Social peace arises when believers live justice, respect, and forgiveness and understand differences as an enrichment, with the Prophet serving as a model of forgiveness.
Let us spread love instead of hatred, mercy instead of anger, forgiveness instead of punishment, and the universally recognized values on which people agree with one another instead of exclusion.
The text is a Friday sermon of the DITIB that presents peace as a central ethical goal of Islamic thought. Peace is linked with justice, inner peace, security, and mutual respect. Social peace is described as the shared responsibility of all believers, radiating from the individual to society. Different peoples and tribes are interpreted as an enrichment and an occasion for getting to know one another, not as a division. The Prophet Muhammad is cited as a model of forgiveness at the conquest of Mecca, to show that forgiveness represents moral maturity. The believers are called upon to spread peace, mercy, and forgiveness in family and society and to be ambassadors of peace. The text concludes with a supplication for peace for society and all of humanity.

Ethics of Coexistence and World Peace
(14.08.2026)
Dear Believers!
In Islamic thought, peace means that people live together in justice, inner peace, security, and mutual respect. Where peace prevails, human dignity is preserved. Where peace prevails, good takes precedence.
Ensuring social peace is our shared responsibility. Thus speaks Allah: “O you who believe! Enter into Islam completely…”1 Following this call and being people of peace ourselves should be our fundamental goal. For social peace spreads from the individual to society.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Let us heed Allah’s command to value and respect people: “O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another…”2 Therefore, let us not view differences as a cause for division and conflict, but as an enrichment that enables us to get to know one another. Let us follow the Hadith of our Prophet (s) and harm no one: “No harm shall be inflicted, nor harm repaid with harm.”3
Dear Believers!
A believer guards against injustice, upholds justice, does good, and helps those in need. He spreads the greeting of peace,4 acts truthfully, and adheres to the rules that preserve social peace. All of this contributes to the growth of trust and mutual respect among people. Where trust and respect characterize a society, social harmony and peace are also consolidated.
Dear Muslims!
The most beautiful example of how social peace can be created is found in the noble Prophet (s). Despite all the suffering caused by the polytheists, our beloved Prophet (s) chose forgiveness rather than punishment during the conquest of Mecca. He said: “I say to you what Yusuf said: ‘Today there is no blame against you. May Allah forgive you. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.’”5 Thus, he showed that forgiveness is not weakness, but the highest form of moral maturity and the most beautiful way to win hearts. For forgiveness ends mutual wounds and opens the path to peace among people.
Dear Muslims!
Let us, starting with our families, contribute to strengthening peace and security in our surroundings and in the society in which we live. Let us spread love instead of hatred, mercy instead of anger, forgiveness instead of punishment, and the universally accepted values in which people agree, instead of exclusion. Let us be ambassadors of peace both in our society and throughout the world.
I would like to conclude my sermon with the following supplication:
O Allah! Grant our hearts tranquility and our society and all of humanity peace. Make us servants who forgive, practice mercy, and spread peace. Amen!

Ethik des Zusammenlebens und Weltfrieden
(14.08.2026)
So spricht Allah: „Gläubige!
Amin!
