Manchester's LGBTQIA+ heritage deserves public recognition and should be permanently embedded in the city through participatory design.

Through a series of new place signs, it celebrates how LGBTQIA+ communities reclaimed canal infrastructure and Victorian industrial spaces as sites of survival, solidarity, protest, and pride.

The text announces the launch of the LGBTQIA+ Heritage Trail in Manchester. The project was created by volunteers from the Royal Town Planning Institute in collaboration with several organisations. It celebrates hidden stories from the historical Gay Village. The signs show how LGBTQIA+ communities reclaimed canal infrastructure and industrial spaces as sites of survival and solidarity. The trail is in a consultation phase, during which temporary signs are accessible to the public. At ten locations, visitors can discover the signs and share their opinions via QR code. The feedback collected is intended to inform the design of the permanent signs. The project aims to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ heritage of the Village in the long term.
