"Prophet's Birthday: Mewlid en-Nebī" (13.09.2024) Dear Believers! The exalted Allah sent prophets to guide people to the right path.1 The last2 of these prophets was Muhammad (s), who was sent3 as a mercy to all of humanity. The believers love him deeply and look forward to his companionship in Paradise. One of the central tenets of faith in Islam is the belief that Muhammad (s) is the last messenger of Allah.4 Following him means attaining Allah's favor, love, and forgiveness. The exalted Allah says regarding this: "(O Muhammad!) Say: 'If you love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, for Allah is forgiving and merciful.'"5 My brothers and sisters! According to the majority opinion, our Prophet was born on the 12th day of the month of Rabiʿu l-ewwel.6 On the occasion of his birth, the blessed Mewlid Night is observed. Each year, a particular attribute of the Prophet is highlighted. This makes it possible to understand him even better within the framework of the events during the week of the blessed birth of the Prophet. The motto of this year's Mewlid Week, which will be observed in the mosques of the Turkish-Islamic Union of Religious Affairs (DITIB) from September 15 to 21, is: "Our Prophet and Character Formation." Islam strives to create societies of people with strong character and thereby to build a peaceful world. Come and let us do something good for ourselves. Let us begin with this day to learn about the life of our Prophet. Let us bring beauty to our lives by adopting the most beautiful noble character traits7 of our Prophet. He was known for his simple and modest way of life. Let us also stay away from luxury and arrogance. With his courtesy and sensitivity, he touched the hearts of people. Let us also be sensitive in our attitudes and actions. He approached people with mercy and care. Let us also be merciful toward our surroundings. He was known for his kind words and his kind face. Let us also not hurt anyone with our words and not wound anyone with our gazes. He was an exemplary family man, an exemplary merchant, an exemplary leader, and an exemplary friend. Let us likewise transfer the principles we have learned from our Prophet into our homes, into our workplaces, and into our era. How beautifully our Prophet expressed it in one of his sermons: "The truest of words is the Book of Allah; the most beautiful of attitudes and actions are the attitudes and actions of Muhammad…"8 May the exalted Allah make us into people who follow the beautiful path of Muhammad Mustafa. May the blessed Night of the Prophet's Birth (Mewlid) to be observed tomorrow evening be an occasion for all of humanity to adopt a pleasant attitude, a refined identity, and a good character.
