The supplication is the core of worship and the surest way to turn toward Allah, as it acknowledges one's own weakness and places trust in divine mercy, with sincerity and patience being decisive for the acceptance of the petition.
It is not merely a stringing together of worldly wishes, but rather the most beautiful expression of the fact that the servant recognizes his own weakness, need, and helplessness and seeks refuge in Allah's infinite mercy, grace, and omnipotence.
The text is a Friday sermon that describes the supplication (Dua) as a central act of turning toward Allah. It emphasizes that in times of difficulty and sin, a person should recognize his own weakness and seek refuge in divine mercy. The supplication is understood not as a mere list of wishes, but as an expression of humility and trust in the omnipotence of God. It is explained that sincere petitions are either fulfilled in this world, stored up for the Hereafter, or lead to the forgiveness of sins. The text warns against praying with a heedless heart, as such petitions will not be accepted. The believers are encouraged to ask for good for themselves, their families, and all of humanity with patience and perseverance. Finally, two specific supplications from the Quran are recited, which concern this world and the Hereafter as well as forgiveness.
- What, according to this text, is the root of the evil?
-
Illness, death, and transience as the fundamental problem; Sin, personal failure, guilt before God
- Where does the evil reside?

- What helps against it?
-

-
fallen, not able to be made whole by one's own strength
- Where is history heading?
-
the message stands outside of history
- What does the text base its claim on?
-
on the founder or prophet of the tradition; on the holy scripture of its own tradition
- To whom does the text's call for devotion apply?
-
to every human being, regardless of faith
- Where is the text's criticism directed?
-
at one's own community and at oneself

Dear Muslims!
In the course of his life, a human being may be confronted with a variety of difficulties, trials, errors, and sins. It is precisely in such situations that he feels the need to turn to Allah and seek refuge in Him. The safest and most immediate way to turn to Him and seek refuge in Him is the supplication, that is, the Dua. The supplication means that the transient human being knocks on the door of the Eternal, the Exalted Allah. It is not merely a string of worldly wishes, but rather the most beautiful expression of the fact that the servant recognizes his own weakness, need, and helplessness and seeks refuge in Allah's infinite mercy, grace, and omnipotence. Our exalted Lord says in the Quran: "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the invoker when he invokes Me. So let them respond to Me and [and] believe in Me that they may be guided." 1
Dear Believers!
Our Prophet (s) has said that the supplication is the core of worship, 2 and has announced to us that no sincerely made supplication remains unanswered. Accordingly, a supplication is either already fulfilled in this world, stored up as a great reward for the Hereafter, or serves as the occasion for Allah to forgive the sins of His servant. 3 A supplication that is not spoken with a sincere heart and full conviction, on the other hand, finds no acceptance. Our Prophet (s) said on this matter: "Ask Allah with firm belief that your Dua will be accepted. Know that Allah does not accept a supplication that is spoken with a careless and indifferent heart." 4
So let us, with a sincere heart and full confidence, ask for good for ourselves, our families, our parents, the Umma of the Prophet Muhammad, and all of humanity. No matter what situation we find ourselves in, let us not fail to turn to our Lord with our requests and our pleading. With patience and perseverance, let us knock on His exalted door day and night.
Dear Believers!
To conclude my sermon, I would like to recite two supplications from the Quran:
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Hellfire." 5
"Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day when the accounting will take place." 6
Amin.

Verehrte Muslime!
