True trust in God consists in using all the means that Allah has prescribed and entrusting the outcome to God, whereby suffering is not a punishment but a trial that becomes bearable through firm faith.

Trust in God means precisely this, that one gathers together to the best of one's ability the means that Allah has prescribed for the achievement of a matter and then submits oneself to the decrees with the words, O God, bring this to a good end.

The text deals with the concept of trust in God (Tawakkul) in Islam through statements of the Promised Messiah Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. It defines trust in God as the gathering together of all the means that Allah has prescribed and the subsequent entrusting of the outcome to God. The text makes clear that true trust in God is not demonstrated through miracles such as the healing of illness, but through inner purity, obedience, and contentment with Allah. It is explained that suffering and difficulties do not represent a punishment for a believer, but a trial that becomes bearable through trust in Allah. Death is presented as a natural transition to eternal life with God. The text warns against the secularisation of faith and the attachment to worldly goods, which weaken faith in Allah. As a counterexample, a Pirsader is mentioned who chases after an official over land disputes, which is regarded as a sign of lacking trust in God.

In the past Friday sermons, within the framework of describing the life of the Holy Prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, I have elucidated the highest rank of trust in God. Today I will speak about how his true servant has explained this in the present time in accordance with the example of the Prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. What teaching did he convey in this regard and how did he himself act accordingly? The Promised Messiah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, says that trust in God means precisely this: that one gathers the means which Allah has prescribed for achieving a matter to the best of one’s ability and then surrenders oneself to the decree with the words, “O God, You bring this to a good end.” There are hundreds of plagues and thousands of misfortunes that can destroy and overturn these means. We guard ourselves against their encroachment and lead ourselves to true success and to the goal. Man uses means, but there are many misfortunes, and situations may arise in which precisely the means upon which one relies are destroyed. Therefore, one should ask Allah for help so that Allah protects us from their negative effects. This is the state through which a believer can become one who attains the additional bestowals of Allah. The Promised Messiah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, says that it is not everyone’s affair to be content with Allah. Rather, this is that exalted rank of trust in God, complete detachment, that is, complete concentration upon God, as well as contentment and submission, upon reaching which the human being harbors no complaint or grievance whatsoever against his Lord. And that Allah is content with His servant depends upon the perfect truthfulness and fidelity, the excellent purity and cleanliness, and the absolute obedience of the servant. From this it becomes evident that the Companions of the Holy Prophet had traversed all stages of the recognition of God and of the spiritual path. The Companions attained that rank of relationship with Allah and of trust in God which has been made an example for us. The followers of Hazrat Isa al-Hasr claim that he healed the sick. Yet the Promised Messiah said, has this perhaps increased the trust in God among the disciples? An increase in trust in God occurs only through the special grace of Allah, provided that full attention is directed towards Him. He says that if one seeks such an example of trust in God among the disciples, one will by no means find it. Popularly, one achieves nothing through the mere removal of diseases. It is also written about the Sufis that they can perform this miracle, that is, grant healings. He says that it does not bear witness to intelligence or wisdom to rejoice over this, and one who strives for spiritual perfection cannot rejoice over such things. Therefore, I prefer for you that you purify your hearts and enter into such a relationship with God that every generous Lord is content with you and you are content with Him. Then He will bestow such a blessing upon your body and your words that even those who heal diseases will look upon it with full astonishment and shame. That is to say, those who heal the sick and remove suffering, if your own relationship with Allah is of such quality, then those will themselves be ashamed due to your state. Thus, if a believer trusts in Allah and builds a relationship with Allah, he can become capable of displaying miracles. On another occasion, he directed attention to trust in God and surrender to God and said, I also think that there is no salve for the wound of misfortune that is so soothing and alleviating as trust in Allah. One who trusts in Allah finds inner comfort and peace even in the hardest difficulties and distresses. He feels neither bitterness nor torment in his heart. The The ultimate end of such a misfortune may be, if it is an unavoidable decree, that death occurs. A believer also experiences difficulties, but a believer does not let them overwhelm him if his faith in God is firm. He says, what is the most that can happen? Death will occur, but he also says, what does that matter? The world is ultimately not a place where one can remain forever. Ultimately, for everyone, the day and the time comes when he must leave this world. So what is so terrible about death overtaking him? For a believer, this death even brings more relief and becomes a means to be united with the beloved Friend. If the believer is sincere and has firm faith in Allah, then he tells himself, well, now I will meet God. For he possesses complete faith in Allah, trusts in His power, and knows that the next life means eternal well-being for him. Essentially, a mere affliction, whether it is an illness or another kind of suffering, cannot be the cause of a punishment. Rather, an affliction only becomes a painful punishment when there is a lack of faith and trust in Allah. If a believer encounters difficulties, this is not a punishment for him. A punishment exists only when there is neither faith nor trust in Allah. For a person who has no faith, however, this means a severe torment. And whoever thinks that death should never occur harbors a foolish thought, for Allah has declared this world to be transient. Such a person must prepare himself for the fact that beyond, an extremely painful shell awaits him. This is thus also the general answer for those who ask by what one can recognize whether a difficulty or a suffering is a punishment or a test from Allah. The Promised Messiah As-Salaam used to emphasize to his followers, according to the occasion, the trust in God. Thus, it is reported in a tradition that he told Master Nazir Hussein that the Promised Messiah As-Salaam said, do not think that Allah is weak; He possesses enormous powers. If you entrust a matter to Him, He will certainly help you, as He Himself speaks. And for the one who trusts in Allah, He is sufficient. In describing the characteristics of blessed people, the Promised Messiah As-Salaam says, one stage is the stage of trust in God, in which they are anchored with utmost firmness. And no one other than them can be allotted that pure source. Rather, it is made pleasant and fitting only for them. The light of insight gives them such support that they often, even when suffering from manifold lack and being completely far from common means, still lead their lives with such freshness and inner expansiveness and spend their days so joyfully as if they possessed thousands of treasures. Even if the comforts to which one is accustomed are not present, for those who trust in Allah, their life is full of joy, as if they had thousands of treasures with them. On their faces, the freshness of wealth is reflected, and they radiate the steadfastness of the wealthy. Even in times of scarcity, they trust in their generous Lord with the greatest ease and complete certainty. If there is a relationship with Allah, they also trust in Allah in times of deprivation and suffering and do not turn away from Him. It does not occur to them to ponder what this might or might not be, whether it is a visitation, a test, or a punishment. If complete trust in Allah is present and the rights of Allah are fulfilled, then Allah undoubtedly blesses His servants. He says, those who trust in God and turn to God never perish; whoever who relies exclusively on his own effort, what can he achieve from his humiliation? Since the creation of the world, it has been the constant practice of Allah that those who abandon the world attain Him, while those who pursue it are deprived of Him. If those who have no connection to God, through cunning and deceit, also attain something for a few days, this is nevertheless not substantial. Most of them employ only cunning, deception, and fraud in acquiring the world, for ultimately they must experience a bitter failure. The virtuous people in Islam were always those who, in comparison to religion, did not care about the world in the slightest. He mentions that in [the times] lived Qutbuddin and Muinuddin as friends of God. These people worshipped God in secret, but God made their honor manifest. Then he describes an incident. We saw in Batala a lawyer, who, because of his land lawsuits, was completely covered in dust, running after a Deputy Commissioner. He ran after the official, a state representative, because of his court proceedings or to acquire property. The Promised Messiah of the Last Times said, I wonder, if this person possessed true piety. Now they send lawyers and claim to be the descendants of spiritual leaders. He said, if he, if he possessed true piety and trusted in God, why would he involve himself in such defilement, that is, dirty and abhorrent matters. He continues, all sins that have arisen in the world have exactly this cause: the degree of conviction that the human being has regarding the pleasures of honor as well as the property of the world. He does not have this degree of conviction regarding the hereafter. Precisely for this reason, the human being commits sins, and just as one can trust in a chest filled with precious jewels and pure gold in one's possession, so one cannot trust in God. And just as people fear earthly governments and rulers, flatter them, and grovel, spending their lives thus, so they do not fear [God] alone. What is the cause of this? The cause is precisely that the means and ways of the world, that is, the external and material things available to the human being, are so real and certain in their eyes that religious convictions are worthless in comparison. Worldly means are visible, while convictions, the belief in Allah, are not present. If therefore there is no trust in Allah and not even the notion exists to prioritize the faith of the world, which we repeat in each of our promises and will now also repeat on the Istama of the Khuddam-e-Nemdia, then this weakness in conviction in faith will deprive such a person, even of the blessing of the next life. They have regarded this world as everything and tried to attain it. Some obtained it, others left this world in the attempt to get it and failed. Or they obtained it and afterwards it was lost, whereupon they spent a life in worldly torment. They preserved neither their religion nor the world. In this regard, a poet said, neither did I find God nor did I attain union with the idol. How much he was concerned and how much pain he felt to bring people to Allah and to move them to care for the hereafter, and how he used to pray for this, he describes in which he turns to Allah. You, my soul, practices with the greatest trust in you, as a bird returns to its nest. Thus I long for a sign of your power, yet not for myself nor for my honor, but so that people may recognize you. So that people may recognize you, tread your pure paths, and not deviate from guidance by accusing the one you have sent of lying. I bear witness that You have sent me and manifested great signs for my support. Allah Himself has given the Promised Messiah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the name Mutluvuckel. Accordingly, he states that as a sign for the descent of the Messiah, it is written that he will place his hands on the wings of two angels. This is an indication that his right and left hand, which are the means for attaining rational knowledge and inner light, will be supported by the assistance of heavenly delegates, by which angels are meant, to whom the task is entrusted. Rational knowledge, inner light, and the matter of religious insight will be revealed through this means with the help of the angels. This is the meaning of placing the hands on the two angels. He will rely on support and will not receive his hidden divine knowledge from schools, books, and scholars, but from God. Thus, he will receive knowledge that is taught exclusively by Allah. God Himself will also be the provider and sustainer of his life’s necessities, just as He said and named Rahine Ahmadiyya as an example, stating that regarding my person, this construction was published ten years ago. That is, You are before our eyes. We have named you Muthafabil and have taught you knowledge on our part. This is proven by many Hadiths and the Quran, that the person who develops complete turning away and perfect trust in God makes the angels their servants, and each angel serves according to his respective rank. One day, the Promised Messiah al-Asr was sitting in a gathering, and the topic of trust in God came up. Upon which he said, I notice a peculiar state in my heart, just as in oppressive heat, when the heat reaches its peak, people hope with confidence that it will now rain. So I have an unshakable trust in the grace of Allah that my small chest will now be filled when I see it empty. That is, when I find that I am not a possessor of wealth and there is nothing, and exactly so it happens. He swore by Allah and said, when my money bag, that is, my pocket or my pouch, is empty, I experience such bliss and joy in my trust in Allah that I cannot express this state in words. When I possess nothing, my trust in Allah increases even further, and this state is far more comforting and peace-bringing than if the money bag were filled or my pockets were full. Hassan Mithabashir Ahmad Sahib comments on this statement with the words, the pocket of those who live in voluntary poverty remains mostly empty anyway. That is, those who walk this path do not hope for wealth. Their treasures and pockets remain usually empty, as they distribute everything among people. However, consider the sublimity of the trust in God of the Promised Messiah, just as a wise farmer, at his often-tested well, has the certainty that its underground sources will open entirely by themselves when the existing water runs low, and the well fills again with water when one digs a well and constantly draws water; sometimes it dries out, but gradually it fills again with water. Likewise, the heart of the Promised Messiah was filled with certainty. As soon as one’s pocket is empty, like the invisible hand of the heavens, it will fill again, and the task that God has entrusted to me will encounter no obstacles. This is exactly that rank of divine help, which Allah already announced to the Promised Messiah right from the beginning, alay salahu bi qafin abduhu. Is God not enough as his servant? The truth is, the divine revelations hovered from beginning to end like a cloud of mercy over the Promised Messiah al-Azalat us-Salam. In his biography, there is an account concerning trust in God, regarding the delay in the printing of Brahine Ahmadiyya. The Messiah al-Azalat us-Slam wrote in a letter to Haji Muhammad Wali Sahib, a respected official in the state of Kapur Talawa, that the previous letter from the Revered Sir contained so much heat and bitterness. He had, namely, written a letter when the publication of Brahine Ahmadiyya was delayed, after he had already paid money for the printing. However, the book did not reach him. The Messiah al-Azalat us-Slam referred to this and wrote that their last letter was so full of heat and bitterness, and contained such harsh and inappropriate words, that they obviously exuded the scent that the one who harbors suspicion has reached the highest degree of corruption and evil. They had written the letter in great anger, and this anger had reached its peak. This could be inferred from their letter. He wrote that had there not been the relationship of a commercial transaction regarding the book, one would never have expected such words to flow from your pen. They had paid, which is why they wrote such words, as they could not bear why the matter was delayed. From this, it becomes clear that such an inauspicious relationship has agitated the temperament of a venerable man like them, that is, has disturbed them. And it is not yet foreseeable where this inner restlessness and confusion will lead. How long this will drag on, and the state of this humble one is that all these undertakings are based on trust in no one other than the exalted Being of God, whose name is praised. This work is in progress; the trust lies with Allah, and InshaAllah, if God wills, it will be completed. But there are some obstacles on the path over which I have no control and power, which I cannot remove. Yet such great impatience as they are now displaying should have been shown to the world. Be that as it may, he writes that under these circumstances, it is expedient that we cancel the sale and refund the entire price, that is, rescind the purchase contract and return the money sent. If they are making such worries and thinking that I might have embezzled their money, so that their temperament is cooled and calmed. For if they take this back, their temperament may cool and the anger dissipate. For all these agitations, I see no other reason than the separation from a few dirhams, which would in any case have been separated from them at some point, and which has placed their temperament in worry, regret, sorrow, and distress. More precisely, from this consideration, this letter is sent. If the reason for these harsh and inappropriate words is precisely the one I have understood, then please inform me regarding the amount, so that your entire price is refunded and that healing can be carried out, whereby the restraint of the tongue, that is, the checking of the tongue, so that the manner in which they speak is ended. The blessedness of the restraint of the tongue, which is the characteristic of the believers, means that the manner in which they speak is stopped. And the blessedness of the believers consists precisely in that they refrain from such speech. If this is thus resolved by the return of their money and they thereby assume the characteristic of the believers, then I will refund them the money. And he further writes that had they read the treatise Surma Jashmir Adia, they would know that my humility has already announced that if anyone is dissatisfied due to the delay in the printing of Brahine and wishes to reclaim their purchase price, let them give notice, and their price will likewise, just as with all buyers, refunded. I had already announced that I am writing the book Surma Jashmir Adia, and that this may delay the publication of Brahin Ahmadiyya. Therefore, anyone who is Eilikat and wishes to take back their money may do so. He writes that it should be made clear to them that those who harbor suspicion and let dirty words escape from their mouths cannot cause us any harm. On the contrary, they themselves become suspicious and become the embodiment of Hasidat Dunya Valachidat. He has this world and that which he has now lost. This entire undertaking is from the side of God, and He Himself will complete it in the best way. I do not need their money. It is the work of Allah, and I am certain that Allah will complete it. Even if all the children of Adam harbored in their hearts exactly the same thoughts that they currently have, this could not harm us in the slightest. That most glorious Jumeister, who appointed me as His Commissioner in a time of darkness, is with us, and He alone is sufficient. Thus, Tsechir Kub Ali Sahib, the Fanin, reports with reference to this letter. From this letter, his trust in Allah also becomes apparent, and precisely for this reason, the revelation of God’s Mother Wöckel, that is, the Trusting One, named him. In short, this letter is a mirror image of the pure nature of his Holiness. Regarding prayer and trust in God, it is said about his person that all problem solutions occur through prayer, as he stated in our hands. He says that all problem solutions occur through prayer. If we wish to show goodwill to someone, what do we then have in our hands? Only the means of prayer, which God has granted us. Whether for a friend or an enemy. We cannot make black white, nor white black. We do not have a single grain of power, except for what God grants us from His grace. He said that although a person undoubtedl

Was wäre also schlimm daran, wenn ihn der Tod ereilt?
