The Safe Homeland [1]
All praise is due to Allah, Who has bestowed His blessings upon His servants, and has decreed mercy for Himself. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, a testimony of a servant who has no independence, not even for the blink of an eye, from His grace and mercy. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger; Allah expanded his chest, elevated his mention, and placed humiliation and degradation upon those who opposed His command. May Allah send prayers, peace, and blessings upon him, upon his family, and upon his companions, and upon those who follow his path and adhere to his Sunnah until the Day of Meeting Him.
As for what follows, fear Allah, O servants of Allah; for indeed, whoever fears Allah, He will protect him, and whoever places his trust in Him, He will suffice him, and Allah is sufficient as a Guardian.
O Muslims: Indeed, among the most noble of Allah’s blessings upon the servants after Islam is the blessing of safety and security. There is no tranquility for the servants, nor stability for the lands, except through the attainment of this blessing. Therefore, Allah has bestowed this blessing upon Quraysh, saying, Exalted is He: “Have We not made for them a secure sanctuary, to which the fruits of all things are brought as provision from Us? But most of them do not know” [Al-Qasas: 57]. Thus, a dignified life stands upon the pillar of safety and security. Oh, what a blessing it is, whose value is known only by those who have been deprived of it! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever wakes up in the morning in safety within his home, in good health in his body, and has the food of the day at hand, it is as if the world has been gathered for him.” Narrated by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad.
A person’s connection to his homeland and his feeling of security within the bosom of his land is an innate matter in the human soul. Therefore, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Mecca as an emigrant, he said in farewell to it: “By Allah, you are the best of Allah’s lands, and the most beloved of Allah’s lands to Allah, and were it not that I was expelled from you, I would not have left.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi. And when love for the homeland is a firmly established instinct in the heart of every human being, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his Lord to make Madinah beloved to him, saying: “O Allah, make Madinah beloved to us as we love Mecca, or even more.” Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would arrive from a journey and catch sight of the heights of Madinah, he would urge his she-camel on, and if it was a mount, he would spur it on out of love for it.” Narrated by al-Bukhari. Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “In the hadith is an indication of the legitimacy of loving the homeland and longing for it.”
O Muslims: Indeed, the homeland in which the laws are established, in which the rites are proclaimed, and which is enveloped by safety and security, is a divine blessing and a Lordly gift that necessitates gratitude to the Bestower. He, the Most High, said: “A goodly land and a Forgiving Lord” [Saba: 15]. And through gratitude, blessings continue, and calamities and afflictions are averted. He, Exalted is He, said: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you” [Ibrahim: 7].
Verily, among the greatest blessings for which gratitude is obligatory is the blessing of this blessed land, which Allah has sworn by, saying, the Most High: “And by this secure land” [At-Tin: 3]. It is the land of the two great mosques, and the two sanctified cities: Mecca and Madinah—may Allah honor them—the place of descent of the Revelation, the source of the Message, and the Qibla of the Muslims. Its banner is the word of Tawhid (Oneness of God), its constitution is the Quran, and its establishment is an establishment for all people: “Allah has made the Kaaba, the Sacred House, an establishment for the people” [Al-Ma'idah: 97].
Servants of Allah: Indeed, a secure homeland is an unmatched blessing and a precious treasure sought by millions. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—may Allah protect it—is a shining model among homelands, adorned with the garments of security and prosperity. Pilgrims and those performing Umrah flock to it, until it has become a sanctuary for religion and a refuge for people. Allah, the Most High, said: “Our Lord, indeed I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make the hearts of some people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits, so that they may be grateful” [Ibrahim: 37].
And recall, O Servants of Allah, the blessing of the unification of the country, and the efforts of King Abdulaziz—may Allah have mercy on him—in gathering its word and reuniting its scattered parts, and what was realized of unity after division, security after fear, and stability after turmoil. Allah, the Most High, said: “And remember the favor of Allah upon you when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together, so that by His favor you became brothers” [Al Imran: 103]. And his sons after him—may Allah have mercy on them—continued in preserving this unity, up to the era of the Servant of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, may Allah protect them.
Servants of Allah: And among the blessings of Allah upon this country are the realization of Tawhid (monotheism) and adherence to the correct creed. For Tawhid is the foundation of the message of the Messengers. Allah, the Most High, said: “And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid Taghut’” [An-Nahl: 36]. And Tawhid has its impact in the rectification of the country, the unity of the servants, and the uprightness of affairs. Allah, the Most High, said: “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided” [Al Imran: 103]. So thank Allah, the Most High, for this blessing, preserve it, and raise your generations upon it. Allah, the Most High, said: “So let them worship the Lord of this House, [i.e., the Kaaba], Who has fed them from hunger and made them safe from fear” [Quraysh: 3-4].
Servants of Allah: Indeed, the homeland has rights and duties upon its children that must be fulfilled. Among the most important of these is the preservation of the blessing of security through the unification of the word and the unity of the ranks, and staying away from stirring up sedition, and obedience to the rulers in what is good. Allah, the Most High, said: “And obey Allah and His Messenger and do not dispute [among yourselves] and [thus] weaken and your power [i.e., your resolve] will be broken” [Al-Anfal: 46]. And Allah, the Most High, said: “O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you” [An-Nisa: 59]. And due to the importance of the unity of hearts and cooperation in society, among the first actions of our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he migrated to Madinah, establishing the first Islamic state, was the brotherhood (Muakhah) between the Muhajireen (Emigrants) and the Ansar (Helpers).
Brothers in Faith: Indeed, the preservation of the security of the homeland and its resources is a shared responsibility. The righteous individual strives for the advancement of his homeland, the elevation of its status, the defense of its sanctities, the respect for its systems, the service to his society, and the contribution to its construction and progress.
O Muslims: And in the midst of what the world is experiencing of events and fluctuations, wars and conflicts, it is confirmed to refrain from delving into crises and to refer matters to the Book and the Sunnah, then to those in authority. [Allah says:] “And when there comes to them news of security or fear, they spread it about. But if they had referred it to the Messenger and to those in authority among them, its [true] meaning would have been clear to those who derive it from them” [An-Nisa: 83]. And this necessitates caution against the circulation of rumors and false reports and haste in transmitting news. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “It is sufficient for a person to be a liar that he narrates everything he hears.” Narrated by Muslim.
Fear Allah, O servants of Allah, and stand in a single row in the face of every sower of discord and corrupter; until the homeland is safe from the schemes of the schemers. He, the Exalted, said: “And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression” [Al-Ma'idah: 2].
O Allah, make the blessings of security and faith permanent for us, and grant us the ability to be grateful for them continuously, O You who possess Majesty and Honor. I say this and I seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for you, so seek His forgiveness; indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
The Second Sermon
Praise be to Allah, and that is sufficient, and peace upon His chosen servants. As for what follows: Fear Allah, O servants of Allah, with true piety, and hold firmly to the strong handhold of Islam; and cling to your religion, for in it is the safeguard of your affairs and the good outcome of your destiny. Beware of division and disagreement, and adhere to the community; for the wolf only eats from the stray sheep, and whoever desires the cool shade of Paradise, let him adhere to the community.
Pray upon the Messenger of Guidance, O servants of Allah; for Allah has commanded you to do so in His Book, and He, Glory be to Him, said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and greet him with [a proper] greeting” [Al-Ahzab: 56]. O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. O Allah, exalt Islam and the Muslims, and humble shirk and the polytheists, and support Your monotheist servants, and make this country safe and secure, as well as the rest of the lands of the Muslims. O Allah, grant success to the Servant of the Two Noble Sanctuaries, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Prince Muhammad bin Salman, in what You love and are pleased with, O You who possess Majesty and Honor. O Allah, support our stationed soldiers, and be for them a protector and a helper, O Mighty, O Majestic.
O servants of Allah: Remember Allah with much remembrance, and glorify Him in the morning and in the evening. And the last of our supplication is that all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
