Gratitude
In 50 years, ISKCON has built a universal spiritual movement that enables all people, regardless of origin, to achieve self-realisation through the Vedic tradition, and its growth is celebrated as a success of Bhakti practice.
All people, regardless of race, nationality, gender, or religion, should be able to practise the process of self-realisation that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (1486 to 1533) established in sixteenth-century Bengal and which stands in the tradition of the millennia-old Vedic heritage.
The text celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of ISKCON in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in New York. It presents the historical development of the movement, which started with 20 USD and a few books and grew into a worldwide organisation with 602 temples and millions of followers. The core message emphasises the universal accessibility of the spiritual practice of self-realisation, regardless of race, nationality, or religion. The focus is on the eternal self rather than the perishable body, based on the Vedic heritage and the teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The text honours the work of the past fifty years in disseminating spiritual knowledge and the Bhakti tradition. It invites the public to visit the centres especially frequently in the anniversary year 2016. Concrete figures on the organisation's reach are given, including initiated disciples, temples, educational institutes, and vegetarian restaurants. The tone is celebratory and inviting, with the aim of honouring the community and its achievements.

ISKCON Turns 50
[rev_slider iskcon-50]
Krishna consciousness is a tradition thousands of years old – in the West, however, the movement for Krishna consciousness is still relatively young. In 1965, an elderly Swami (spiritual teacher) named His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada arrived in New York from India on a cargo ship and there, on July 13, 1966, founded the “International Society for Krishna Consciousness,” abbreviated as ISKCON. All people, regardless of race, nationality, gender, or religion, should be able to practice the process of self-realization that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (1486 to 1533) established in Bengal in the 16th century and which stands in the tradition of the thousands-of-years-old Vedic heritage. The focus is not on our temporary body, but on the eternal self.
For the members of ISKCON, the year 2016 is an important anniversary year. We are pleased to have been active for half a century in the dissemination of spiritual knowledge of the Bhakti tradition. Fifty years ago, Srila Prabhupada started our movement with 20 USD and approximately 200 three-volume sets of the edition of the Bhagavata Purana that he translated and commented on. Until his passing, he had initiated approximately 10,000 disciples and, with their help, established approximately 100 ISKCON temples and farm communities worldwide, a book publisher (the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust), and a scientific institute (the Bhaktivedānta Institute), and written approximately 50 books.
Today, ISKCON has:
75,000 initiated disciples,
a community of seven million persons who regularly attend events,
602 temples,
65 Eco-farms,
54 educational institutes including schools of all kinds,
110 vegetarian restaurants,
the largest vegetarian hunger relief in the world,
and approximately half a billion books have been distributed.
Worldwide, we celebrate significant events on this occasion, and all festivals of our society, such as the regular Saturday or Sunday events, the appearance days of Chaitanya, Krishna, and our spiritual teachers, are dedicated to our golden jubilee. Additionally, there are special events that we will announce separately.
We would like to warmly invite you to visit our centers particularly frequently in the year 2016.

Die ISKCON wird 50
[rev_slider iskcon-50]
Im Jahre 1965 kam ein älterer Swami (geistlicher Lehrer) namens His Divine Grace A.C.
