A good upbringing, which combines intellectual and moral formation with care, is the most valuable gift parents can give their children, and it surpasses any material provision.
The Prophet of Mercy said that a father cannot leave his child anything better than a good upbringing and good conduct.
The text is a DITIB Friday sermon that deals with child-rearing as its central theme. It draws on the Quranic narrative of Luqman and his son as well as on Hadiths of the Prophet. The sermon emphasizes that parents should not only meet their children's material needs but also form them intellectually and morally. Specifically, humility, respect, prayer practice, and the avoidance of arrogance are named as educational goals. The text calls on parents to accompany their children with kindness, attentiveness, and patience. It is emphasized that a good upbringing is the best gift parents can leave their children. The sermon is addressed to the Muslim community and connects religious duties with practical, everyday parenting instructions.

The greatest gift to our children:
A good upbringing
(01.08.2025)
Dear brothers and sisters! Believers!
In our Friday sermon today, I would like to address the advice of a wise father to his son, whose name is mentioned in the Noble Quran. This father is Luqman.1
Luqman was a wise man blessed with deep insight and discernment. One day, he sat down with his son and gave him valuable advice. Our exalted Lord was so pleased with the words of this father to his child that He mentioned them in the Noble Quran.
Honored believers!
Let us be inspired by the advice of the wise Luqman to his son and give our children the following words on their path:
My dear child! Never associate anything with Allah! Do not ascribe any of Allah's attributes to other beings! Serve no one but Allah! My child! You may keep something secret from people, but not from Allah. Even if you do the smallest deed – whether in secret or in the open, whether in the heavens or on earth – Allah will surely bring it to light on the Day of Judgment. Nothing remains hidden from Him.1
My child! Keep your connection to your Creator alive, do not neglect your ritual prayer! Do not delay your duties towards Allah! Be an example in good and one who prevents evil throughout your life! Always be resolute and steadfast! My child! Greatness and omnipotence belong to Allah forever! Do not consider yourself superior, do not despise others! Be humble and modest! Be respectful and decent! Pay attention to your demeanor, to the way you walk and speak! Do not forget: Allah does not love those who overestimate themselves. Be a servant whom Allah loves and with whom He is pleased!
Believers!
Our beloved Prophet (s) also entrusted parents with important responsibilities regarding the upbringing of children. The Prophet of Mercy said that a father cannot leave his child anything better than a good upbringing and good conduct.2 And in another hadith it is said: "Treat your children kindly and educate them well."3
Our responsibility towards our children must not be limited to merely fulfilling their basic physical needs. Let us speak to them with kind and warm words. Let us spend beautiful time with them. Let us communicate in a respectful and understanding manner. Let us try to understand their feelings, listen to them when they have problems, and support them in all matters. Let us give them advice, help them learn from their mistakes, and strive to be a good example for them. Let us give them our undivided attention and love.
May Allah make us among His beloved and pleasing servants! May He protect our children and us from all evil! May our Friday be blessed!

Das größte Geschenk an unsere Kinder:
Eine gute Erziehung
(01.08.2025)
Liebe Geschwister!
