The Festival of Sacrifice is an opportunity to strengthen the community through ritual acts and generosity while simultaneously overcoming personal sins and negative traits through inner repentance.

Let us not see the Festival of Sacrifice merely as a time in which animals are sacrificed. Let us use these days to also "sacrifice" our sins and bad habits — that is, to give them up.

The text is a sermon for the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice (Id al-Adha), which begins with praise of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. It refers to the Sunna of performing the festival prayer before the sacrifice and emphasizes the significance of following in the footsteps of Ibrahim and Ismail. The sermon calls for the festival to be lived as a time of joy, generosity, and solidarity, particularly through providing for those in need and nurturing interpersonal relationships. A central point is the call to inner repentance, in which sins and bad habits such as lying, envy, and arrogance are to be "sacrificed." Since the festival falls on a Friday, the double blessing of both days is highlighted. Concrete calls to action include visiting the elderly, calling those who are far away, and remembering the deceased. The text closes with the affirmation of the oneness of God (Tawhid) and the call "Allahu Akbar."

The Festival of Sacrifice (06.06.2025) All praise and thanks are due to Allah, Who created us from nothing, gave us knowledge of His existence, bestowed upon us countless gifts, and has allowed us to reach the Festival of Sacrifice once again! Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saw.), who brought the Festival of Sacrifice as a gift to his Umma (community of believers) – with the faithfulness of the Prophet Ibrahim (as.), the sincerity of Hadya, and the devotion of the Prophet Ismail (as.). May Allah's mercy, forgiveness, love, and grace be upon us all. May our Festival of Sacrifice be blessed! Dear brothers and sisters! The Messenger of Allah (saw.) spoke in a sermon on the morning of a Festival of Sacrifice to his companions: "Our first act of worship on this day is to perform the ritual festival prayer, then to return and offer our sacrifice. Whoever does so follows our Sunnah." We have performed our ritual festival prayer – may Allah accept it. May Allah also accept our sacrifices – whether it is the animal slaughtered by ourselves or the donated sacrifices in all parts of the world – may He accept them. Our ritual prayers, all our acts of faith, our life and our death belong to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May Allah accept it from us! Dear brothers and sisters! Dear believers! The festival days are days of joy that reflect the core of Islam. Peace, mercy, willingness to share, and solidarity, which form the essence of Islam, should be alive and tangible on these days. The festival days are days of generosity and magnanimity. They are blessed times in which first the hearts and then the tables are opened to their guests, and in which sharing brings blessing and abundance. The festival days are days full of opportunities for good. They are times to remember the needy, to please the poor, and to bring a smile to the faces of orphans. The festival days are days of respect. They are special times in which we remember love, loyalty, and gratitude, in which we honor the elderly and please the young. Festival days do not only mean joy – they also mean remembering, inquiring, and showing sincere interest in our fellow human beings. Dear brothers and sisters! Let us not see the Festival of Sacrifice only as a time in which animals are sacrificed. Let us use these days to also "sacrifice" our sins and bad habits – that is, to give them up. Let us refrain from lying, let us stop backbiting. Let us remove envy, self-seeking, and arrogance from our lives. Let us avoid waste and unlawful (haram) earnings. Let us separate ourselves from the love of the world and everything that distances us from Allah. Dear brothers and sisters! Since today's Festival of Sacrifice falls on a Friday, we are experiencing two festivals at the same time! Let us on this blessed day double the joy of the festival together with our loved ones. Let us truly live this festival as a festival, and make it equally experiential for others. Let us, if possible, visit our elderly in person, please them, and receive their prayers. Let us call our loved ones who live far away and thus create closeness. Let us not leave our neighbors outside the blessing of the Festival of Sacrifice. Let us send individual, heartfelt greetings instead of impersonal chain messages and strengthen interpersonal closeness. Let us please our children and all those who bring us joy with their festival greetings. Let us not forget our deceased – let us remember them especially on these days. Let us sincerely remember our Creator. Let us together loudly declare that there is nothing greater and no other god than Allah: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar! Sure al-Anʿām, 6:162. 2025-06-06 Alle Rechte vorbehalten.
