In the Friday Sermon of 19 December 2025, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba) spoke about the character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). At the outset, His Holiness (aba) highlighted that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the perfect role model for all of humanity. To this effect, he recited the Quranic verse in which God grants the Prophet (saw) this status: "Indeed, you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exemplar for any one who looks forward to Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much." (33:22) Subsequently, His Holiness (aba) reminded that the Quran itself testifies to the exalted moral character of the Holy Prophet (saw). Hadhrat Aisha (ra), when asked about the character traits of the Prophet (saw), pointed out that God Himself has confirmed in the Quran that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) possesses the highest moral virtues: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character." (68:5) The Holy Prophet (saw) fulfilled both the rights of God and the rights of people in a unique manner. Therefore, it is not sufficient to merely follow his teachings formally; rather, one should take him as a role model in his entire conduct of life, since his actions were entirely based on the Quran. His Holiness (aba) further explained that worldly recognition is usually conferred by institutions, governments, or committees — but never by the unanimous consensus of an entire society. In the case of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), this was different: even before his appointment as a Prophet, his own people had unanimously bestowed upon him the titles "the Truthful" and "the Trustworthy," which testified to his extraordinary moral integrity. The Holy Prophet (saw) himself declared that he had been sent to perfect the noble moral values. Since God Himself has designated him as the perfect role model, it is the duty of the believers to follow him in word and deed. His Holiness (aba) announced that in the course of the subsequent sermons, he would present various concrete aspects from the life of the Holy Prophet (saw). His Holiness (aba) explained that the first and most important role model of the Holy Prophet (saw) lies in his perfect fulfilment of the rights of God and of worship. Despite the enormous responsibility of establishing a new divine religion and educating and reforming an entire society, his life remained entirely characterised by the love of God. The Promised Messiah (as) described this process in such a way that the Holy Prophet (saw) shaped raw people into moral people and these in turn into people of God — a tremendous task that, however, never prevented him from the worship of Allah, even when persecution, attacks, and violent confrontations were imposed upon him and the believers by the enemies of Islam. The Holy Prophet (sa) lived up to the worship of God under all circumstances. It follows from this that believers too must hold fast to worship in every situation in life. Whoever complains of unanswered prayers should examine himself as to whether he truly fulfils the rights of God, for true answering of prayer is bound to gratitude, obedience, and sincerity. The Prophet's (saw) personal standard in worship was exceptionally high: he regularly rose after midnight for the voluntary ritual prayer. When asked by Hadhrat Aisha (ra) why he imposed this effort upon himself, although God had already chosen him, he replied: "Should I not be a grateful servant?" When the Holy Prophet (saw) heard the Quran, he was often seized by deep emotion. In particular, the verses about responsibility and testimony moved him to tears, as they reminded him of his duty towards his community of faith (Umma). This admonishes the believers to act in such a way that the testimony of the Holy Prophet (saw) may not be against them. His love for God was manifested even in the most severe illness: Although it would have been permissible to perform the ritual prayer while lying down, he had himself carried to the mosque to perform the prayer in congregation, so that he could fulfill his role as an exemplar. This testifies to the depth of his devotion. At the same time, he was a wise teacher. He prevented religious zealotry and self-overburdening by teaching that worship should be carried out within the limits of one's physical capabilities — neither excessively harsh nor performed hastily and thoughtlessly, as the Holy Prophet (saw) corrected the companion who repeatedly performed his prayer in the mosque in a hurried manner and only upon repeated prompting learned to perform it calmly and with inner concentration. The Holy Prophet (saw) warned against every form of Shirk (associating a partner with God) and explicitly forbade the transformation of graves into places of worship. He taught perfect humility by emphasizing that even he would not enter Paradise through his own deeds, but solely through the grace of God. He strictly advised against wishing for death, since life offers the virtuous person the opportunity to increase in virtue, while it offers the sinner the chance to practice repentance. He likewise admonished to perform prayers carefully and with inner concentration and not to attribute one's own shortcomings to God. The proper use of the senses is also a form of worship: Thus the Holy Prophet (saw) taught that worship consists not only in formal prayer, but also in the responsible use of the faculties bestowed by God. The eyes, ears, and the remaining senses must not become instruments of immorality or slander, but should be consciously employed in the service of good, truth, and moral purity. Thus the senses of man also participate in the worship of God. In his family life, the Holy Prophet (saw) was an exemplar of kindness and patience. This was shown in a particularly human way. Even when one of his wives used sharper words in a moment of emotion, he always met this with gentleness and a smile. At the same time, he maintained a deep gratitude and love throughout his life for his deceased first wife, Hadhrat Khadija (ra); he honored her acquaintances, was moved when recalling shared memories, and was touched when something from her time came before him. His patience was already evident in his childhood. After having lost his parents and his grandfather at an early age, he lived in the house of his uncle Abu Talib, where his aunt did not show him the same care as she showed her own children. When food came into the house and Abu Talib was not at home, it was given to the children, while the young Muhammad (saw) sat patiently in a corner — without complaint, without reproach. When the Prophet (sw) once found a mother at a grave who was weeping and lamenting for her child, he gently reminded her of patience; when she, in that situation, did not recognize the Prophet (saw) and brusquely dismissed him, saying to him what he could possibly know about what it is like to lose a child, he calmly revealed that he himself had lost seven children — and yet he did not complain about his fate. Likewise, he endured personal slights with forbearance: When a Jewish man addressed him disrespectfully in public by his first name only, he did not defend his own honor, but left him be and disarmed the situation through gentleness. In all his actions, the Holy Prophet (saw) embodied the highest morality: in his patience in dealing with people, in his generosity towards those who asked him for alms, to whom he often gave repeatedly without shaming them. At the same time, however, when he sensed that someone was sincere, he coupled this giving with the reminder that true trust should ultimately be placed not in people, but in Allah. His Holiness (aba) explained that these examples represented only a small excerpt of the countless exemplary qualities of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). He prayed that God would enable the community to follow this example and to carry the message of the Holy Prophet (saw) into the world. His Holiness (aba) announced at the close of the Friday sermon the funeral prayers for two deceased members of the community and remembered them: Laiq Ahmad Tahir, missionary, long-serving member of the community in the United Kingdom, Pakistan and the USA, former head of Jamia Ahmadiyya UK, known for deep devotional piety, obedience to the Caliphate and sincere service. Sekha Jalu from Mali, an active, self-sacrificing and missionarily engaged Ahmadi with great love for the Caliphate. For both, His Holiness (aba) prayed for forgiveness and mercy.
