This is clearly demonstrated through videos created recently to mark one of Won Buddhism’s commemorative days, the Founding Day. First, the Information and Computer Division of the Headquarters produced and released a special AI-generated video titled “Ah, That Day! The Day the White Paper Blood Seal Was Made!” for this year’s Founding Day. The video depicts the meaning of the Founding Sacrament, which holds significant symbolic importance in Won Buddhist history, and the founding spirit evident in the early history of the Order, in the form of an animation. Notably, it captures the attention by portraying the Great Founder Soe-San at the age of 27 or 28 and the appearance of the early followers at that time using AI. The special video release includes an integrated video of over 10 minutes, along with six short videos (shorts) of approximately 2 minutes each (a promotional video and Chapter 1: The First Isolated Sound, Chapter 2: Unity of Mind and Effort, Chapter 3: Selfless Dedication to the Public, Chapter 4: No Matter, No Limit, Chapter 5: Verification of the Dharma Realm), which has been evaluated as enhancing accessibility (YouTube channel “Won Buddhism”). The Samcheokpo Temple also produced and shared a Founding Day video titled “The One Heart of Nine People That Mourned the Heavens.” This video was worked on by the brother teachers Jo Jin-seong and Jo Jin-gwang, who had previously produced the video “The Footprints of Won Buddhist Evangelization in Busan” using AI in March (YouTube channel “Wonnim”). Regarding this, Teacher Jo Jin-gwang stated, “Developing AI video content is part of future evangelization. However, it must be utilized only after properly understanding the core content of the material and the specific characteristics of each AI service; ultimately, it is people who determine the direction and make judgments.” As AI technology advances and its use becomes more widespread, Won Buddhist video content is becoming more diverse. By reprocessing the history, anecdotes, and remaining photographic and audio materials accumulated by the Order to fit the present, this provides an opportunity for the public to encounter these stories again as vividly living narratives. However, the more a content relies on AI, the more accurate the meaning and factual relationships of the original source material must be, and it must be clearly noted that the content is derived from a source and utilizes AI.
