The proper preparation for Ramadan requires an active inward purification of the heart through repentance and forgiveness, as well as the conscious inclusion of children in the religious and ethical practices of the month.
Let us free our hearts from resentment and pride and adorn them with mercy, patience, and ichlas (sincerity).
The text is a DITIB sermon that invites believers to prepare inwardly for Ramadan. Ramadan is portrayed as a blessed guest whose arrival is awaited with anticipation and reverence. The central appeal is directed at believers to purify their hearts through gratitude, repentance, and forgiveness in order to receive the month in a fitting manner. A significant part of the sermon deals with the upbringing of children, who are to be gently introduced to fasting and religious practices. It is emphasized that fasting means more than abstaining from food, but also encompasses the transmission of values such as patience and mercy. The sermon appeals to the community to enliven the mosques together and to experience the joy of sharing. It concludes with the call to explain to children the difference between right and wrong and to raise them into people of conscience.

The Preparation of Our Hearts
for Ramadan
(13.02.2026)
Brothers and Sisters! Dear Believers!
The blessed Guest whom we have longed for is at our door. Only a few more days separate us from Ramadan, the blessed month of the Holy Quran. God willing, we will perform the first Tarawih prayer on the coming Wednesday evening and welcome Ramadan with a heartfelt "Welcome." First Tarawih, first Sahur, first Muqabele – and on Thursday evening we will together experience the indescribable joy of the first breaking of the fast, the Iftar. May Allah enable us all to enjoy this blessed time in its fullness with every breath.
Dear Believers!
When a beloved Guest announces himself, whose meeting we have longed for, it fills us with anticipation. Days in advance we begin our preparations. With even greater devotion and reverence should we receive Ramadan. Since only a few days remain, I invite you to ask ourselves the following question together: "Am I ready to receive this blessed Guest in a befitting manner?" If we cannot yet answer this question with a sincere "Yes," then we should not lose hope.
Elhamdulillah – we still have time to make up for this. So let us use the remaining time and purify our heart with gratitude and Zikr, our soul with sincere repentance. Let us heal grievances through forgiveness. Let us break the ice between us with warmth and sincerity. Let us free our heart from resentment and arrogance and adorn it with mercy, patience, and Ichlas (sincerity).
Brothers and Sisters!
While we experience the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, we should not leave our children out. Let us set up a loving "Ramadan Corner" at home. Let us let them partake in the special mood of Sahur. Even if they are not yet obligated to fast, we can gently introduce our children to "half-day fasting." In this way we accompany them on their path to Ibade (worship) and let the beauty of our religion grow in their hearts. Let us enliven the mosques together with them – from reading the Quran together to the Tarawih prayer – and let them feel this special atmosphere. Let us set up a "Good Deeds Savings Box" at home, to experience as a family the joy of sharing and helping.
Ramadan is the month of fasting – yet fasting means far more than merely abstaining from food and drink. We should convey this to our children as well. Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed – as guidance and a clear distinguisher between truth and falsehood.¹ Let us explain to our children – according to their age and in an understandable way – the difference between right and wrong. Let us teach them patience and gratitude. Let us convey to them the faith, Islam, and our religious as well as cultural values. And above all: let us raise them to be people with conscience and mercy. In doing so, we orient ourselves to what we have learned from the Messenger of Allah (s): "Make things easy and do not make them difficult, and convey good news and do not drive people away."²

Die Vorbereitung unserer Herzen
auf den Ramadan
(13.02.2026)
Geschwister!
