A personal encounter with Jesus can heal deep familial suffering, transform anger into peace, and lead to forgiveness and inner peace.
I can now say that I am ready to forgive my mama, that I have forgiven her, for the fact that she left, because she probably had her reasons.
The text is a podcast interview in which a woman (Angi) tells her personal story: she was abandoned by her mother at the age of six months and raised by her grandparents. She describes persistent anger and aggression problems that resurfaced through the death of her grandfather. Through a friend, she came into contact with a Christian community and experienced a personal encounter with Jesus at a conference in Zurich, which she describes as a tangible hand on her shoulder. Since then, she reports inner calm, forgiveness toward her mother, and a new relationship with God. The text closes with an invitation to the listeners to open their hearts to God and to join a Christian community. The core message is that a personal encounter with Jesus can heal suffering and grant peace.

Welcome to a new Real Talk. Today I have Angie with me. It’s so nice that you’re here today. I’m very happy. And maybe a little cliffhanger: what is today’s topic? It’s about what I do when I am abandoned by the people closest to me. Specifically, your mother left you; you were six months old at the time. That’s huge. But you decided to get baptized, and we thought we’d just take a look at your story and ask you: what was your life like before you decided to get baptized? Um, my life was very chaotic. Um, as I said, I grew up without my mother, I was raised by my grandparents, together with my sisters. Um, I was very angry in many situations. I also, I would say, had some mild aggression problems in general, um, which have accompanied me throughout my life, because I couldn’t understand why I had to grow up without my mother. Yes. Um, last year my grandfather, who raised me and who actually filled a father role for me, passed away. Um, and I also noticed how that anger came back. And then, actually by chance, a friend of mine said she had found a church community and that I should come along. And then I was like, wow, okay, because we hadn’t had much contact before. Um, and then I realized how Jesus also tried to catch me again. So, I grew up Catholic before, so I knew God, but I never really had a relationship with God, and also not with Jesus; Jesus was there, but not really present. So, do you understand what I mean? Yes. Um, yes, and then I was in Zurich at the conference, and there was briefly a situation involving a mother, um, and that was really intense, because I became very emotional, but I felt a hand on my shoulder, although no one touched me, and that was the first moment when I truly felt Jesus, and since then things have been going uphill. Um, I can now say that I am ready to forgive my mother, that I have forgiven her for leaving, because she probably had her reasons. Um, exactly, and the anger is gone, I would say. So, I am more relaxed, I am calmer, and yes. Yes. Wow, so that means you grew up, you experienced a lot of suffering, you were angry, were you also angry at God? Yes. Yes? Probably not, if you had thought to yourself, how can God allow this? Why did this happen to me? And then this situation occurred where you felt that hand. Can you describe a bit what exactly happened? Did Jesus somehow encounter you, or what was it? What was that? Yes, so at first I was very confused, I turned around and was like, who is touching me, why am I being touched, but there really was no person touching me, so I can only explain it as being Jesus’s hand, and um, then I cried even more, because I realized, okay, he is really there, he promises that he is there, and he is really there. And what did you feel? Was it like, I don’t know, I imagine that maybe you felt love for the first time, or can you describe that a bit? It was a different kind of love, because I also received a lot of love from my grandparents, for which I am very grateful, but it was a different love. I can’t really describe it properly, so it was warm, it felt good, it was simply beautiful. And when exactly was that? At the conference. In May? Yes, this May. So about six months ago? Yes. Um, what would you say happened during this time? You said you can forgive your mother, um, you
Have you made a fresh decision for Jesus again? What has He changed in your heart? I would say He has calmed me down. I am truly more relaxed; I handle situations very differently. I carry much more peace and love within me. I do not get angry as quickly as I used to before. Mhm, wow. So powerfully, and perhaps you are also at a similar point where you think, “Why is this happening to me? I have somehow so much suffering in my life.” Perhaps you are angry with God, perhaps you are angry with your neighbors or close relatives. And now, perhaps one more question for you: what would you advise a person who is perhaps in exactly such a situation right now, just as you were, only when one feels this well, what helped you to open your heart to faith anew? Personally, I always had a very strong urge to go to church, even if it was not a service, just to sit down and simply feel the peace. And I think it is simply important to open one’s heart and to trust that something will change. Yes. Yes. And also, I think of this knowledge: God is good, yes, even if my circumstances perhaps look different. And I believe, no, for you, encouraged, if you are currently watching or listening to this podcast, perhaps you do not understand things right now, but as Anchi said, God is good, no matter what has happened to you in life, and I find that so powerful in you. You are getting baptized, or exactly, you have made the decision, despite your entire past, and perhaps briefly say again, how has your life changed very concretely? For example, were you able to forgive your mother, but also perhaps in your environment, you are part of this church here. What does your life look like now? As I said, I have become very calm. So, I, what, found peace? What did you find? Found. Yes, and many people have already approached me, saying that I come across differently. And I believe that is also the point where one notices that I have changed through Jesus. Yes. Wow. Oh, I find that such a powerful word, yes, you have found peace, and with that we also conclude, and perhaps you also wish for yourself that you simply find peace in your heart, and I would like to invite you, open your heart to God, because as you have heard, God is good, God is there, and He wants to encounter you, and a heartfelt invitation also to enter into community. Come to church, a heartfelt invitation, also seek out people, you have told us, you are in the New Believers group, you are in contact with people, you talk about faith, you bring your questions, that is so, so valuable. Therefore, feel encouraged. I hope you truly feel encouraged, be blessed, and we will see you soon.

Herzlich willkommen zu einem neuen Real Talk. Heute habe ich die Angie bei mir. So schön, dass du heute da bist. Freue mich sehr. Also, verstehst du, was ich meine? Ja. Und was hast du gefühlt? Ja, jetzt in Mai. Also ungefähr ein halbes Jahr? Ja. Also, ich Was, Frieden gefunden? Was die? gefunden.
