Date: March 7 and 8, 2024
Participants: 11 persons
Duration of the workshop: 5 hours
Speaker: Sayyid Maher Al-Ali
About the speaker:
Sayyid Maher El-Ali initially spent 6 years as a student at the Hawza Baqir al-Uloom in Lebanon and then emigrated to Qom to continue his studies, graduating from the Imam Sadegh (AS) school of the Al-Mustafa (SA) community in Iran. Subsequently, he returned to Lebanon to continue his studies there. He is proficient in the languages German, Arabic, Persian, and English.
Summary of the report:
During this two-day workshop, Sayyid Maher El-Ali spoke in two lectures about child-rearing in Islam and read and explained verses and hadiths on this topic for the audience.
In this practical workshop, the participants learned the fundamental principles of religious education from the perspective of the Quran and the hadiths and also discussed practical applications of these teachings in the education of children in today’s time.
Sayyid Maher Al-Ali began with the topic of who in the family is responsible for the education of the children and what role each parent plays in the orientation of a child’s education. The speaker then discussed the Islamic standpoint on child-rearing and mentioned hadiths about the blessing of children and the blessing that enters the house when children are present. He also mentioned a hadith of the Prophet (s.) about the significance of child-rearing and the reward for it. Furthermore, it was pointed out that sometimes, due to financial concerns or the difficulties of child-rearing, people hesitate to have children, while in the hadiths it is said that God provides for the sustenance of children. Therefore, such concerns are unnecessary.
In the course of the session, Mr. El-Ali spoke about the goal of child-rearing and the effective elements in child-rearing. The first effective factor in child-rearing is the genetic influence on the child’s personality. Secondly, the characteristics of the spouses, namely the personalities of the father and mother, play an important role in the education of the child. When explaining this topic, it must be noted which ethical qualities the man and woman possess, as their personalities will have an effective influence on the ethics and the education of the child.
Thirdly, matters such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the care of the child in childhood have an important influence on the formation of the child’s personality. In this context, many hadiths teach us which measures should be observed in this phase. For example, if the mother maintains ritual purity and recites the Quran while breastfeeding, this has an educational effect on the child’s personality.
In a subsequent section, the speaker spoke about the responsibility of parents for the education of their children and the three main methods of education, namely the observance of justice, the practice of a role model, and love and affection, and explained all three methods in the light of the traditions in this area. He considered all three educational methods as indispensable and emphasized that in a religious education, both the observance of justice and the transmission of ethical concepts to the child, as well as the maintenance of a loving and secure relationship, are of great importance. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that parents also play a very important role indirectly in the education of their children, as they are role models for life for children and they naturally imitate their parents in many cases.
At the end, the speaker answered the questions of the participants and the session ended.

Dauer des Workshops: 5 Stunden
Referent: Sayyid Maher Al-Ali
