As an agent of socialisation, schools are responsible for creating a learning environment that is free from discrimination and conducive to development, one that recognises and protects the gender diversity of all children and young people.

School must be a place where everyone can feel at ease. This is the foundation for healthy personal development and a love of learning.

The text is an announcement of an online seminar for teachers and school social workers on how to deal with trans*, inter, and non-binary children and young people. It justifies the need for the seminar by stating that school must be a place where everyone can feel at ease and that tin* children need particular support. It raises concrete questions from everyday school life, such as how to address students by name, how to handle changing situations, and how to deal with coming-outs. The content covers an introduction to queer identities, lived realities, the rights and duties of schools, and possibilities for implementation. The seminar is offered by pro familia Marburg and the KTD Gießen and is to be accredited by the Hessian Academy for Teachers. It takes place on 26.10.2026 and costs 80 euros per participant. The presenters are Judit Grimm and Christoph Oppenheimer. Registration is by email until 19.10.2026.

Online seminar on dealing with tin* children and young people (tin*: trans*, inter, non-binary) for teachers and school social workers of all school types by pro familia Marburg and KTD Gießen (Competence Centre for Trans* and Diversity) !is still to be accredited by the Hessian Teachers' Academy! School must be a place where everyone can feel at ease. This is the foundation for healthy personality development and the joy of learning. In particular, tin* children and young people face challenges for which they need the support of adults. This is where the socialization institution of school is called upon to create a learning climate that is free of discrimination and promotes development. Thus, various questions arise for schools and teachers, the answers to which require the perspective of trans and non-binary children and young people. From the perspective of school professionals, tasks arise, such as… how does school deal with the wish or even the request of children and young people to be addressed by their self-chosen name in accordance with their gender identity? how do we design changing situations in physical education classes or room assignments on school trips? how do I deal with the need of a student who is planning a coming out in front of the class? what do I do if a student tells me that they are trans*? … In this online seminar, we want to explain the life situation of tin* children and young people and enter into conversation with you about what options you have to respond in a supportive, protective, and development-promoting way to the life reality of tin* children and young people. In addition to professional information, there will also be discussion and exchange. Contents will be: Introduction to the topic of queer identities Life realities of queer children and young people Rights and obligations of schools and educational institutions Implementation of rights and obligations – spaces of possibility for teachers, teams, and institutions Details at a glance: Date: Mon. 26.10.2026 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: €80 per participant Presenters: Judit Grimm (KTD Gießen), Christoph Oppenheimer (pro familia Marburg) Registration: marburg@hessen.profamilia.de Registration deadline: 19.10.2026 Online platform: BigBlueButton Further training offers from KTD can be found here: https://ktd-hessen.org/angebote/ Coming out, Gender diversity, Hesse, KTD, Children and young people, Teachers, School, School social workers, Seminar, Trans* in school, Diversity, Promoting diversity, School institutions
