The ritual prayer is the central obligation of the Muslim, which personally transforms him, unites the community, and is considered a prerequisite for Paradise.
A faith that does not move us to prayer today will not lead us to Paradise tomorrow.
The text is a Friday sermon by the DITIB Religious Office that presents the ritual prayer (Salah) as a central pillar of Islam and as the key to Paradise. It emphasizes that the five-times-daily prayer is obligatory for every Muslim, regardless of age, occupation, or state of health. The Prophet is quoted as having described the prayer as the best deed and the first question of accountability on the Day of Judgment. The sermon describes the individual prayer postures (standing, bowing, prostration) as symbolic expressions of devotion and rebirth. The common direction of prayer (Qibla) is highlighted as a sign of the unity of all Muslims. A contemporary reference is made in the plea for peace for the holy sites, in particular Jerusalem (Quds), and for the protection of the children, elderly, and women living there. The text closes with the promise that a prayer performed sincerely strengthens character and brings relief rather than burden.

The Pillar of Religion, the Key to Paradise: The Ritual Prayer (Salah)
(03.10.2025)
My brothers and sisters! Dear believers!
Allah invites us to pray five times a day: the morning prayer, the midday prayer, the afternoon prayer, the evening prayer, and the night prayer. [2] These prayers are obligatory for every Muslim. Whether young or old, retired or employed, with few duties or heavily burdened, healthy or sick, at home or traveling; no one is exempt from them.
My brothers and sisters!
The Messenger of Allah (s) said: “The best deed is prayer at its proper time.” [3] He called prayer “the pillar of religion” [4] and made it clear that it is the first action for which the servant of Allah must give an account on the Day of Judgment. [5] At the same time, he conveyed the good news: whoever regularly performs his daily prayers—with correct ritual ablution (Wudu), with bowings (Ruku‘), prostrations (Sudschud), and in observance of the prayer times—Paradise is promised to him. [6]
A Muslim who follows the call of Allah does not neglect the prayer. A Muslim who follows the call of Allah does not neglect the prayer with the thought of making it up at a later time. For prayer is not a ritual that should be postponed, rushed, or done in passing. Rather, it is an encounter, a personal conversation with Allah [7] and an expression of the renewal of our covenant with Allah. In every prayer, we testify with “Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!” that Allah alone is the Greatest. In the ritual prayer, standing symbolizes the awakening. The bowing shows our devotion, and the prostration is the moment in which the servant is closest to his Lord. [8] It is the deepest expression of servitude. That all Muslims around the world face the same direction during prayer is the strongest sign of shared faith and the unity of hearts. The direction of prayer (Qibla) is a divine compass that grants us awareness of unity and cohesion and connects us in a common prayer row.
My brothers and sisters!
While we turn towards the Qibla, we should also not forget our first direction of prayer, Quds. Let us ask Allah that these holy territories, which were once called “Darussalam” – “Land of Peace” – may again become a place of peace, and that the people there—especially children, the elderly, and women—may live in safety and tranquility.
My brothers and sisters!
A prayer performed with sincerity transforms the person. It strengthens his character and morality, makes him just, merciful, disciplined, mindful, and humble. It shapes him into a person with awareness, responsibility, and compassion.
My brothers and sisters!
Prayer was not imposed upon man to be a burden. On the contrary: it is a relief. For the most valuable moment in the life of a servant is that in which he encounters Allah. For our beloved Prophet, prayer was not a burdensome duty, but a safe harbor in which he found rest. He perceived the ritual prayer as a source of light for the heart. [9] When the time for prayer came, he would say with joy: “O Bilal, call to prayer so that we may find relief.” [10]
My brothers and sisters!
If we do not turn to Allah in this world, how shall we then stand before Him on the Day of Judgment? Prayer is the key to Paradise. Let us not forget: A faith that does not move us to prayer today will not lead us to Paradise tomorrow. O Allah! Make us and our descendants among those who perform the ritual prayer uprightly and persistently! O Allah! Let us be among those who rise, purify themselves, and find the truth through the ritual prayer! (Amin)

Die Säule der Religion, der Schlüssel zum Paradies: Das rituelle Gebet (Salah)
(03.10.2025)
Meine Geschwister!
(Amin)
