Humanity urgently needs prophetic mercy and justice in the present time, and Muslims are called to embody these values through their own exemplary conduct in society.
We Muslims, who live as minorities, bear a special responsibility. For people do not look only to books to learn about our Prophet and our religion. They look to the character of Muslims.
The text is a sermon for Mawlid Night, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. It describes the historical situation before the revelation as characterized by oppression, racism, and a lack of compassion. The Prophet is presented as a mercy to all worlds, who led humanity from darkness into light. The text notes that the fundamental problems of humanity, such as wars, poverty, and loneliness, have not changed despite technological progress. Therefore, the message of the revelation is described as urgently needed for the present. Muslims, particularly as minorities, bear the responsibility to embody the prophetic character through their own exemplary lives. Mawlid Night serves to renew the bond with the Prophet and the will to carry on his message.

Dear Muslims!
On the coming Monday, we will, insyaAllah, experience the Mawlid night. This is the night in which our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s) honored the world. He was sent as a mercy to all worlds. By Mawlid, we refer to the birth of our Prophet. His birth not only delighted his family but was the beginning of a new hope for all humanity. Humanity stepped out of darkness into light.
Our Prophet was sent into a time full of oppression. Into a time in which strength triumphed over justice, in which women were not respected, in which children were buried alive, and in which tribalism and racism tore society apart. Humanity did not lack material opportunities. It lacked character, justice, and compassion. The Messenger of Allah (s) guided people to Allah. He reminded them of their values and brought back justice, responsibility, compassion, and brotherhood. The Quran states: “In the Messenger of Allah you have truly a beautiful example for everyone who hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” [1] Thus, the exemplary nature of our Prophet is not limited to his Companions. It is a guidance for all humanity.
Beloved brothers and sisters!
Fourteen centuries have passed since then. Technology has developed, our cities have grown, and access to knowledge has become easier. Yet, the fundamental problems of humanity have not changed. Even today, wars continue, millions of people are driven from their homeland, and hunger and poverty persist. Family bonds are weakening, loneliness is growing, and aggressive rhetoric is unfortunately the norm. Precisely for this reason, humanity today needs the life-giving breath of revelation more than ever. It needs the mercy, justice, and good character for which our Prophet (s) stands.
Dear Muslims!
No new Prophet will come. The greatest gifts given to humanity are the Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger (s). Therefore, let us express our love for our Prophet (s) not only with words but with our lives. A sustainable relationship with our Prophet (s) is directly linked to our relationship with the Quran. The Quran, which he entrusted to us, is simultaneously a mirror of his character and personality. When once a Companion asked the Mother of the Believers (r) about the character of the Prophet (s), she answered: “Do you not read the Quran? The character of the Messenger of Allah was the Quran.” [2]
We Muslims, who live as minorities, bear a special responsibility. Because people do not only look into books to get to know our Prophet and our religion. They look at the character of Muslims. For this reason, it is important to lead an exemplary life, to speak the language of our time, to understand the challenges of our time, and to remain faithfully committed to the principles of prophetic mercy. The Mawlid night is not only a night of joy. It is a night in which we renew our connection with the Messenger of Allah. A night in which we rediscover him. And a night in which we renew our will to carry his message of mercy to all humanity.
May our Creator make us servants who hold fast to the Quran, take the Messenger of Allah as a guide, embody his good character in the language of our time, and convey his message of mercy to people in the best way. May our Mawlid night be blessed. Amen!

Verehrte Muslime!
Amin!
