Parents' engagement for climate protection is an effective and emotional response to the climate crisis, which must be strengthened through educational work and political demands for clean air and ambitious legislation.
The newsletter celebrates the 50th issue of Parents for Future (P4F) and honours the engagement of thousands of parents in Germany. Words of greeting from Fridays for Future and the For-Future alliance emphasise the joint work for climate protection and the specific role of parents as a motivating force. The text documents P4F's accession to the alliance 'Clean Air 2030', which advocates for the observance of stricter air quality standards. A large part of the newsletter is devoted to educational tips for children and parents in the sections Reading, Listening, Playing, and Watching. Specific books and projects are presented that are intended to raise children's awareness of sustainability and climate protection. The text appeals to the readership to support the team by getting involved, and refers to current political frustrations as well as the need to maintain pressure on the government for ambitious climate protection.

NEWSLETTER #50 Page 1 www.parentsforfuture.de (P4F) • Newsletter #50 • 07/2026 CONGRATULATIONS ON 50 ISSUES!
Dear readers, for the 50th time, the P4F newsletter (NL) is fluttering into electronic inboxes. Greetings from Fridays for Future, the For-Future Alliance, Kit Climate Monster, and a few others – and we are also patting ourselves on the back quite vigorously.
Although we like to look beyond our own horizon, we are focusing primarily on the people to whom we, as the newsletter team, also belong: parents with their kids. Therefore, we are offering you “Tips for Kids (and their parents)” across eight pages, featuring the sections READING, LISTENING, PLAYING, and WATCHING. Additionally, there is a bulletin board with tips for exciting museums and exhibitions.
Furthermore, we are dealing with the smallest footprints in the world, we are introducing you to the “Future Images 2045,” and we are showing perspectives for successful climate activism in the first of two parts.
50 NLs are a round number. BUT: For there to be many more issues, our small team urgently needs support. What this could look like? Take a look at the last page – there you will find our heartfelt invitation to get involved.
Wishing you an exciting read, Jörg Weißenborn for the newsletter team

Parents for Future (P4F) /// Germany 07/2026 NEWSLETTER #50 Page 2 www.parentsforfuture.de (P4F) • Newsletter #50 • 07/2026
Dear Parents, three words are enough to answer the most common of all questions. Only you can give this strong answer. We have all heard the question many times before. “Why are you getting involved for the climate? With this politics, with all these crises, what is it all for?” Whoever asks this shows skepticism, may have become cynical, or is genuinely interested. Some underestimate the impact of our engagement, others simply lack insight or personal contact with activists. How do you react to this question? What answer do you give to the ‘Why’?
Since 2019, according to our count, more than 350 Parents groups have been founded throughout the country. Thousands of Parents have become active in their neighborhood, in their region, or nationwide. Everywhere, parents are networking, founding projects and associations, sharing knowledge and resources, and building impact. As the organization and networking team for the For Future Alliance, we have been able to closely follow the impressive development of Parents in cities and rural areas over the years. Of the more than 45 For Future initiatives with hundreds of local groups in our alliance, Parents are today among the largest in terms of membership.
We are incredibly grateful to you for your many important impulses and ideas, for your time and your power with which you enrich and strengthen the movement.
If Parents for Future did not exist yet, one would have to invent them! Because only you can give a very unique and therefore so powerful answer to the question of the ‘Why’ of climate engagement:
“FOR OUR CHILDREN!” If the person you are talking to is then surprised, a conversation may begin in which you ask the counter-question.
“I need your support for the next project of the Parents. Will you help me so that it becomes something big?”
Mathias v. Gemmingen for the organization and networking team in the For-Future Alliance, active since January 2020
GREETING FROM THE FOR-FUTURE ALLIANCE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 50TH ISSUE
THE THREE POWERFUL WORDS OF PARENTS FOR FUTURE
Parents for Future (P4F) /// Germany 07/2026 NEWSLETTER #50 Page 3 www.parentsforfuture.de (P4F)•Newsletter #50•07/2026 Dear Parents for Future!
For over seven years, we have been fighting side by side for just climate protection in Germany. In numerous locations, we repeatedly take to the streets together, protest, and organize jointly. We are grateful for all your support – whether it is painting banners, setting up folders for demonstrations, putting up posters, ...
Together, we stood in the way of RWE in Lützerath, fought against dirty gas drilling on Borkum and in Reichling, and of course, repeatedly put local protest on the agenda throughout the republic. Side by side, we fought for the Climate Protection Act and advocated for a consistent coal phase-out, and now we are advancing the gas phase-out! Time and again, we have set the tone for ambitious climate protection in recent years, regardless of which federal government is in power.
We all feel it; the current situation under Black-Red is frustrating.
Floods, droughts, and extreme heat. The climate crisis is escalating more and more visibly, and meanwhile, the government is becoming increasingly fossil-fuel-oriented. But above all, this means one thing: We are all called upon to continue loudly demanding climate protection. We will not let Friedrich Merz, Katherina Reiche & Co. get away with their fossil fantasies. Even if it is not easy, even if it is not always fun, we will stay the course – hopefully, continuing to do so together with you!

The alliance advocates for the comprehensive and secure implementation of the new EU air quality limit values by 2030 at the latest. In addition, it demands that the even stricter, scientifically based recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) be followed as soon as possible to consistently protect people from the consequences of air pollution.
Parents for Future Germany has joined the alliance in accordance with the BDK decision and is represented by Jörg Weißenborn from the OG Lindau.
The new alliance aims to raise awareness of the consequences of air pollution over the next five years and thereby motivate the necessary measures to be taken to drastically reduce the current – far too high – air pollution.
Jürgen Resch, Federal Managing Director of the DUH, says:
“With the alliance, we are increasing pressure on the federal government, states, and municipalities to finally take action. Anyone who takes clean air seriously must make the new limit values binding earlier, close loopholes, and quickly enact effective measures in transport, heating, agriculture, and industry.” “There are numerous overlaps and important synergies between effective air purification measures, climate protection, health protection, and generationally just policy,” explains Jörg Weißenborn. “Therefore, as Parents for Future, we carry the common message for clean air, health protection, and climate protection, and will bring the perspective of families, children, parents, and generationally just climate protection into the alliance.” Current information at:
right www.duh.de/informieren/saubere-luft/ saubere-luft-durchsetzen/ DUH/P4F BACKGROUND The air in Germany is still too heavily polluted with pollutants. This endangers our health – from the womb to old age. Poor air quality has short-term negative effects on the body and is associated with numerous chronic diseases. According to estimates by the European Environment Agency (EEA), tens of thousands of people die prematurely every year due to particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide in outdoor air. In 2025, the new EU limit values for air pollutants, which will apply from 2030, were still exceeded in many places in Germany. The stricter air quality guideline values of the World Health Organization (WHO), which reflect the current state of scientific knowledge, are not met at almost all monitoring stations in Germany.

Parents for Future (P4F) /// Germany 07/2026 NEWSLETTER #50 Page 8 www.parentsforfuture.de (P4F)•Newsletter #50•07/2026 After we had worked through the extensive (plastic-free) material, we turned to the well-structured game instructions. This admittedly took some time at first. However, once we dared to start playing, we found that the game mechanism is very intuitive and the processes are quickly learned.
E-Mission is a cooperative game in which each player chooses a nation whose emissions must be brought to zero before the last game round ends, the global temperature rises by more than 2 degrees, or the impacts of the climate crisis cause a society to fall apart.
Each nation starts with a fixed "backpack" of emissions of different origins. Changing this status quo for the better is already a challenge in itself. In addition, one or more crises occur in each round, bringing with them a host of negative consequences.
To advance the transition to emission-free societies, hand cards are played, which pursue the theme very consistently. An example: Playing the card "Alternative Aviation Fuels" eliminates part of the emissions but increases the nation's energy demand. For the course of the game, a strategically sensible choice of cards is essential, as many influence each other or require certain prerequisites first in order to exert their effect.
After the card phase comes the emission phase, in which the nations must check how many of their emissions are not bound by card effects, forests, and water bodies. These then cause a gradual rise in the global temperature. The higher the rise, the more frequently the "Global Consequences Die" is used, which has an impact on various tipping points.
After several (unfortunately sometimes futile) attempts to save the climate, my conclusion is that E-Mission is a thematically very convincing and challenging strategy game that retains its appeal even after being played multiple times. I personally find the age recommendation of 10+ a bit daring.

These are the psychological counterpart to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TOGETHER is available as an online version and as a card game.
Duration: 10 minutes to hours-long sessions, Players: 2 to 10, from 14 years onwards Further information can be found here.
CATAN – ENERGY Many know CATAN (formerly: The Settlers of CATAN). The spin-off takes up the classic CATAN game principle but places the island in the 21st century and confronts the players with the modern climate crisis. In addition to classic road and settlement building, power plants are erected to meet energy demand. Players must weigh cheap fossil fuels (which increase pollution) against more expensive renewable energies. If pollution on the island is too high, the game may end prematurely due to an environmental catastrophe.
Duration: 90 minutes, Players: 3 to 4, from 12 years onwards Further information can be found here.
CLIMATE DILEMMA The card game is a cooperative team game for up to 30 people. In small groups, players engage with decision-making questions surrounding climate and sustainability and jointly reflect on their positions. The game is designed to be used with minimal preparation and without technical equipment. It is quickly explained and easy to play, allowing for a playful introduction or the design of an entire class period.
Duration: 30 min, Target audience: from 14 years old. The game is suitable for secondary school levels 1 and 2 of all school types.
