Planting amaryllis bulbs from the place of suffering becomes an annual act of remembrance that carries light and hope into the future.

May these flowers bloom every year and bring light and hope, in memory of the heroes who gave their lives to protect others on October 7.

The text reports on a visit by students of the Derech Avot high school of OTS in Efrat to the Gaza area. They visited the packing house of Kibbutz Sa'ad, which on October 7 served as a storage site for the bodies of those murdered that day. The head of the amaryllis production, Itzik Neichtler, gave the students bulbs from this packing house. The students planted the bulbs on their school grounds, three years after October 7. The text connects this act with the anniversary ceremonies in the OTS network. The core message is that the flowers may bloom every year and bring light and hope. They are to remind us of the heroes who gave their lives to protect others. The text is a memorial contribution that combines concrete action with symbolic meaning.

Earlier this year, students from OTS’s Derech Avot High School in Efrat traveled to the Gaza Envelope, to bear witness and stand with the community. There, they learned that packing house of Kibbutz Saad, normally used to store amaryllis bulbs, had been turned into something unthinkable on October 7: a place to hold the bodies of those murdered that day. Moved by the students’ visit, Itzik Neichtler, who manages the kibbutz’s amaryllis production, offered them a gift: bulbs from that very packing house, to plant on their own campus. This week, three years after October 7, the students planted them as ceremonies marked the anniversary across the OTS network. May these flowers bloom each year, bringing light and hope, in memory of the heroes who gave their lives protecting others on October 7.
