Following the Prophet Muhammad consists in the practical implementation of his morality, which is regarded as the only effective means against the materialist alienation of the modern age and as the path to true faith and Paradise.

Today we are deeply influenced by the understanding that prefers the material to the spiritual, makes visibility the sole goal, and prefers the transient to the enduring, falsehood to truth.

The text is a sermon from the commemorative year of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, which highlights his morality (Akhlaq) as a central model for Muslims. It argues that true religion is inextricably linked to moral behaviour and that modesty constitutes the essence of the Islamic character. The preacher warns against a modern society that places material values above spiritual ones and prefers falsehood to truth. It calls for living the prophetic ethics in areas such as family, work, and trade, particularly through justice towards employees and care for those in need. The sermon calls for inner repentance and the nurturing of a sense of community among the believers. It concludes with a prayer asking God to preserve good morality. The text uses Quranic verses and hadiths to underpin the timeless validity of the prophetic teaching for life today.

Date: 04.09.2026 ﷽ Indeed, there is for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for whoever hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Indeed, every religion has a character. And the character of Islam is modesty.” OUR PROPHET AND GOOD MORALS O Lord of the Universe! On the anniversary of your birth, we experience the peace and happiness of being your brothers, whom you announced with the words, “How blessed are those who believe in me without having seen me.”1 We offer endless praise and glorification to our Exalted Lord who has honored us by making us part of His Ummah. May prayers, blessings, greetings, and all forms of respect be upon you, your family, and your companions. Dear Believers! Our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is a guide who was granted the praise of the Almighty, “You are indeed upon a noble character,”2 and who demonstrated how the divine message comes to life. And his character is not merely an example that remained in his time or is admired from a distance. In the messages of mercy of our Lord (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), there are wisdoms for all humanity. Indeed, our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah does not look at your appearances or your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.”3 He also said: “Do not abandon truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise… Beware of lying, for lying leads to evil, and evil leads to Hell…”4 And he also said: “Every religion has its own specific character; the essence of Islamic character is modesty.”5 Valued Muslims! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has shown the path to happiness in both worlds with his noble hadith: “On the Day of Judgment, nothing will be heavier on the scale of a believer than good character.”6 He has emphasized that faith and character cannot be considered separately, saying: “You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not truly believe until you love one another.”7 He has taught us the method of ensuring social peace and harmony with the warning: “Do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not turn your backs on one another. O servants of Allah, be brothers.”8 Dear Believers! In the family, in education, in work and commerce, and indeed in every area of life, the Most Noble Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) announces all the qualities that will lead humanity to goodness. The noble verse, “There is indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for you, for whoever hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much,”9 reminds us of this truth. He commands us to pay the worker his due wage before his sweat dries,10 and forbids us from sleeping while our neighbor is hungry.11 He also reminds us of our moral responsibilities with questions such as: “Did you stroke the head of an orphan? Did you feed a needy person? Did you visit a sick person?” Dear Muslims! Today, the understanding that prioritizes the material over the spiritual, makes visibility its sole goal, and prefers the transient over the eternal, and falsehood over truth, deeply affects us all. In such an environment, we must now face ourselves. We must reflect the prophetic character represented by our Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smiling face, gentle nature, and delicate and sensitive soul into our lives. Let us not forget that the path to living a life worthy of human dignity lies in recognizing and holding tightly to the universal character of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Our supplication to our Exalted Lord is the following prayer of the Most Noble Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “O Allah! Grant me good character. There is none who can grant me good character but You. Keep me away from bad character. There is none who can keep me away from bad character but You.”12 1 Ibn Hanbal, III, 155. 2 Al-Qalam, 68/4. 3 Muslim, Birr, 34. 4 Muslim, Birr, 105. 5 Ibn Majah, Zuhd, 17. 6 Tirmidhi, Birr, 62. 7 Muslim, Iman, 93. 8 Bukhari, Adab, 62. 9 Al-Ahzab, 33/21. 10 Ibn Majah, Ruhun, 4. 11 Ibn Abi Shaybah, Musannaf, Iman wa Ru’ya, 6. 12 Muslim, Musafirun, 201. PEYGAMBERİMİZ VE GÜZEL AHLAK Ey Fahr-i Kâinat Efendimiz! Veladetinin sene -i devriyesinde, “Ne mutlu beni görmeden iman edenlere” 1 diyerek müjdelediğin kardeşlerin olma nın huzur ve mutluluğunu yaşıyoruz. Bizleri ümmetin olmakla şereflendiren Yüce Rabbimize sonsuz hamd ve sena ediyoruz. Salât ü selâm, tahiyyât ü ikrâm, her türlü ihtirâm sana, âline ve ashabına olsun. Aziz Müminler! Sevgili Peygamberimiz (s.a.s) , Cenâb-ı Hakk’ın “Sen elbette yüce bir ahla k üzeresin” 2 övgüsüne mazhar ol an, ilahî mesajın nasıl hayat bulacağını gösteren bir kılavuzdur. Ve onun ahlakı, yaşadığı çağda kalan ya da uzaktan hayranlık duyulan bir örneklikten ibaret değildir. Efendimiz (s.a.s)’in rahmet mesajlarında bütün insanlık için hikmetler vardır. Allah Resûlü (s.a.s), iki cihan saadetinin yolunu “Kıyamet gününde müminin terazisinde güzel ahlaktan daha ağır bir şey olmayacaktır” 6 hadis-i şerifleriyle göstermiştir. İman ile ahlakın birbirinden ayrı düşünülemeyeceğini, “İman etmedikçe cennete giremezsiniz. Birbirinizi sevmedikçe de gerçek manada iman etmiş olmazsınız”7 sözleriyle vurgulamıştır. Toplumsal huzur ve barışı sağlamanın yöntemini ise, “Birbirinizden nefret etmeyin, birbirinize haset etmeyin, birbirinize sırt çevirmeyin. Ey Allah’ın kulları, kardeş olun” 8 uyarısıyla bizlere öğretmiştir. Değerli Müminler! Ailede, eğitimde, iş ve ticarette, hâsılı hayatın her alan ında insanlığı iyiliğe ulaştıracak tüm hasletleri Resûl-i Ekrem (s.a.s) haber vermektedir. Böylesi bir ortamda a rtık kendimizle yüzleşmeliyiz. Peygamberimiz (s.a.s)’in güler yüzü, nazik tabiatı, ince ve hassas ruhu ile temsil ettiği nebevî ahlakı nı hayatımıza yansıtmalıyız. Unutmayalım ki; insan onuruna layık bir hayat yaşamanın yolu, Sevgili Peygamberimiz (s.a.s)’in cihanşümul ahlakını tanımaktan ve ona sımsıkı sarılmaktan geçmektedir. Yüce Rabbimizden niyazımız , Resûl-i Ekrem (s.a.s)’in şu duasıdır: “Allah’ım! Beni güzel ahlaka eriştir. Senden başka güzel ahlaka eriştirecek yoktur. Kötü ahla kı benden uz aklaştır. Senden başka kötü ahla kı benden uzaklaştıracak yoktur.”12 1 İbn Hanbel, III, 155. 2 Kalem, 68/4. 3 Müslim, Birr, 34. 4 Müslim, Birr, 105. 5 İbn Mâce, Zühd, 17. 6 Tirmizî, Birr, 62. 7 Müslim, Îmân, 93. 8 Buhârî, Edeb, 62. 9 Ahzâb, 33/21. 10 İbn Mâce, Rühûn, 4. 11 İbn Ebû Şeybe, Musannef, Îmân ve rü’yâ, 6. 12 Müslim, Müsâfirîn, 201.
