Human senses are divine gifts whose responsible and grateful use leads to moral action and is subject to accountability on the Day of Judgment.
The ear, the eye, and the heart, they will all be held accountable for how they were used.
The text is a Friday sermon by DITIB that calls on Muslims to use the gifts bestowed by Allah—especially the ear, the eyes, and the heart—responsibly. It argues that every gift is accompanied by a duty of gratitude and of using it for divine purposes. Specifically, it recommends opening the ear to the Quran and good words but protecting it from slander; directing the eyes toward creation and what is good but preserving them from what is forbidden; and filling the heart with faith and good intentions. The text emphasizes that on the Day of Resurrection one must give an account of how these senses were used. It concludes with a supplication of the Prophet asking for protection from the evil of these organs. The sermon combines theological exegesis with practical ethical instructions for the daily life of believers.

Dear Muslims!
Allah, the Exalted, has bestowed countless gifts upon humanity. Humans should know how to appreciate the value of each gift and use them according to their purpose. For every gift also comes with responsibility. The ear, the eyes, and the heart belong to these countless gifts. In the following verse, Allah makes clear how important these gifts are and that we should be grateful for them. He says: “Allah has brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers, while you knew nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts, so that you may be grateful.”1 Let us therefore remind ourselves how we should use these gifts that Allah has bestowed upon us.
Dear Believers!
Thanks to our ear, we hear the Noble Quran, come to know Allah, and perceive His commands and advice. Listening to beautiful and beneficial words brings peace to our hearts and strengthens our faith. Therefore, we should accustom our ear to the recitation of the Quran and to good words. At the same time, we should pay no heed to matters that do not concern us, nor to slander, malicious gossip, and ill-intentioned suspicions.
Thanks to our eyes, we read the Quran, see the gifts around us, and contemplate Allah’s unique creation in the universe. The more we reflect on what we see, the more our faith and our love for Allah are strengthened. Therefore, we should protect our eyes from what is forbidden and direct them toward what is good.
Our heart, on the other hand, is the center of our faith and our intentions. With our heart, we believe in Allah and His Messenger, love them, and form the intention for our deeds. If our heart is directed toward what is good and benevolent, our limbs also turn toward what is good and benevolent; we perform the prayer, fast, pay the Zakat, and do good. However, if we leave our heart to bad intentions and desires, our limbs turn toward sin. For this reason, we should keep our heart alive with faith, sincerity, and good intentions, and strive to protect it from bad thoughts and desires.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Let us not forget: Hearing, sight, and the heart belong to the gifts for which we must give an account on the Day of Resurrection. Thus speaks Allah: “…The ear, the eye, and the heart, they all will be held accountable for how they were used.”2
Therefore, let us, aware of this responsibility, use our ears, eyes, hearts, and all other limbs and gifts that Allah has bestowed upon us on His path. Let us make the gifts that Allah has bestowed upon us a means to attain His pleasure.
I would like to conclude my sermon with the following supplication of our beloved Prophet (s): “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of my ear, my eye, my tongue, and my heart.”3

Verehrte Muslime!
