The earthly sanctuary is the central biblical model that reveals the structure, the goals, and the eternal dimension of the divine plan of redemption.

The model in the plan of redemption is the sanctuary. And I can also show you that in other texts. There are five texts that I have pulled out now. Interestingly, all from the Psalms.

The preacher presents the earthly sanctuary as the central model of the divine plan of redemption. He derives the dimension of this plan from Ellen White's writings, which describe it as an eternal object of study. Using the example of construction sites in Germany, he illustrates the complexity of divine plans. The three goals of the plan are the revelation of the divine character, its restoration in humanity, and ultimate fellowship. Five Psalms are cited to demonstrate the connection between the sanctuary and the nature of God. The arrangement of the furniture in the sanctuary is interpreted as a cross symbol and a representation of the elements of redemption. The preacher emphasizes that the sanctuary is a major motif of the entire Bible and has special theological significance for the Adventist church.

A warm welcome to you all. Unfortunately, it is already half past twelve, but I hope I can make the sermon so engaging that it will help you forget the time a little. First of all, thank you for the musical piece you have contributed. That is very important. Open your heart. I would like to speak with you today about this topic, the Plan of Redemption, and I would like to start with a word that occurs very frequently in the media. And that is the word "Investitionsstau" (investment backlog). I do not know who has heard of it. "Investitionsstau" means that we in Germany have a problem. Our bridges, our schools, our railway, everything is somehow dilapidated. It needs to be redone. And especially when I drive past such, well, I will call them, motorway interchanges, for example, where several motorways meet, it happens that they are being rebuilt. And I find it always very fascinating when I drive past there in this whole jumble of lights, if it is just at night, yes, of signs, that one somehow still has a clear view and gets onto the correct lane. And now almost every driver feels this way, especially when there are such construction sites, that one wonders, am I now turning off correctly or do I have to turn off somewhere else. And I find it fascinating, because I then thought about it and thought to myself, is it not already partially years ago that someone in an authority started to think about this construction site. He developed a plan so that everything succeeds well. That is, expansion, reserves created, that somewhere within the framework of the green area something is dug again, so that one can drive over it, whatever it is. And now think about it, this is a small construction site and demands so many resources. The Plan of Redemption that God has developed for this world, yes, for the entire universe, is a much bigger topic. And before we can discuss and also lay out a plan, we must consider what is actually the goal? And I have defined the goal based on two, on three texts. One can perhaps also expand on that, I would not rule it out, but there are three that at least caught my attention, where I believe they are important. And the first is that in the Garden of Eden Eve and Adam were seduced by the snake, by having God's character called into question. Is God really as He acts? That is, the first goal of the Plan of Redemption is that God's character is truly shown as He is. That is the first. The second is that God's character is a goal that is restored in us humans. That is, that we, as those who have just said goodbye to God, that He does something in us, that He does something for us. God's character is restored. In Romans 8:29, that we are conformed to the image of God. And the third is a final fellowship with His creation. And we know this especially in the Revelation, this text. It says there that the throne of God is with the people, that He dwells with them. These are the three goals. And of course one can now stay up all night, there may be more, that may be so, but I have picked out these three and then asked myself the question, if these are the three goals and there is a Plan of Redemption, what does it now entail or how great is the dimension? And the interesting thing is that Ellen White has written something about this in two quotes. There are even more, but in the two that I would like to quote, she writes in *The Great Controversy*, the significance of the work of redemption will occupy the redeemed through the endless ages. And in *The Desire of Ages* now the theme of redemption will be the science and the song of the redeemed in the entire eternity. So, the Plan of Redemption must be gigantic, if one can study this topic for thousands of centuries without coming to an end. This means, therefore, that in some form we can also say that that it is a science, something quite special. And therefore, for me, the question for us as Christians is: is there a model in the Bible that shows what the plan of redemption is and how it is presented? And I believe there is a model. And this model is very interesting. In Exodus 25, God says to Moses, make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among you, according to all that I have shown you, according to the pattern of the tabernacle that you have seen on the mountain, the sanctuary, or in Hebrews 8:5, also in the 9th chapter. It is a copy and a shadow of the heavenly things, which was shown here on earth through the sanctuary. And in the third, it is this verse, which I have just quoted, where it says to you that God will count among the people and He will dwell with them, and they will be His peoples. Simply put, God makes an earthly sanctuary and says to the people, I want to dwell among you. And at the end, in Revelation, exactly the same thing comes again. If we are united with Him, the consequence is that He says, now is the time that I can fully dwell with you. The model in the plan of redemption is the sanctuary. And I can also show you this in other texts. There are five texts that I have now pulled out. Interestingly, all from the Psalms. In Psalm 27:4, I have predominantly used the Elberfelder translation. That means, one thing I have asked of the Lord, that I desire, to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord. So, sorry. The beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His sanctuary. That means, the psalmist, the author, says, I go into the house of the Lord, into the sanctuary, and I look at how lovely God is. And I search in the sanctuary for how God is. In Psalm 63:3, so I look for you in the sanctuary, to see your power and your glory. That means, the author connects the power and the glory of God with the sanctuary. Psalm 77:14, this is only in the two translations in the Elberfelder and in the Zurich Bible. God, Your way is in the sanctuary. With you in the other translations it usually says, Your way is holy. I specifically went deeper with the AI and looked to see if this has to be interpreted differently anywhere exegetically. No, both variants are consciously possible. A local reference in the sanctuary or that God has a holy way. Psalm 73:17, there the author reflects on the wicked, until I went into the sanctuary of God, I will consider their end there. And I asked myself the question, where am I in the sanctuary something about the wicked? And in Psalm 48:10, a truly brilliant text. We have thought, God, about your courts in the inner part of your temple. And then we considered in the inner part of the temple the probability of greatness, so that the Most Holy Place is meant. Because in the Most Holy Place stood the Ark of the Covenant and on the Ark of the Covenant were these two angels and it was called the cherubim. That means, we have in the Bible many statements about the sanctuary, which basically show that there must be more behind it. So, what we see so far, namely a place where God has said, there I have various pieces of furniture and now I will put you in once. And I would like to take you with me today, and briefly show you again, thanks to AI it is very quick, how the sanctuary was constructed. So one went into the courtyard. First came the altar of burnt offering there, then the basin, then one went through the curtain, only the priests were allowed in there, through the curtain in here was the table of showbread, here the altar of incense there and here the lampstand. And then came the next curtain and the next curtain was the access to the Most Holy Place. And the access to the Most Holy Place was at the back the Ark of the Covenant with the cherubim. And this access, the high priest was only allowed in there once a year. Otherwise, it was locked. I don’t know if you have noticed, when you look at the arrangement, it is a cross. From the beginning, the cross is what conveys to us the center of our faith. And I would like to show you further that there is actually a designation for each of these items, which can be found in the Bible. I have written all of this down for you, and you are welcome to study it further. In the plan of redemption, one sees all elements, from the sinner coming to God, through the sacrifice, through the cleansing, through the sanctification, through the intercession of God, through the Word of God, through the Holy Spirit, the law of judgment, up to complete reconciliation. The elements of the plan of redemption are all found in the sanctuary. And I was thrilled, because the question arises: what is the sanctuary? It was just something that is described a bit in the second or third book of Moses. I then really researched it thoroughly and am grateful for the new media, as one can do so much with AI. So it is truly crazy. I would not have thought that almost 50 percent of the Bible, almost every second chapter, contains analogies to the sanctuary. If you include the topics of sacrifice, priesthood, reconciliation, temple, everything that finds its fulfillment in Christ, the sanctuary is actually one of the main motifs that runs through the entire Bible. And I would like to point out that it is not only Adventists who say this. It has now also become a topic in the Evangelical world that is studied very intensively, with an increasing number of doctoral theses, bachelor theses, or master’s theses on the subject. This means that the sanctuary is particularly important. And I would like to take you along, because I asked myself the question, or I will explain to you why I asked myself this question and would like to speak with you about it today. And I have five points for myself. First, if it is the center of the plan of redemption, then it must be something special. Then one must engage more deeply with it. So, I thought to myself, I must do this. The second is that the Seventh-day Adventist Church came into being on the basis of the sanctuary. Daniel 8:14 was the key text for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I believe that this topic is the most controversial one, both within the church and outside of it. We are moving in a very, well, I believe this topic is minefield-like. But we proceed boldly. This doctrine has been strongly questioned. In the last 180 years, there have been ongoing disputes, continuing to this day. And in a special way in the last 50 years since the last major crisis with Desmond Ford, which was approximately in the 1970s and 1980s, and which had a very significant impact on theology. And I began this study, I believe, in January, because I said that people come to me when this topic is studied in the Bible. If we have this topic in the first hour of our discussion group, people say, what does this have to do with my life? The cross, we all know that, I can make something of it. Someone died for me. But the sanctuary, oh dear, now we have to study this topic for three months again. I don’t know, I can’t make much of it. I started picking up lectures, the Bible, everything possible. And I often cannot sleep at night. That means I often got up at three or four o’clock, after four or five hours. And I started working on things. I tell you, I was moved. I was truly thrilled by it. Every time I picked it up, I said, dear God, what kind of message have you prepared here? I have never encountered anything so wonderful. I have been in the church for a long time. And I have known the church for a long time and have also been able to learn from the elders. But this here has no end. And I have I had just started with it. And I thought to myself, how am I going to fit this into a 30-minute sermon? That was, of course, difficult. And then I thought to myself, I can only really offer you two points, which were, up to now, what has excited me. And I would like to briefly show you first what we, as Adventists, actually understand. Excuse me. Here is exactly what is described in number one, which I myself experienced. I kept discovering more and more. And that is the case for everyone who deals with it. And now I would like to briefly take you along again to what Adventists actually understand by the doctrine of sanctification. And it is, in fact, the entire plan of redemption from the Fall to the Restoration. The Cross, the service of the High Priest, the Judgment since 1844, sin is eliminated, and the Second Coming. There is such a bracket around the whole topic of the Gospel, the Law, Judgment, Sanctification, and the Second Coming. And I would like to point out again that the Fall did not begin only in the Garden of Eden, but it began even before that. Lucifer was the highest angel and he rebelled against God. That means, therefore, the entire theme of redemption is a cosmic problem. And it requires a cosmic solution. I have brought you two insights. And the first is rather general and has excited me, as I also discovered it. I would like to briefly take you along to this passage, Daniel 8:14. We frequently discuss what the 2,300 evenings and mornings mean, what it means that the sanctuary must be cleansed. I would like to briefly draw your attention to the first two words. Until 2,300 evenings and mornings. I also asked myself the question, where is the defilement, if it happened? If one looks in the Bible, it was usual, that daily, the blood of the sacrifice was carried by the priest into the Holy Place and was sprinkled against the wall and everywhere. One can easily imagine that real defilement occurred there. And that is why there was the Day of Atonement, which once a year eliminated everything. That was actually, I call it, the model story. But when we go through the millennia, something happened in this entire plan of redemption, namely that the plan of redemption was distorted. And now a full slide comes, I hope you forgive me, I am only going to address two or three points. The sanctuary, each individual object, was given a different meaning. And we can take an example here: if we think of the basin in connection with infant baptism, then we see a meaning within the framework of infant baptism. Or if we see the theme of the burnt offering there, then we see that there is a one-time sacrifice in the Bible, which is sufficient. And we have a Mass, which represents a continuous sacrifice. Each time anew. Or we have the tablets of the Law, which were in the Ark of the Covenant, where a church authority was placed above the Scripture. And that is something that continues to this day. And I asked myself the question, is that not a form of defilement in the sanctuary? And then I, thanks to AI, crafted a brilliant slide, oh, excuse me, I am back at the end again. Here briefly again on this, here you see, these points of the sanctuary object, the biblical meaning, and the alienation, the alienation or desecration or alteration of this plan of redemption. And in the next one, thanks to AI, we can see how, through the Reformation, each individual object in the sanctuary was put back in its proper place. And that over a period of a good 500 years. John Wycliffe was the first to translate the Bible into English. With that, it became accessible to a broad population. Jan Hus said that the Bible alone is above tradition. And you see below, it is so the table, the Table of Showbread. And also the movements that arose from it, you can see there how a movement has repeatedly manifested itself anew. Martin Luther, the most famous because he was also German, justification by faith, solely through the blood of Christ, led to the founding of the Protestant church, approximately in the 16th century. And then came the Anabaptists, who then developed into Baptists, Mennonites, and Brethren communities, because they said, no, baptism must take place differently. John Calvin, who said, Christ is the only mediator, not the saints. Or John Wesley, who said, hey, our life must be in agreement with what God says. And we want to be a help to other people. We want to help them get to know Jesus, which corresponds to the candlestick to some extent. And William Miller, who then, regarding the Second Coming and Prophecy 1844, or subsequently, the Advent movement that emerged, and specifically in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary, Sabbath, and judgment, tried to rediscover. And the fascinating thing is, and we can address that right away, always, whenever a new one came, the new one was either persecuted or negatively evaluated by the established ones, up to today. And Luther, for example, had a big problem with the Anabaptists. He also had a big problem with Hebrews, James, and Revelation. He also canonized the books differently. If you look at the Luther Bible, the Luther Bible is arranged differently than the Elberfelder or Schlachter. And he has the original structure. He deliberately placed these three books at the end of the Bible. That means, if we look at that, God has set in motion a reformation over 500 years so that a return to the truth in the sanctuary takes place. And that shows how wonderful God is, because he said, before the end times come, the things that are important from the Bible must become known. The second insight is this question, which I briefly mentioned earlier. What does the service of Jesus in the heavenly sanctuary have to do with me? And in 1 John 2:1, there is one of the verses, actually a beautiful verse, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. I have two more verses, the second verse from Romans, where it also says, Christ Jesus is. He who died, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Jesus serves as high priest in the heavenly sanctuary. This is a biblical doctrine. And whether that was in the Holy Place or in the Most Holy Place is fundamentally not decisive at all. What is decisive is that if I have sinned today, I need someone to whom I can go. If you look, in the Old Testament it was also so, the Israelites went to the sanctuary. And they spoke with the priest about it and told them, listen, I have incurred guilt upon myself. And then the animal is sacrificed as forgiveness. And it was a foreshadowing, when the cross comes. And now it happens that we have an advocate. In retrospect, without the intercession, the cross would be a purely historical experience. This speaks for the fact that the high priest’s service of Jesus is as important as the cross, because it makes my forgiveness tangible for me. Now, in today’s time, where I sin today, I came across this and it hit me quite hard, because I have read the texts so often already. 1 John 1:9. We begin with the 1st year. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And I asked myself the question, why does he repeat that? Above all, he does not repeat it in such a way that I say, it is simply this Hebrew repetition, but they are actually two statements. He forgives sin and he cleanses from unrighteousness. And I found the same in several verses and I asked myself the question, is it a pattern? Is there a pattern contained? And we know that, I drew your attention to this earlier, in the Old Covenant there were two services, the daily service, I go there, I confess my sin, and the annual service. And I thought to myself, could it be the case that with these statements both are meant, both the topic of forgiveness of sins and cleansing from guilt. Because in the sanctuary one sees that both belong together and both are covered by Jesus. What is the practical consequence of this now? And I have the first two, since the ascension of Jesus we have two focal points in the service of Jesus. We have the forgiveness of past sin and we have the transformation of character. These are the two topics that Jesus offers us through his redemption. And since the Day of Atonement, since the service in the Most Holy Place of Jesus, there are four aspects, if you read in Leviticus 16 and 23, they are written at the very bottom, to humble yourselves, to fast, to ass

So, sorry. Man ging also in den Vorruf rein.
