The Isra and Miraj journey is a divine remedy against the spiritual exhaustion of modern times, because it shows that Allah is with the believers and the patient, and that true dignity does not lie in the material.
The blessed Isra and Miraj journey is a remedy for the problems of our time and reminds us of the following important truths: A human being is never abandoned or alone in this world.
The text narrates the difficult years of the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca, in particular the boycott, the death of his wife Khadija and his uncle Abu Talib, and the mistreatment in Taif. In this time of deep grief, the revelation of the Isra and Miraj journey took place, which is interpreted as divine comfort and a sign of the omnipotence of Allah. The text transfers this narrative to the present by naming stress, loneliness, and mental exhaustion as typical problems of modern times. The central message is that a human being is never alone in this world and that Allah is with the believers and the patient. True exaltation is not located in the material, but with Allah. The text concludes with a supplication of the Prophet, which asks for protection against weakness, sorrow, stinginess, and oppression. The sermon is directed at the believers and encourages them not to lose courage in difficult times.

Isra and Miraj: Healing for the Problems of Our Time
(09.01.2026)
The Messenger of Allah (s.a.s.) experienced the most difficult times during his 23-year mission in Mecca. With every expansion of Islam, the hostility of the polytheists also grew. Its cruelest expression was found in the boycott, which began in the seventh year of his prophethood and lasted for three years. Muslims were pushed out of public life, excluded from trade, and socially isolated. Hunger, scarcity, and even the deprivation of basic necessities of life were intended to break them. Barely had the wounds of the boycott healed when the Prophet was struck by grief through two events: First, he lost his faithful wife Khadija (r.a.), and shortly thereafter his beloved uncle Abu Talib, who was his greatest supporter. Despite all these severe events, our Prophet did not give up. He did not let himself be discouraged and did not deviate from his path. He bore great responsibility, so he gathered his strength and set out for Taif to proclaim the truth to the people there. But there he was pelted with stones. His shoes filled with blood, his heart with pain. Until he found someone who granted him protection, even the return to Mecca was denied to him, which is why he sought refuge for a time in the Cave of Hira.
In those days of deepest sorrow, when the Messenger of Allah most urgently needed spiritual support, the divine will of our Creator was revealed. To comfort our Prophet and to show him that he is not alone, Allah opened to him the gates to a unique journey. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.s.) was led from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca (Masjid al-Haram) to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and from there on the Miraj journey. The first stage of this journey is described by the Holy Quran with the following words: “Praise be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque (Kaaba) to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”1 This blessed journey became a sublime ascent beyond the boundaries of the earth to the Miraj. It is a strong proof that Allah’s omnipotence is not bound to our limited concepts of time and space and that His mercy effortlessly overcomes any distance.
Dear brothers and sisters! Dear believers!
Today, stress, loneliness, and mental exhaustion, which modern life brings with it, often lead to our inner strength dwindling and our souls becoming weary. The blessed Isra and Miraj journey is a remedy for the problems of our time and reminds us of the following important truths: Man is never abandoned or alone in this world. For Allah is with those who believe in Him and put their trust in Him.2 No matter what we encounter on our life’s path, we must not fall into hopelessness, not give up, and not lose courage. For our exalted Creator is with the patient.3 Isra and Miraj also teach us that true exaltation does not lie in the material, not in transient positions, titles, or in the deceptive splendor of the world. True honor and dignity lie solely with Allah.4
Dear brothers and sisters!
I would like to conclude my sermon with a supplication of our Prophet: “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the weaknesses of old age. I seek refuge in You from sorrow, helplessness, and laziness. I seek refuge in You from stinginess and cowardice. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debts and from being oppressed by powerful people.”5 (Amin)

Isra und Miradsch: Heilung für die Probleme unserer Zeit
(09.01.2026)
