The honoring and study of the life and struggle of the blessed fathers Abun Petros and Abun Gorgorios are of central importance in directing the youth into the service of the Church and the fatherland and in strengthening national identity.

The commemorative ceremony for the Righteous Martyrs, the Venerable Abune Petros and the Venerable Abune Gorghorios, was held on the 22nd of Hamle, 2018 E.C., starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Dimetros Hall on the third floor of the society’s building.
At the ceremony, the following attendees were present: His Excellency Qes Dr. Mulugeta Sium, a member of the Executive Board of the Society of Saints; journalist Tibebe Belete, a staff member of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation; Ambassador Alem Sehay Meseret; artist Tesfaye Sima; Dr. Getnet Feleke; artist Birhanu Shebru; Dr. Izra Ngatu, Executive Director of the Izra Sotuel Center for Study and Research; Dr. Tarefe Warku, Executive Member of the Friends of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies and Research at Addis Ababa University; the invited guest participants; the society’s executives; and its regular servants and members.
Dr. Mastewal Baye, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Society of Saints, explained that the purpose of the gathering was to honor the deep and steadfast love that the Righteous Martyrs, the Venerable Abune Petros and the Venerable Abune Gorghorios, had for the country and the Church. He stated that the event was organized to remind the younger generation of the Venerable Fathers’ life struggles, their religious strength, and their patriotism, so that they might learn from their ancestors and serve through scholarship.
The ceremony began with prayer, and after the chanting of hymns, a Gospel lesson was delivered by Deacon Tabor Haileyesus Fenta.
His Excellency Qes Dr. Mulugeta Sium, a member of the Executive Board of the Society of Saints, presented an academic paper on the Venerable Abune Gorghorios. He stated that His Venerability’s contribution in guiding the younger generation toward service in the Church through the interpretation of their heritage was significant.
Dr. Tarefe Warku, Executive Member of the Friends of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies and Research at Addis Ababa University, presented the history and struggle of the Righteous Martyr, the Venerable Abune Petros, who, along with others who were lights to the Church and the country, dedicated their lives to truth and freedom.
During the ceremony, numerous ideas were raised and discussed. On his part, journalist Tibebe Belete, a staff member of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, stated: “Since Ethiopianism originated from these great ancestors, we must ensure that the younger generation learns from and remembers the history of their ancestors.”

በመርሐ ግብሩ የማኅበረ ቅዱሳን የሥራ አመራር አባል ሊቀ ትጉሃን ቀሲስ ዶ/ር ሙሉጌታ ሥዩም፣ የአሐዱ ሬዲዮና ቴሌቪዥን ሥራ አስኪያጅ ጋዜጠኛ ጥበቡ በለጠ፣ አምባሳደር ዓለም ፀሐይ መሠረት፣ አርቲስት ተስፋዬ ሲማ፣ ዶ/ር ጌትነት ፈለቀ፣ አርቲስት ብርሃኑ ሽብሩ፣ የእዝራ ሱቱኤል የጥናትና ምርምር ማእከል ሥራ አስፈጻሚ ዲ/ን እዝራ ንጋቱ፣ በአዲስ አበባ ዩንቨርስቲ የኢትዮጵያ ጥናትና ምርምር ተቋም ወዳጆች ማኅበር ሥራ አስፈጻሚ አባል ዲ/ን ተረፈ ወርቁ፣ ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው ተጋባዥ እንግዶች፣ የማኅበሩ ሥራ አስፈጻሚዎች፣ መደበኛ አገልጋዮችና አባላት ተገኝተዋል።
የጉባኤው ዓላማ የሰማዕተ ጽድቅ ብፁዕ አቡነ ጴጥሮስ እና የብፁዕ አቡነ ጎርጎርዮስ ለሀገርና ለቤተ ክርስቲያን ጽኑና ጥልቅ ፍቅር የነበራቸው በመሆኑ የብፁዓን አበው የሕይወት ተጋድሎ፣ የሃይማኖት ጥንካሬና የሀገር ወዳድነትን በመዘከር ትውልዱ ከአባቶች እንዲማርና በጽናት እንዲያገለግል የተዘጋጀ መሆኑን በማኅበረ ቅዱሳን የሕዝብ ግንኙነት ዋና ክፍል ኀላፊ ዲ/ን ማስተዋል ባየ ገልጸዋል።
መርሐ ግብሩ በጸሎት የተጀመረ ሲሆን መዝሙር ቀርቦ ትምህርተ ወንጌል በመልአከ ታቦር ኃይለየሱስ ፈንታሁን ተሰጥቷል።
የማኅበረ ቅዱሳን የሥራ አመራር አባል ሊቀ ትጉሃን ቀሲስ ዶ/ር ሙሉጌታ ሥዩም የብፁዕ አቡነ ጎርጎርዮስን ጥናታዊ ጽሑፍ ያቀረቡ ሲሆን ብፁዕነታቸው ትውልዱን በመቅረፅ ወደ ቤተ ክርስቲያን አገልግሎት ለማሰማራት ያደረጉት አስተዋፅኦ ከፍተኛ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል።
በአዲስ አበባ ዩንቨርስቲ የኢትዮጵያ ጥናትና ምርምር ተቋም ወዳጆች ማኅበር ሥራ አስፈጻሚ አባል ዲ/ን ተረፈ ወርቁ የቤተ ክርስቲያንና የሀገር መብራት የሆኑትን፣ ለእውነትና ለነፃነት ሕይወታቸውን አሳልፈው የሰጡትን የሰማዕተ ጽድቅ የብፁዕ አቡነ ጴጥሮስን ታሪክና ተጋድሎ አቅርበዋል።
በመርሐ ግብሩ በርካታ ሐሳቦች ተነሥተው ውይይት የተደረገ ሲሆን የአሐዱ ሬዲዮና ቴሌቪዥን ሥራ አስኪያጅ ጋዜጠኛ ጥበቡ በለጠ በበኩላቸው “ኢትዮጵያኒዝም ከእነዚህ ታላላቅ አባቶች የመጣ በመሆኑ ያባቶችን ታሪክ በመዘከር ትውልዱ እንዲያውቀውና እንዲማር ልናደርግ ይገባል” ብለዋል።
