So this is going to be a guided meditation on equanimity and I will ask you to imagine or visualize as it's usually said but to not get hang up on the verb visualize as if it needs to be particularly visual so just imagining or thinking of certain people So let's first just settle to relax state feel the posture and leaning on the momentum of our practice at this time allowing our usual anchor to manifest and rest in it for a few minutes and now imagine in front of you three different persons that can be visual or just thinking of them saying their name inwardly But just kind of sensing their presence the same way that we know There are people meditating around us even though our eyes may be closed three people in front of you On the left a dear friend Not necessarily the person you love the most Not particularly a parent or a partner But someone who gives you a good feeling a pleasant tonality With whom you have an uncomplicated relationship someone you feel good about Someone you like doesn't need to be the perfect choice Just try one in the center a Stranger maybe a personal retreatant or guy a house coordinator you've seen a couple of times In the corridors, but you don't know their name We don't know anything about them and I you neither like or dislike them They don't evoke much anything in you neutral and to the right a Person you don't like very much Do not choose someone you have a very intense conflict with just someone that when you see them you feel Kind of dislike that person really not something very intense Just you don't like them very much and perhaps you can Slowly move your focus Just to get a clear sense of how each of these people make you feel Allowing whatever sensations arise Pleasantness joy warm Indifference curiosity discomfort annoyance Irritation let's take the person you like the dear friends Think of how they were once a baby They cried They slept they looked at objects really intently They learns to crawl to walk Imagine them growing up going to school the kind of experiences they may have had good friends Maybe they fell in love and it was not corresponded Think of them growing up slowly until The person they are now We don't need to be exhaustive Especially if you chose someone of a certain age who already has had quite a long life And then as they reach their current age Think of how They will grow old They will change and age They will encounter some sickness They may lose their autonomy and they will die and then just rest with the idea of this person The person you know and how you're feeling now and now move to the stranger and Again reflect on how they were once a baby They cried They slept they looked at objects really intently They learned to walk to talk They fell they went to school They kept growing up. They had friends Maybe they had their heart broken Maybe they did well in school. Maybe they didn't They went on nights out with their friends They learned a job. They had successes and difficult times Like anyone and they will continue to grow old To age and change They may get sick. They may lose their memory Lose their autonomy and they will die and then just rest with your sense of this person With however you feel now and then the person on the right Person whom you dislike Think of how they were once a baby They cried They slept they looked at objects really intently They started crawling They learned to walk To speak One day they put on a backpack and went to school There they had friends Maybe they fell in love and it was not corresponded Maybe they did great at school Maybe they had a really difficult time They kept growing up became teenagers young adults They went on nights out with their friends They kept on studying they started working They had successes and misfortunes And once they reach the current age Think of how they will continue To grow old to change Experiencing aging they may get sick Lose their autonomy Their hair will turn gray and one day they will die So just resting with your sense of this person And how you feel now and remaining aware of these three people in front of you Or just keeping the three people in mind their names and how you feel about each one of them and for the last minute or so Just rest naturally in your current state The body the breath relinquishing all efforts Just remaining aware Hey, so thank you for your practice um Thank you for listening to learn how you can support the teachers and dharma seed Please visit dharmaseed.org slash donate
