Humility is a central virtue of Islam that arises from the recognition of God and one's own weakness and must be practiced in all interpersonal relationships, while arrogance and presumption are condemned.
The text is an Islamic sermon on the virtue of humility (at-tawadah). The speaker cites several Quranic verses that condemn arrogance and presumption and describe humility as a characteristic of the faithful. He draws on exegeses by Imam Al-Kurtubi, Ibn Kathir, and Ibn Qayyim, who present humility as the fruit of recognizing God and one's own weaknesses. A hadith from Sahih Muslim is cited, according to which the Prophet named the perfection of character as the purpose of his mission. The speaker calls on the listeners to practice humility in marriage, family, and relationships and to allow themselves to be corrected. He warns against becoming the kind of person who cannot be admonished, and refers to the Hellfire as a consequence of arrogance. The text concludes with a supplication for the improvement of character and forgiveness.

In al-hamdulillah, we praise Him and we ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our souls and from the bad deeds of our deeds. Who will guide him? Allah will not harm him and who will guide him? I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that He is not a partner. I bear witness that Muhammad, his servant and messenger, is the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family, companions, and peace be upon him, he is very kind. Al-hamdulillah for guiding us to Islam. Indeed, Islam teaches us the best belief, and Islam teaches us the best of character. Allah, as the word Jal said about His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in Surat Al Qalam wa innaka la'ala khuluqin a'adhim, indeed, you possess the best of noble character. My beloved brothers and sisters, from the character that Islam encourages, from the character that Islam orders, from the character that Islam reminds the believers of, is the character of at-tawadah, humbunis. Indeed, Allah, as the word Jal mentioned, this character in several places of the Quran, and from those places in Surat Al-Isra, Allah, as the word Jal said, wa la tamshi fil ardi maraha innaka la'antakhriq al-arda walantabluq al-jibala tulah. Allah, as the word Jal said, in Surat Al-Isra, verse 37, and do not walk both through throughout the earth, indeed, you cannot break the ground, and you do not reach the height of the mountains. When you walk boastfully and pridefully, you're not breaking the ground, and indeed, your height is not equivalent to that of the mountains. Imam Al-Kurtabi Rahim Allah Ta'ala mentioned that in this verse, Allah, as the word Jal, is prohibiting and forbidding the believers of being arrogant and prideful, and Allah is ordering the believers to be humble. Likewise, in Surat Al-Ma'ida, verse 54, Allah, as the word Jal said, addressing the believers, ya ayyuhal ladheena aminu man yartad minkum an deenihi fa sofa yatillahu bi qawmin yuhibbuhum wa yuhibbuna adhillatin aalil mu'mineen, aizatin aalil kafireen. Allah, as the word Jal says, addressing the believers, oh you who believe, whoever turns away from the religion, whoever apostates after belief, then Allah will replace him. Allah will bring about a people that he loves and they love him, and they are gentle with the believers. Allah will replace you. If you turn away from this religion, if you forsake this religion, if you turn your back on this religion and this guidance, Allah will replace you and bring about a people who love him and he loves them, and they will be gentle with the believers. Imam Al-Kurtibi said, they are merciful and gentle with one another. Imam Ibn Kithir mentioned about this verse in Surah Ma'idah. He said these or this, humbleness is from the characteristics of the complete believer. He is humble with his brother. He is humble with his brother. In Surah Lukman, Allah Azawajal mentioned how this wise man was advising his son. And he said to his son, ولا تصائر خدك للناس ولا تمشي في الأرض مرحا إن الله لا يُحبُّ كل مختارٍ فخور. Allah Azawajal said in Surah Lukman, informing us and reminding us about this advice that this wise man was giving his son. He said, do not raise your chin above the people and do not walk throughout the earth arrogantly. Indeed, Allah does not love those who are boastful, prideful and arrogant and those who are disgusting with their speech. And those who are disgusting with their speech. Likewise, in Surah Al-Qasas, Allah Azawajal said, in verse 83, تلك الدار الأخيرة نجعلها للذين لا يريدون علوً في الأرض ولا فسادة ولا عاقبة للمتقين. In Surah Al-Qasas, verse 83, Allah speaks about the hereafter. Allah speaks about that eternal abode and that eternal bliss. Allah said, this is the life of the hereafter in Paradise. This is the life of the hereafter. نجعلها, we have made it. We have ordained it to be for those who are not prideful, boastful, for those who are not arrogant and they do not want evil throughout the earth. Imam Ibn Qithir said that Allah Azawajal is mentioning the Paradise, the everlasting abode for His servants who are humble, for His servants who are not arrogant. They are not humble, Afwan, for His servants who are humble, for His servants who are not arrogant and boastful and prideful. Likewise in Surah Al-Furqan, verse 63. Allah Azawajal describes the characteristics of the believers, the characteristics of the true believers. Allah Azawajal says, وعباد الرحمن الذين يمشون على الأرض حونة وإذا خاطبهم الجاهلون قالوا سلامة. Allah Azawajal said, indeed the servants of Ar-Rahman, they are those who walked the earth with humbleness. Imam Ibn Qithir said, they are individuals that are humble. They are individuals that are patient. They are not arrogant and boastful. My beloved brothers and sisters, this is from the characteristics of the believers. This is from the characteristics of those who are true in their faith. Allah Azawajal addressed the believers. Allah Azawajal said, the servants of Ar-Rahman. So it is upon us to ask the question, Ar-Rahman, so it is upon us to ask ourselves, are we humble with one another? Are we humble in our homes? Are we humble in our marriages? Are we humble in our relationships? It is upon the brothers and sisters to display this characteristic. It is upon the brothers and sisters to display this characteristic, not to be from those who are arrogant, not to be from those who are boastful, not to be from those who are prideful, not to be the type of individual that you cannot be advised, the type of individual that you cannot be taught, the type of individual that you cannot be reminded, the type of individual that you cannot be corrected. Allah Azawajal described that individual. And from the places Allah Azawajal said about that individual in Surat al-Baqarah. And if he had the power to be taught, Allah Azawajal described that individual that cannot be taught, the individual that cannot be reminded, the individual that cannot be admonished, the individual that cannot or feels he cannot be corrected. Allah Azawajal says about that individual, when it is said to him, fear Allah, he becomes prideful and boastful with arrogance. Then Allah Azawajal said, indeed his abode would be the Hellfire. We ask Allah to save us from the Hellfire. I say this, and I forgive Allah and you forgive him. And repent to him, he is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, Nabi and Muhammad, one minute Tabal Huda. So my beloved brothers and sisters, this is from the character that Allah Azawajal described his Messenger, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, with. This character of being humble. This character of being patient. This is what Allah Azawajal described this Messenger with, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. And indeed it is for him and for his ummah. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, Indeed I was only sent to perfect the character. Indeed I was only sent to perfect the character. So this humbleness, this character of being patient, this characteristic of accepting advice, this characteristic of welcoming correction, this characteristic of you humbling yourself to be taught and to be reminded is from the ways of the believers. Is from the ways of the Prophet and the messengers. Our beloved Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, as he's reported in Sahih Muslim, It's reported in Sahih Muslim, that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, Allah revealed to me revelation. Allah revealed to me that you should be humble. So an individual should not be arrogant toward another individual. And an individual should not harm another individual. Imam, our great scholar Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Othaymin, Rahim Allah Ta'ala mentioned about this hadith. He said it was from the characteristic of the Salaf. It was from the character and mannerism of the Salaf, that they would make someone small, or they would view someone small as they would view their own son. And they would look at someone who is older and more elder as they view their own father. And they would view someone on the same level or in the same age group, they would view them as their brother. So they look at the older person with the respect that they would have for their father. And they look at the younger person with the mercy that they would have for their own child. And they look at the person from the same age group as they would view their own brother. As they would view their own brother. It is also reported in Sahih Muslim, that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, charity will not de-plenish, or charity will not decrease your wealth. And a person who pardons will only be elevated with Allah Azawajal. And the individual who is humble will also be elevated by Allah Azawajal. The individual who is humble will also be elevated by Allah Azawajal. It's mentioned by Imam Ibn Qayyim in his book On the Soul. He said, indeed, humbleness stems from knowing Allah and knowing Allah's names and attributes. And knowing the greatness of Allah. And knowing the magnificence of Allah. And knowing the might of Allah. And knowing the love of Allah. When you truly know Allah, how great Allah is. How magnificent Allah is. How mighty and powerful Allah is. This brings about humbleness. And then Imam Ibn Qayyim mentions another part of that. And when you know yourself. And when you know your weaknesses. And when you know your faults. And when you know your deficiencies. This would help you be humble. This would help you be humble. Then Imam Ibn Qayyim, Rahim Allah Ta'ala said, And this is a characteristic that Allah gives only to those who He loves. And only to those who He has blessed. And only to those who are near to Allah Azawajal. Aisha, radiya'Allah, ta'ala anha said, Indeed you are negligent of a tremendous act of worship. Indeed you are negligent and heedless with regards to a tremendous act of worship. And then Aisha, radiya'Allah, ta'ala anha said, Humbleness. May Allah Azawajal make us from those who are humble. May Allah Azawajal make us from those who are truly humble. Humble with our spouses. Humble in patient with our children. Humble in patient in our relationships. In our dealings with others. May Allah correct our character. And forgive us for our shortcomings. And our heedlessness. And our negligence. May Allah guide us in this life and the next. May Allah forgive us for our shortcomings. May Allah Azawajal grant us success in this life and the next. Allah knows best. Wa sallallahu wa sallam wa barak. A'la nabiyna Muhammad wa a'la alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam teslimin kathira.
