Greed is a bad trait that prevents a person from sharing the gifts bestowed by Allah with others, thereby keeping them away from salvation; generosity and moderate handling of wealth, on the other hand, lead to well-being.
A person can be greedy not only with their wealth, but also with their knowledge, their love, and their time.
The sermon warns against greed as a bad trait that is condemned in the Quran. Allah grants many people more than they need for their own needs, yet their own ego leads them to be greedy. Greed prevents the sharing of divine gifts with others, strengthens the desire for worldly possessions, and leads to neglecting those in need. The Prophet Muhammad is presented as an exemplary figure of generosity, who himself sought refuge with Allah from greed. Greed is not limited to wealth but is extended to knowledge, love, and time. The text calls for a moderate, generous attitude toward one's own possessions and promises that giving brings blessing. Finally, a hadith is cited warning that the greedy will not enter Paradise, and a supplication is made for protection from the greed of one's own soul.

Dear Muslims!
One of the bad qualities that Allah warns us about in the Quran is stinginess. He says: "…And whoever guards himself against his own stinginess, it will be well for them." 1 With these words, Allah rebukes stinginess and promises salvation to those who are generous.
Dear Believers!
Allah grants many people more than they need for their own requirements. Yet their own ego can lead them to be stingy. Thus, stinginess prevents people from sharing the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon them with others. This intensifies the greed for worldly possessions. The person increasingly directs their striving toward their own benefit and seeks peace and happiness in material wealth, thereby increasingly neglecting the needy in their surroundings. Our Prophet (s) encouraged us to free ourselves from stinginess and to make giving a habit. 2 At the same time, he himself sought refuge with Allah from this bad quality and said: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from stinginess…" 3
Our beloved Prophet (s), who taught his Ummah this supplication, was the most generous among people. 4 When someone asked him for something and he had it available, he gave it to them. 5 He shared what he ate, what he possessed, and what he had in knowledge, and was never selfish. He urged us to guard against stinginess, 6 and gave generously without counting his blessings. 7
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
A person can be stingy not only with their possessions, but also with their knowledge, their love, and their time. Acquiring knowledge for years but not passing it on to others, not giving time to one's parents, or withholding one's love and kind words from one's spouse and children – all of these are different forms of stinginess. Whoever, however, loves the creations and meets them with compassion does not withhold the blessings that their Lord has bestowed upon them from them.
Let us therefore not allow stinginess to dominate our lives. Let us not be afraid to share the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us with others. Let us neither restrict our spending out of stinginess nor be wasteful, but deal with our possessions in a measured way. Let us not forget that our wealth does not decrease through giving, but – like a pruned plant – can bring even more blessing and return to us.
I would like to conclude my sermon with the following Hadith: "Those who cause harm, the stingy, and those who boast of their good deeds will not enter Paradise." 8
O Allah! Make us Your servants who are protected from the stinginess of their own soul and who are generous with their possessions, their knowledge, their time, their love, and their compassion.
Ameen.

Verehrte Muslime!
