The love of God for the Prophet Muhammad (saw) arose from his inner longing for God and his compassion for people, and the path to God's love leads for all believers through following this example.
Say: "If you love Allah, then follow me; (then) Allah will love you and forgive you your sins; for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." (3:32)
The text summarizes a Friday sermon in which the special love of God for the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is presented as the defining motif of his life. The central thesis is that the Prophet's inner longing for God and his compassion for people attracted God's love and made him the means of guidance. Quranic verse 93:8 is interpreted not as a reference to misguidance, but as an expression of deep love and devotion. The love of God is understood practically through prayer, gratitude, imitation of the Prophet, and trust in trials. The text refers to the following of the Promised Messiah (as) and calls Ahmadi Muslims to deepen this example in their own lives. As a present-day reference, prayers are called for on behalf of persecuted Ahmadis in Pakistan and worldwide, as well as for all who are oppressed. Finally, funeral prayers for two deceased individuals are announced.

In the Friday sermon of 26 December 2025, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba) built upon the previous Friday sermon, in which he had mentioned various aspects from the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). This time he spoke about the special love of Allah for the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and how this love shaped his entire life.
His Holiness (aba) explained that God Himself loved the Holy Prophet (saw) and guided him through His guidance — a guidance that the Prophet (saw) in turn passed on to humanity. This divine closeness arose from the deep inner longing of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) for God and his burning compassion for people. It was precisely this inner movement — the painful yearning for God's closeness and the concern for the spiritual guidance of humanity — that attracted God's love and led to God making him the way to His love as well as the means to guide others. In this context, His Holiness (aba) quoted the verse:
"He found you lost (in your longing for Him) and guided (you) aright." (93:8)
This verse does not mean that the Holy Prophet (saw) was ever misguided, but rather that he was full of love and longing for God and was seeking ways to guide people rightly — whereupon God drew him to Himself and granted him perfect guidance.
His Holiness (aba) quoted the explanations of the Promised Messiah (as), who explained that certain Quranic terms may appear disadvantageous on the surface, but in their true meaning contain the highest honour and deep praise. Thus, the expression used here by no means means that the Holy Prophet (saw) was ever misguided, but rather that he was in intimate love and longing for God and was therefore drawn to Himself by God. Thus this verse testifies precisely to the deep love of the Prophet (saw) for God.
His Holiness (aba) further reminded that the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) because he was the perfect human being and the perfect role model. Therefore, it applies to all believers:
"Say: 'If you love Allah, then follow me; (then) Allah will love you and forgive you your sins; for Allah is all-forgiving, merciful.'" (3:32)
The way to the love of God therefore leads through following the path of the Holy Prophet (saw).
His Holiness (aba) then described how the Prophet (saw) practically lived his love for God — especially through his prayer, his gratitude, and his intimate worship. He prayed to attain God's love and to place everything he loved in the service of what God loves. Even that which was denied to him, he took as an opportunity for turning to God.
Hadhrat Aisha (ra) reported that the Holy Prophet (saw) often rose at night to perform long prayers, wept earnestly, and asked God for His closeness — although he had already been assured of forgiveness. When she asked him why he still prayed so intensely, he answered:
"Should I not be a grateful servant?"
In another narration, Hadhrat Aisha (ra) reports that the Holy Prophet (saw) one night quietly left the house after he had believed she had fallen asleep. She followed him unnoticed to the cemetery of al-Baqīʿ. There he stood for a long time, repeatedly raised his hands in prayer, and asked for forgiveness for the deceased. In response to her later question, he explained that the Angel Gabriel had commanded him to pray for the inhabitants of the graves, and taught her the corresponding supplication for the deceased.
Even in times of trial and danger, his love for God remained unshakable. Even when he was attacked while in prayer, his life was characterized by nothing other than devotion, patience, and trust in God. It is thus reported that the Prophet (saw) one day was in prostration in prayer when an enemy approached and began to strangle him. The Companion Abu Bakr (ra), who saw this, rushed over, pushed the attacker back, and called out: "Do you want to kill a man simply because he says: My Lord is Allah?"
Even in such moments, the life of the Holy Prophet (saw) was characterized by nothing other than devotion and firm trust in God. And so even his contemporaries as non-believers testified: "Muhammad (saw) is in love with his Lord."
The Promised Messiah (as) describes that the Companions of the Holy Prophet (saw) not only saw his love and sincerity, but also God's visible help and closeness to him. Through this, they came to an unshakable certainty about God's existence and His power, which enabled them to make extraordinary sacrifices and to show obedience.
His Holiness (aba) stated that this perfect imitation of the Holy Prophet (saw) had also been the example of the Promised Messiah (as). Ahmadi Muslims are therefore called upon to reflect this example in their own lives and to steadily deepen their bond with the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw).
To conclude, His Holiness asked for prayers for the persecuted Ahmadis in Pakistan and worldwide, as well as for all people who suffer under injustice. He emphasized that the prayers of the believers in Pakistan must not cease, so that Allah may soon hold the persecutors in Pakistan to account.
Subsequently, His Holiness announced that he would lead the funeral prayers for Maulana Jalaluddin Nayyar and Mir Habib Ahmad and asked for God's forgiveness and mercy for them.
