The Word of God works salvifically by showing people their own sinfulness and leading them to Jesus through humiliation and correction, which is vital in times of moral decline.
The Word of God will always bring you back to the blood of Jesus. If we are faithful, he will also be faithful and will be just, taking all unrighteousness away from us.
The preacher Rob Dingman delivers a sermon on the Second Epistle to Timothy, chapter 4, and emphasizes the urgency of proclaiming the Word of God. He warns that in the last days people will no longer endure sound teaching and will turn to false teachers. The central message is that the Word of God humbles the believer by showing them their own sinfulness and failures. This process of self-examination and correction is described as painful but necessary in order to become like God. The preacher uses personal anecdotes, such as an experience at the checkout counter, to illustrate the recognition of one's own inadequacy. He emphasizes that true humility consists in looking away from oneself and looking to Jesus, who humbled himself. The text calls for breaking through this slow process of falling away from the truth by consistently hearing and applying Scripture.

Hello Mom, are you there? Mom. Huh? Mom, are you there? Americans? So, when the Americans know they are being filmed and recorded, they always say: "Hello, Mama." Microphone check. So, that was my microphone check. I am very grateful that I am allowed to be here this morning. I would also like to pray once more before we begin. So, let us pray. Thank you, heavenly Father, that you are here with us today. You said it, I will be with you forever. We are so grateful for that. We want to remember all the good things you do for us. And we want to thank you. We ask you, Lord, that you bless this time of worship here for us. We remember that man does not live by bread alone, Lord, but by every word that comes from your mouth. So we ask you, Lord, that you give us life this morning. Open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts, Lord. Fill us with your Holy Spirit. Help us to get to know you more closely. We thank you, Lord, in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. This morning I would like to show you something that helps you to stay on the right path. It will lead you directly to the salvation of the dead, the resurrection of the dead, resurrection from the dead. And it is so easy and simple to understand that you will think I am joking here. But I am completely serious and I took this from the Apostle Paul here. He was very serious about this, because his death was before his eyes. In his writings he warns Timothy how bad it will become in the church. In the last days people will make bad decisions and will be lost. So. How do you stay on the right path? And the answer to that is that you do not allow anything to come between you and the Word of God. We are in the second letter to Timothy, chapter 4. Timothy 4:1 to 8. I therefore urge you solemnly before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead, for his appearing and his kingdom. Preach the word, be instant in season and out of season. Rebuke, reprove, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But you, be sober in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved his appearing. You must also understand the context here for this exhortation of Paul to Timothy. At the beginning of the third chapter of 2 Timothy, Paul says here that terrible times will come upon the church. In verse 2 of chapter 3, in the second letter to Timothy it says: "For men shall be lovers of their own selves, and then there is a very long list, to see how evil they will become." [clears throat] In verse 5 it then ultimately says, they have the outward form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. Outwardly they appear quite good, but inwardly they are against God. Paul said to Timothy: "You have followed me in all ways, which means nothing other than living for Jesus with a mission, which also means enduring in difficult times. And in verses 16 and 17, Paul now shows Timothy the secret of God-pleasing. And it is the Word of God. The Word
God does something that nothing else can do. It trains you to become a person of God. The Word of God makes you pleasing to God. That is the context in which Paul gives Timothy this really important task. Preach the Word. Recognize that you are in the presence of God and Jesus Christ His Son. Paul wants Timothy to take this really very seriously. Here in verse 2, chapter 4, he wants Timothy to proclaim the Word, contend for it, examine, rebuke, and exhort. That sounds as if Timothy would be shouting at them and perhaps also hitting them a little on the head with his gospel hammer. Do you hear? But that is not what he is saying, because when you preach the Word, the Word will do it. I just read that, that is what it accomplishes. A person can stand up, can shout at you, and can tell you all kinds of things. Okay. Okay. Okay. But when God speaks to you, you must listen. It is not simply the opinion of some guy. God speaks directly to your heart. And you know, you are accountable to God. Now I will show you how the Word of God works. Paul said that the Word means doctrine. It is true history. It is the truth about God and about people. Truth also with regard to the future. It is the truth about heaven, about hell, and the coming judgment that will come. It is also the truth about how one is saved from the coming wrath. This doctrine here, this preaching here is not just some religious thing. That is what reality is made of, the substance out of which reality is made. All things come from God. All things were created for God. All things are for God. That is a truth, whether you believe it or not. You can say, yes, very interesting, but I am not going to follow that. I am not going to obey that. All things come from God, are created for God, and are made for Him. Then the Word of God does this interesting thing. It exorts you. It tells you, you are wrong there. You can try to reconcile your Bible with your life and then tell yourself, one of the two things here does not agree with the other. So, that is not very pleasant to find out that you yourself are wrong, but it is valuable. If you have never recognized that you are wrong, you can also never be justified. Otherwise you will think, I am a nice person and we are all nice. And it was those nice people who crucified Christ. So we must find out when and where we are wrong, but then the Word corrects you and lets you be justified again. The Word of God will always bring you back to the blood of Jesus. If we are faithful, He will also be faithful and will be just, taking all unrighteousness from us. John 1 verse 9. He, John 1 verse 9. Okay. Write it down. Write it down. Isn't that interesting how you find out how wrong you are? And then God says, "Well, come on, let's make this right." Isn't that interesting to recognize how wrong you are? And then God tells you: "Come on, come on, let's go. Let's set this right." That is not a one-time story, but that is a process and it is there to train you. And no one stands well at the very beginning of their transformation with Jesus. You must learn how to do that. If you do not submit to this training, you will never come to know God. You will not see the face of God. That is not just some small process, but that is your life. That is why Paul tells Timothy here: "Teach the Word, because otherwise the people will be lost. They will chase after and run after something that is not true. That is not such a quick decision. No one
wakes up in the morning and says: "Hey, I have a great idea and I'm just going to throw away the truth and I'm just going to get lost. I want to believe in legends. That's fun. [laughter] You don't do that. That is a very slow, uh, falling away. Yes, you don't directly notice that it's happening. Everything is calm. And if you would feel anything, then you would think, oh, something is wrong. But you feel nothing. Everything is great. Drifting begins doctrine. This, this quiet falling away then happens when you avoid the good teacher. They will not endure the sound doctrine. This process, you must endure it. You must even suffer under this process, as I already said, that is no fun. When you find out that you are wrong, that is painful, embarrassing. That is exactly what Hebrews chapter 12 speaks about. In 11, it says: "Now no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." So, you want to follow Jesus, but then you make a mistake, you sin. And then you tell yourself, thank you for forgiving me. I will never do that again. And then you do it again and then you say this time, now it's serious. I will never do that again. And then it happens again. And now you get a little nervous, Lord. If you really forgive me just this one more time, then I promise you that I will never do it again. And then it happens to you again. And now you are already beyond nervous and tell yourself, I can't do it. I am not making a single step forward. I am wrong. I am wrong. I am lying wrong. That is true. You are actually wrong. The fact is. Oh, you are a monster of inadequacies. Bingo. You find out who you actually are. And what is happening here now is that the Word of God humbles you. I used to be a really nice person, but nowadays I am a terrible person. I once told a cashier in the grocery store. So, I went to the register, was just about to go there and someone then zipped past me and the cashier saw that that just happened and I did not react to it. And then, when I then came to the cashier, she said, that was terrible, what that guy just did, right? And then I told her, well, the fact is that I am also a terrible person. And she had no idea how to deal with that. No, no, no. You are very nice. No, I am a terrible person. She had no idea what to do with that now. But what the Word of God teaches you is that you look away from yourself and that you look to Jesus, who is the only one who can save you. So you must practice that, to accept that, so that you no longer think about yourself at all, but that you think about Jesus. That means nothing other than humility. And that is the true character of God, because God does not think of Himself. He is able to be the Most High and can leave all of this behind, in order to become a baby, lower even than the angels, in order to be able to save people. That is why the angels, the angels worshipped when Jesus was born. That was not practiced. That was very spontaneous. Wow. And I say wow. Because I don't know if I wan go that low, because I don't know if I would have really gone that low. He humbled Himself more than we are. That is terrifying. But only God can do that. Word of God making you like Jesus. And the Word of God actually makes you like Jesus. You need humility. But people, it is very easy to say, I am fed up. I am fed up with reading the Bible and not getting anywhere. I am fed up with all the difficulties. It is lost time and energy, because I
I can't make a single step forward anywhere. So here a gap opens up, so that something else can come in between you and the Word of God. And all of a sudden this distance arises there between you and the Word. And this works because it tickles your ears. It's fun and it's interesting. You learn things, if it weren't interesting, then it wouldn't be fun. And you know perfectly well that the thing that is now stepping in between you and the Word of God, it isn't even malicious. But whatever it is, it is not the Bible. There are all kinds of things that go over the Bible, but they are not the Bible. There are commentaries, podcasts, you can listen to audiobooks or read books. There's even AI. Good translation. Can even be about the Bible, but not the Bible. They can even be about the Bible, but they are not the Bible. And what they do is, they take up so much space that they push the Bible aside. Now the moment has come where the good becomes the enemy of the best. What this distance causes is, it awakens a hunger for more afterwards. And the emphasis shifts from a relationship with God to a search for wisdom and knowledge and yes, so you read your Bible and you read something that confuses you and you tell yourself, what does that mean? So if you stay with God for 10 years, then he will tell you that. But here is now the temptation that we say, but we want to have the answer now. Here is this podcast, that said, that says, that has the answers to that. So you chase after the answers. Now you have it, now you know it. It's fun. What else do they have there? So, the next podcast you listen to, no, that's not so interesting. Switch. This guy here, he sounds very interesting. He even knows the names of the Nephilim. That's very interesting. But you yourself have the ability to switch that on or off. You have control over it. You chase after what you want. In principle a legend is nothing other than an answer. Why does the world look the way it looks? That's the reason why. Back then, way back at the beginning there was nothing else but heaven and earth. And they came together and had children and those are the gods. And the gods control different things. One for the rivers, one for the mountains. You find the god who controls what you want. You offer the right offerings, they bless you. That's how it works. That's how life is. It is an answer. Information sounds good to me. It looks as if it works. Let's just keep going like this. So, there are also modern legends and they are all around us. The problem with them is that none of them is true. in the following way. Conspiracy theories could be true, but that will not change your life. Very many of these pieces of information are interesting, but they do not change your life. No podcast can make you more like Jesus. It simply doesn't have the power in it. There is a point where all legends collapse in on themselves and no longer work. And you know that all things, all the things you have heard, are useless. And this place is called the Valley of the Shadow of Death. You all know it from Psalm 23? This, this, this passage is not talking about death. but it is talking about a place that is as dark as death. So you find yourself in a situation where there is no light, a situation in which simply the ground appears endless. Everything comes mixed up. There is no hope. The sun is shining, but in your heart it is as dark as death. You don't know what you should do. You don't know where you should go. you can't even see your hand in front of your eyes. It can be an illness. It can be a matter within your family,
society or your job. But all of a sudden, the lights go out. Information and answers accomplish nothing in this darkness. All the interesting things seem stupid and useless in this place. Knowledge and answers cannot save you. And though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. And you suddenly realize that God does not take away the darkness. I don't need light. And you suddenly realize, I don't need [snort] light. I need, rather I need [snort] God, because God can save me. I don't need any answers, rather I need God. One day a man came to my congregation who knew all the answers. Not only that, but I believe he was the fastest gun in the whole West. Wherever a question came up, he had the answer. And you notice, he didn't come up with it himself. He got it from the podcast. [snort] He read a book and he had everything together to get started. My Bible studies are very interactive. And at any time people can contribute something. And that's what this guy did too. I said something and then interesting. I said something else. That's very informative. You know? That went on for a while and at some point I noticed he became quieter. I thought, wow, that's great. And later he told me once, why? He said, I kept hearing what the Bible says. And I realized, I know a lot of answers, but I don't know God. People, that is a big difference. Knowing God gave Paul peace toward the end of his life. He is here in prison. He knows exactly that he will die. He writes this here because Timothy may not make it in time. That's why he says here, please give this to Timothy, in case I don't make it. But we notice that Paul does not look forward to death, rather he looks forward to the resurrection of the dead. He looks out, keeps watch for the glory, immortality. He looks forward to that. He looks forward to righteousness. He goes, but he does not go into death, rather he goes into eternal life. When you will once be raised from the dead, every question will be answered to you. You will then know, why did that happen? Why did that difficult situation happen back then? I didn't do that at all. Why did that happen? I thought that would cause this, but it caused that. But when you will once have been raised from the dead, you will see it all. And then you will say to yourself: "Oh God, you are a genius." You preserved me. You made me You made me into the person you wanted me to be and I have come here. I am exactly what you wanted. I will thank you now forever, because now I understand it and all you demanded of me was to trust you. And I was so stupid. But at least I believed you. And then you will dance a victory dance. It looks approximately like this. I'm not going to do that now. [laughter] So. See, the resurrection is what will satisfy you forever. That is the only or the single, single, most important goal of your life. You want to live in this way so that you will be raised from the dead. Paul says here, follow me in these things. Stay on the path. The Word will keep you on course. Follow me to the resurrection of the dead. Now here is my recommendation for this morning. That nothing comes between you and your Bible. That is your top priority. Even more than your food, because man does not live by bread alone, but by every, every word that comes from his mouth. Now I will talk about how you make the Bible your top priority. Some of you may not have a regular
Time on the Word daily. Today I am going to decide to read the Bible every day of my life. Understand why you read the Bible, because you want God to train you in righteousness. You read it because you want to know the truth. You want to find out when you are wrong. You read it because you want to stand righteous before God. You read it because you want to be transformed into the image of God. You read the Bible because you want to be raised from the dead. Those are good reasons. You know, every morning I get up and say, "Lord, here I am. What do you want to show me?" And I firmly believe that God wants to show me something every single day. Knowing God means eternal life. I want to have eternal life. Don't you? So, if you stop learning, then you start dying. I don't want to die. In the same way, you slowly fall away from God. People wonder, God, where have you gone? He hasn't gone anywhere. You are the one who left the course. Now I want to present to you a very simple plan for reading the Bible. Actually, it's two things. First, so the first thing is, throw away your Bible in one year. The one-year, the one-year Bible. Okay. Yes, exactly. So these one-year Bibles, where you read through the Bible in one year, those are the [laughter] this is being recorded. Broadcast. Great. So, those are the Bibles that come from the devil. I'll tell you why. Because you're always behind and the devil stands there and says, "You failure." So, he literally uses the Bible to knock you down. I believe that comes from the devil. I'm going to tell you something now that is very simple. Read two chapters in the New Testament in the morning. In the evening, two chapters from the Old Testament. If you do that, the entire Old Testament within one year. And the New Testament even twice. Let's say you do that for 10 years. Then you will have read the entire Old Testament ten times and the New Testament even 20 times. And I guarantee you that you will come to know God better and I promise you that it will change your life. People, one more time, very clear, I am not against podcasts and commentaries, but they do not come first. Would you rather kiss your wife? Would you rather kiss your wife or read a book about how to kiss your wife? So the right answer to that is, so I first have to listen to a podcast about that. The right a

Hallo Mutti, bist du da? Mutti. Hä? Mutti, bist du da? Americans? Microphone check. Also, lass uns beten. So. Johannes 1 Vers 9. Er Johannes 1 Vers 9. Okay. Schreib es auf. Schreib es auf. Isn't that interesting how you find out how wrong you are? And then God says, "Well, come on, let's make this right." Und Gott sagt dir dann: "Come on, komm los, geht's. Wow. Und ich sag wow. Because I don't know if I wan go that low, weil ich weiß nicht, ob ich wirklich so tief gegangen wäre. Word of God making you like Jesus. Can even be about the Bible, but not the Bible. Also läufst du den Antworten hinterher. Du hast dem hinterher, was du möchtest. Lasst uns doch einfach so weitermachen. Du weißt nicht, was du tun sollst. I don't need light. Ich habe was anderes gesagt. [gelächter] So.
