Those who donate from pure wealth in the way of God attain true virtue and are blessed by Allah with blessings and repayment, which is demonstrated by concrete examples from the community.

Sincere virtue only reveals itself when one is willing to give from what is dear and precious to oneself.

The text summarizes a Friday sermon by Mirza Masroor Ahmad that deals with the topic of financial sacrifice in the way of God. Quranic verses serve as the basis, calling on believers to donate from what is dear to them and promising that donated wealth will be fully repaid. The line of reasoning links the theological statement with the conviction that Allah protects donating believers from difficulties and provides them with means. As evidence, five concrete incidents from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are cited, in which donors received unexpected financial blessings after their sacrifice. The text emphasizes that it is precisely people with modest incomes who take the lead in financial sacrifice. The core message is that true virtue only becomes visible when one gives from what is precious to oneself. The contemporary relevance lies in the currency of the Waqf-e-Jadid initiative and the description of contemporary examples from various countries.

In the Friday Sermon of 9 January 2026, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba) spoke about financial sacrifice on the path of God. His Holiness (aba) recited the following verse from the Holy Quran at the beginning: "You will never attain true righteousness until you spend out of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah is well aware of it." (3:93) His Holiness (aba) explained that the First Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community once explained that the words "out of that which you love" here refer to one's own property and wealth. The Second Caliph added that one cannot attain true and perfect righteousness by only giving that which one has no real interest in or which means nothing to one. Sincere righteousness is only shown when one is willing to give from that which is dear and valuable to oneself. His Holiness (aba) explained that no wealth accompanies a person after death – everything ultimately remains with God. It is precisely for this reason that one should seize the opportunity and use one's wealth in the path of God while one is able to do so. He also reminded of the verse: "So fear Allah as much as you are able, and listen and obey, and spend: it will be better for you yourselves. And whoever is saved from his own greed – those are the successful." (64:17) It is not greed, but giving that leads to closeness to God and His pleasure. In this time, as the Promised Messiah (as) explained, financial means are indispensable for spreading the true message of Islam. Whoever gives for the faith benefits not only himself but all of humanity. His Holiness (aba) went on to say that it is reported that Allah told the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) that one should "store" one's wealth with God, for there it can neither burn nor drown nor be stolen. What one gives to Allah is returned to one in full when one needs it. The Holy Quran says: "And whatever good you spend, it is for yourselves, and you only spend in order to seek Allah's pleasure. And whatever good you spend, it will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged." (2:273) Most Ahmadis understand this truth and openly give in the path of Allah. The Promised Messiah (as) himself had expressed his wonder at the dedication with which people of his community sacrifice for God. The same spirit is also alive in the Community today. His Holiness (aba) noted that it is often members with modest or middle incomes who particularly lead in financial sacrifice. They are convinced that Allah will return to them what they have given and will bless them in this world and the next. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) once said that even a single date that someone gives for Allah from pure, honest wealth is accepted by God and blessed and multiplied. However, the condition is that the wealth must be pure and not acquired unlawfully. The Promised Messiah (as) explained, on the basis of a Quranic verse, that God protects those who give in His path from difficulties and provides them with means in unimaginable ways. Whoever places complete trust in Allah is showered with blessings. His Holiness (aba) then described some incidents from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community: A woman in Indonesia worked as a part-time teacher and earned very little. She still had an outstanding amount from her Waqf-e-Jadid pledge [Waqf-e-Jadid: name of an initiative within the community] and had some savings that she had actually set aside for herself. Although she urgently needed the money, she decided to donate it in the way of God. Shortly thereafter, she received a bonus from her school completely unexpectedly, was admitted to a government support program, and also received her long-overdue teacher's number. She was convinced that all of this were blessings of her sacrifice. A woman in Kenya fulfilled her Waqf-e-Jadid pledge by literally emptying her pockets. A few days later, she received money from her daughter as well as two cows from her son-in-law. Her initial sacrifice of 400 shillings was surpassed many times over by blessings. A man in Australia increased his contribution from 1,000 to 7,000 dollars. The next day, he unexpectedly received 12,000 dollars from an insurance claim that he had known nothing about. A man in India first settled his Waqf-e-Jadid pledge, although he had other urgent expenses. Shortly thereafter, he received a long-blocked sum of money that he had not expected so soon. A woman in Kyrgyzstan donated from her bonus despite many of her own needs. Still within the same month, her salary was increased by 40%, she received another bonus, and her previously not very successful side business suddenly began to yield twice as much profit. His Holiness (aba) mentioned that the 68th fiscal year of Waqf-e-Jadid is completed and that the 69th year has now begun. To conclude, His Holiness (aba) prayed that Allah may enable us to continue to joyfully bring financial sacrifices and to grow in faith.
