True fasting in Ramadan consists not only in one's own abstinence but in the active material and emotional help for those in need, which is enabled through institutional donation channels.

That is precisely why, dear siblings, it is our duty to knock on these doors! For our exalted Lord makes it clear that in our possession there is also a share destined for those in need.

The text is a sermon by DITIB that marks the beginning of the second part of the month of Ramadan and calls the faithful to solidarity. It reminds of religious practices such as fasting, Quran recitation, and prayer, but above all emphasizes the social responsibility toward those in need. The sermon contrasts one's own prosperity with the distress of orphans, the elderly, and the sick, who depend on help. It highlights the obligation to close this gap through Fitre, Zakat, and Sadaqa. DITIB presents its relief work in 30 countries and in earthquake-affected areas as the institutional framework for these donations. The text concludes with a hadith that describes sharing as the path to divine salvation. The address is directed at the local community to motivate it toward concrete action and giving.

You have brothers and sisters who need you! (06.03.2026) Elhamdulillah, we have already left behind the first half of the blessed month of Ramadan. May Allah enable us to utilize the remaining time in the right manner. May Ramadan, which is always welcome to us, also depart from us with satisfaction. May Ramadan become one of the most beautiful witnesses of our faith. Brothers and sisters! Dear believers! When we think of Ramadan, many beautiful things come to mind; above all, fasting, and with fasting Taqwa (God-consciousness) and patience. We think of the Quran, the Word of Allah – of the Muqabele and the recitations of the entire Quran. We think of the blessing of Sahur, the joy of Iftar, and the special atmosphere of the Tarawih prayers. Ramadan means community, cohesion, and brotherhood. The month of Ramadan reminds us of Fitre as thanks for being able to experience this month. And we think of our Zakat, which we give with joy in Ramadan to receive an even greater share of its blessing. Yet amidst all these beauties, we should above all also think of those who are eagerly waiting for our support – of the sorrowful hearts that look forward to Ramadan with hope. For Ramadan does not only mean feeling one’s own hunger. It means relieving the hunger of others and making their worries our own. Brothers and sisters! Thank Allah, many of us can fast without having to worry about what they will eat for Iftar. We sit at richly laid tables with diverse gifts. But unfortunately, we sometimes forget that there are many brothers and sisters who depend on a warm soup or a helping hand. Brothers and sisters! Let us not forget: There are people who await Ramadan with even greater hope and longing than we do. There are orphans, people who have no one around them, and those in need. There are people who, out of shame, ask no one for help and only inform Allah of their distress. There are elderly people who have no one to prepare a warm meal in their home. There are many who are tested by illness, poverty, or hardship and are waiting for someone to knock on their door. It is precisely for this reason, dear brothers and sisters, that it is our duty to knock on these doors! For our exalted Lord makes it clear that a share for the needy is also destined in our possession.1 Brothers and sisters! How, then, do Fitre, Zakat, Sadaqa, and our donations reach the needy? Let us be reassured: Elhamdulillah, the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DİTİB) has been serving in this area for over forty years. We at DITIB work with great dedication side by side with the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation. Within the framework of our current aid campaign under the motto “You have brothers and sisters who need you!”, your donations will be forwarded to those in need in 30 different countries as well as to people in earthquake-affected areas. Your support is transformed into food packages on a family’s stove, into the blessing of a meal for breaking the fast, and into the grateful prayer of a person in need. With shopping vouchers, we help people in acute distress, and with nice clothes for the festive days, we bring smiles to the faces of children without relatives. If you too wish to be part of the supplications of those in need, you can personally hand over your donations against a receipt to our religious representatives and the boards of the mosque communities. It is also possible to send your Fitre, Zakat, and other donations by bank transfer or via the digital donation system. I conclude my words with the glad tidings of our Prophet (s), who proclaimed sharing as the path to salvation: “Whoever fulfills the needs of his brother, Allah will also fulfill his needs.”2 The DITIB Preaching Commission Sources: 1 Quran, Zariyat, 51/19. 2 Muslim, Birr, 58. 2026-03-06 All rights reserved.
