Fossil capitalism and the energy-intensive expansion of data centres are causing ecological collapse and must be stopped through direct action and collective resistance.

RWE's argumentation is on shaky ground, but support for the accused activists is nevertheless necessary, because a verdict is looming that could intimidate activists far beyond Ende Gelände.

The Ende Gelände newsletter reports on the strategy conference at the System Change Camp in Karlsruhe in August 2026, where the connection between the climate struggle, anti-militarism, and the expansion of data centres was discussed. An interview with the activist Conny provides insights into the mood, organisation, and atmosphere of the camp. The text introduces the Dutch partner collective Geef Tegengas and calls for participation in a mass action in Amsterdam on 6 November 2026. A court case against four activists, who are being sued by RWE for over one million euros in damages, is addressed, and a call is made for solidarity in accompanying the legal process. A dossier by Missy Magazine on heat is recommended. The Dresden local group invites people to an open plenum. As the number of the week, the figure of 31 new data centres in Hesse, which are under construction or in planning, is mentioned.

The Bundesliga is playing, parliament is in session, school has started – the summer is clearly over. The heat has also withdrawn the climate catastrophe from the headlines, and it is only mentioned on the sidelines, for example when it comes to the financial promises of raw materials or new shipping routes that are being freed up thanks to the rapidly melting glaciers at the poles. Ende Gelände and its allies have not forgotten the catastrophe. The heat is coming back, it is still present in other parts of the world, just like floods, soil erosion, and fires. And we must fight to keep resources such as air, water, and soil clean and available. In this newsletter, EG activist Conny gives a retrospective on the strategy conference of Ende Gelände, which took place last August at the System Change Camp in Karlsruhe. It continues with a Dutch partner alliance of Ende Gelände as well as an upcoming court trial against some EG activists in Mönchengladbach. And to conclude, there is a number that recently made us think. Have fun reading – let's go, here we go, Ende Gelände. CONTENTS "Conny, how was it in Karlsruhe" – The System Change Camp in August 2026 EG Partners #2: Geef Tegengas Trial in Mönchengladbach in November 2026 Heat Dossier in Missy Magazine Support in Dresden and elsewhere Number of the Week 1. "Conny, how was it in Karlsruhe?" From August 13–25, 2026, the System Change Camp took place in Karlsruhe. Ende Gelände activist Conny was there and also attended the 2-day strategy conference of Ende Gelände: Conny, how many times have you been to the System Change Camp (SCC)? This is now the third time in a row: Erfurt 2024, Frankfurt 2025, and now 2026 Karlsruhe. How long were you there this time? Eight days. What is the mood like at Ende Gelände right now? Some people are still very exhausted, but others already have a great desire to engage with the new topics. In fact, it seems to me that many have drawn new motivation from the mass action at the end of May in the Ruhr area. A 2-day strategy conference of Ende Gelände took place at the System Change Camp. What topics were discussed there? First of all, about the connections between different topics, i.e. whether the focus of Ende Gelände should continue to be solely on gas or whether we should link gas with two other topics, more specifically with antimilitarism and/or with data centers and artificial intelligence – both areas that cause significant climate damage. In addition, it was about the fundamental question of what structure we want to work in, e.g. how often a mass action should take place. How can I imagine an Ende Gelände strategy conference? How does it work? We had our own tent at the SSC, in which we could gather. A small group of four to five people had prepared the conference very well and also alternated in taking on the moderation. At the beginning there were then two very interesting inputs, one about the book All In by Sinan Eden and Mariana Rodrigues and a talk by Julio Linares about the global financial system and petrodollar capitalism. Subsequently, the dossiers and debate contributions were presented, which had been developed in advance by small groups and individuals, each with a focus on the topics of gas, antimilitarism, and AI/data centers. There were also contributions on individual tactics, e.g. considerations on how to extend blockades or to disrupt shareholders' meetings. After that, we assigned ourselves to the various topics in small groups and discussed for several hours, wrote comments, developed proposals for changes. At the end, everyone came together again and discussed the results in the large group. And in the evening we then ate Küfa together and hung around at the crêpes stand. What was your highlight at the strategy conference? On one of the two evenings, some people stayed in the tent longer, a few queued up for food and brought something for everyone who was still there. Then some played cards or just talked, some went to the silent disco. That was somehow a special atmosphere. All in all, it was two very intensive content days and I had the feeling that the people were involved with a lot of motivation. Oh right, and a highlight were definitely the WUPs! The what? The WUPs, i.e. the warm-up games. I remember one where everyone had to make grunting noises! Was there anything at this SSC that was completely different from the other two camps you were at? For me, the biggest difference was that I was not only engaged in my EG local group, but for the first time involved at alliance level, so I encountered other people. There was also a lot of space to meet new people and chat with them. Do you want to add anything? This System Change Camp was also unusual because for the first time the Haufen concept was tried out. For this purpose, the various working groups restructured themselves into so-called Haufen, met every morning and distributed tasks, so there was e.g. a collectivization Haufen, which took care of childcare, the contact pavilion, the info point, or a technology Haufen, an interpretation Haufen, etc. I believe there are different views on how well it worked or whether the concept would be applied again. In any case, it led to people discussing more than usual the tasks that need to be distributed for such a camp to function. Thank you for the conversation, Conny! PROFILE CONNY (early/mid 20s, pronouns: she/their) How long have you been activist? Since Fridays For Future grew big. How long have you been with Ende Gelände? For about two years. Why Ende Gelände? I was rather socialized into the climate justice movement on the side and kept coming into contact with Ende Gelände from a distance. When I then moved to a city where there was an EG local group, that was the familiar option. What I generally find very exciting are the many perspectives and possibilities for shaping things. What in one sentence is the motivation for your engagement? There are many political struggles that occupy me. The focus on climate justice grew rather by chance, but I find it sensible to be in a movement and from there to further deal with other topics. What in the activist work makes you happy? I feel like I'm part of something bigger. And of course the relationships with comrades and learning from one another. A recommendation for a book, a film, a podcast? Oh, that's hard without having a specific person in mind. And since everyone already knows "The Story of the Coming Worlds," I'll leave that unanswered for now. The System Change Camp emerged from the climate justice movement and takes place annually to provide a space for encounter, networking, content-based further education, skillshares, strategic discussions, and cultural programming. Its own claim is to be, among other things, anticapitalist, antiracist, anticolonial, antiauthoritarian, antiableist, and antipatriarchal. 2. EU Partners #2: Geef Tegengas In the second episode of the series on international partner alliances of Ende Gelände, the Ende Gelände International Working Group introduces the Dutch collective Geef Tegengas: Geef Tegengas (Dutch for "Say No") is a collective that seeks to dismantle fossil capitalism, extractivism, and militarization through direct actions. The collective was founded in the early 2020s in Rotterdam, the center of the fossil fuel and shipping economy of the Netherlands. Their direct actions are meant to expose injustices by strategically disabling key nodes of the system and thus disrupting the structures of exploitation and ecological collapse at critical moments and places. They understand their actions as self-defense of the communities, cultures, and ecosystems they belong to and that are close to their hearts. On November 6, 2026, the next mass action of Geef Tegengas will take place in Amsterdam. It is directed against the plans of Microsoft to build a large data center in Amsterdam, which is supposed to consume as much electricity annually as all Amsterdam households combined and will further expand the power of fascist, imperialist tech corporations. Ende Gelände, which combines its fight for climate justice with the fight against the energy-intensive expansion of computing capacity, calls for participation in the action of Geef Tegengas on November 6, 2026, in Amsterdam. 3. Trial in Mönchengladbach: The accused are few, but we are all meant! On Friday, November 13, 2026, at 10 o'clock, an important court trial will take place at the Mönchengladbach Regional Court: The energy company RWE is suing four activists who were identified in 2021 during the blockade of the Neurath lignite power plant as part of a small group action, for over one million euros in damages. RWE's argumentation is on shaky ground, but support for the accused activists is still necessary, because a verdict threatens to intimidate activists far beyond Ende Gelände. To prevent this, public pressure is needed. Therefore, we would like to send a strong sign of solidarity and mobilize many people to be there. Come by the Mönchengladbach Regional Court on November 13 itself Call for solidarity in accompanying the trial on social media and other channels Post solidarity videos, which can also be linked to other relevant topics Organize joint travel to the trial date All creative and other solidarity actions Those who need more information or wish to exchange ideas can write to: bonn@ende-gelaende.org And: For legal questions, there are contacts and information here https://www.ende-gelaende.org/rechtliches/ 4. Heat Dossier in Missy Magazine The queer-feminist Missy Magazine has dedicated a 14-page dossier in its issue 04/2026 to the rising heat and its consequences. What does heat actually do to people and their environment? How do we feel when it gets hot, and who is particularly affected by the heat? And above all: How can we confront it? The issue can be ordered here. 5. Support – In Dresden and elsewhere The Dresden local group is hosting an Open Plenum, where all interested people can come without any prerequisites: When? 12.11 6 PM Where? Upon request via our email dresden@ende-gelaende.org or via Instagram @ende_gelaende_dresden And for those who are not currently in the area around Dresden: The greatest support is if you organize yourself with Ende Gelände. Only when there are many motivated people are we able to realize large action days and camps. Here you will find information and contact options for our local groups. We can also always make good use of donations (a recurring payment helps us the most, regardless of how high or low the amount is). In addition, it helps if you share the newsletter, follow us on various social media channels, and of course come to the next action days. Number of the Week 31 In Hesse alone, there are currently 31 new data centers under construction or in the planning stage (and these are only those of which the public is aware, thanks to this map, which was created jointly by Algorithm Watch, the Heiße-Luft-Kollektiv, FragDenStaat, and Leitmotiv). Since there is no official reporting office for new data centers, citizens here have the opportunity to have planned data centers in their region added to the map on their own initiative.

Die was? Seit Fridays For Future groß geworden ist. W as a n der aktivistischen Arbeit macht dich glücklich?
