In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
Two blessings in which many people are defrauded: health and leisure.
Health – Both a Blessing and a Trust
(22.08.2025)
One of the most valuable gifts that Allah bestows upon us is health. Health means that a person is in a state of complete well-being, both physically, mentally, and socially. In the hadith I recited at the beginning of the sermon, our Prophet (s) points us to two blessings whose value we often ignore: one is health, the other is leisure.[1]
Dear brothers and sisters!
Health is a great blessing,[2] so let us appreciate its value. It is a trust for which we will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment,[3] so let us carefully preserve this trust. Healing comes solely from Allah, the Exalted.[4] However, as servants, we have certain responsibilities. First, we must take necessary measures to avoid falling ill and to protect our health. Should we fall ill, let us – as our Prophet recommended – promptly seek treatment[5] and do everything to regain our health.
Dear brothers and sisters!
To be healthy people, we should ensure that our food and drinks are halal (permissible) and pure.[6] We should always check the contents of the products we buy. We should not mindlessly consume everything and in excess. We should eat a balanced and healthy diet. Let us follow the example of our Prophet and fill one part of the stomach with food, one part with drink, and leave one part empty.[7] Let us not sit at the table unless we are hungry, and let us not rise completely overfilled. We should not live to eat, but eat to live. Let us stay away from everything that harms our body.
Dear brothers and sisters!
To maintain our health, we must also be careful regarding hygiene. We should keep our bodies clean. This includes washing our hands before and after eating, and also paying attention to our oral and dental hygiene. For a healthy life, we must also pay attention to regulated sleep. The day is designated for work and exertion, while the night is for sleep and rest.[8] So that we may begin the day fresh and fit, we should heed the recommendation of our Prophet and seek rest after the night prayer.[9] Furthermore, we must not neglect sports for a healthy life. As the Messenger of Allah also advised,[10] we should engage in sports that benefit our body and take time for activities that give us strength and vitality. We should at least make it a habit to take regular walks daily.
Beloved believers!
Man is a special being, consisting of body and soul. Therefore, we should devote the same care we give to our physical health to our mental health. Let us purify our souls with the expression of repentance (Tawba) and the seeking of forgiveness (Istighfar). Let us attain mental peace through the five daily ritual prayers. Let us illuminate our hearts with supplications and the remembrance of Allah. Let us always maintain a strong connection to our exalted Creator. Let us not forget that Allah is always with us.[11] To banish sorrow and worries from our lives, we should make the Quranic verse: “Hasbunallah wa ni’mal-wakil – Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs!”[12] our life principle. To free our hearts from heavy burdens, we should forgive mistakes made against us. If necessary, we should also not hesitate to seek psychological counseling and support.
Oh Allah! Make us those who value their health! Oh Allah, grant healing to the sick! Oh Allah, let help be granted to those in distress! Oh Allah, make our Friday an occasion for good!

Die Gesundheit - Sowohl Segen als auch anvertrautes Gut
(22.08.2025)
