope – for the approximately two million people living in Gaza. Now is the time to take on our responsibility, to the extent of our strength. Now is the time to give not for ourselves, but for others, thus protecting ourselves from egoism.[3] Now is the time, as the Prophet (s) said, to support one another – like the bricks of a solid building.[4] O Allah! Grant peace and security to all people who long for peace! Make the countries that have been plagued by war for years into places of peace, O Allah! Grant all our brothers and sisters who suffer from distress and oppression around the world patience, steadfastness, and deliverance! Make us instruments for building a world in which peace, mercy, brotherhood, and justice prevail! (Amin) DITIB Sermon Commission [1] Fath, 48/27. [2] Mâide, 5/32. [3] Tağabun, 64/16.
