Prophetic action does not consist in possessing finished answers, but in asking questions together, in naming injustice, and in believing in change that becomes possible through the interplay of spirituality and social engagement.
Being prophetic does not mean having finished answers. It means asking the decisive questions, enduring contradictions, naming injustice by name, and at the same time believing in change.
The text advocates for the 2026 Season of Creation in Soest under the motto "being prophetic" and understands prophetic action as asking questions, naming injustice, and jointly shaping the future. It brings together ecumenical and civil society actors, climate protection, education, spirituality, and social responsibility. The Season of Creation is described as an open participatory format that brings together art, music, lectures, worship services, and municipal initiatives. The text emphasizes that being prophetic does not mean having finished answers, but enduring contradictions, naming injustice by name, and believing in change. It situates itself in a time of climate crisis, social polarization, and growing uncertainty. The central message is that responsibility for creation needs people who do not remain silent and communities who intervene. The text closes with an appeal to be prophetic by looking, asking questions, dissenting, and jointly seeking paths of change.

Season of Creation 2026
OG Soest | What does it mean to be prophetic today? To speak up when injustice occurs? To give hope when crises seem overwhelming? Or to bring together people who want to change something together?
The Christians & Churches for Future Soest and the ecumenical working group Church & Climate invite you
from September 5 to October 8, 2026
to a Season of Creation under the motto “being prophetic.”
It is about more than a series of events. It is about an attitude: perceiving what is happening – speaking about it – taking responsibility – and shaping the future together.
“We can talk: about what sustains us. We will talk: about what moves our society. We must talk: because we are shapers of our future.” This is how the Soest preparation team describes the aim of this year’s Season of Creation.
Being prophetic means: asking questions
The focus is on three exhibitions that invite you to look, reflect, and discuss: “propheTisch”, “Augenblick mal”, and “Lass Blumen sprechen”.
They pose questions that lead straight into our time: What do I stand for? Whom can I follow? What is power good for? What is injustice? How do we create peace? What hope sustains me? Where do we want to go? And above all: How can we shape the future together?
Thus, the Season of Creation itself becomes a place of dialogue. Faith and social responsibility belong together. Whoever speaks of responsibility for creation must also speak about justice, peace, power, lifestyles, and the future of our society.
From talking to acting
The program combines exhibitions and worship services with lectures, spiritual offerings, climate protection, education, and participation. The program includes, among other things, a Creation Service followed by a vernissage, the Climate Week in Soest and Lippstadt, the Climate Forum of the city of Soest, an evening on social cohesion, as well as theological-spiritual impulses. The conclusion is a lecture on “Impact Orientation – Religious Messages for Social Relevance and Resonance”.
Especially exciting: The Season of Creation explicitly understands itself as an open participation format. People, initiatives, and various social actors are invited to contribute their own ideas. Art, music, literature, and education are just as much part of it as municipal actors, companies, and civil society initiatives.
Thus, a church event series becomes a place of hope and understanding in the midst of the social space.
An example that gives courage
The Season of Creation in Soest shows: Being prophetic does not mean having finished answers. It means asking the decisive questions, enduring contradictions, naming injustice by its name, and at the same time believing in change.
Especially in times of climate crisis, social polarization, and growing uncertainty, there is a need for places where people come into conversation with each other and discover new possibilities for action.
The Season of Creation 2026 wants to create exactly such a place. It connects spirituality and social engagement, local responsibility and global perspectives, reflection and action.
“Continue to act and give hope” – this is therefore not only the motto of the Season of Creation. It is an invitation to us all.
Let us be prophetic!
Let us look where others look away.
Let us ask questions where everything seems settled.
Let us object where people and creation are harmed.
And let us seek ways together on which change becomes possible.
Responsibility for creation needs people who do not remain silent – and communities who intervene.
The Season of Creation 2026 in Soest shows how this can be done.

Was ist Unrecht?
Vom Reden ins Handeln
Lasst uns hinschauen, wo andere wegsehen.
Lasst uns Fragen stellen, wo scheinbar alles feststeht.
