One who cultivates the intense longing for the Supreme as an inner fire burns away all worldly desires and leads a divine life, regardless of external circumstances.
Intense striving for the Supreme is a positive fire in which all desires and longings are burned to ash. Cultivate this fire, cultivate the longing for the Supreme.
The text calls on the reader to cultivate the intense longing for the Supreme (Mumuksutva) as an inner fire. Using the example of the aspirant Nachiketas from the Katha Upanishad, it shows how this fire burns away all worldly desires and temptations. I want to read something from the book Saad Hanna by Swami Sivamanda. The fire of intense aspiration. A powerful fire burns everything that is thrown into the fire. A powerful fire burns all desires. Nachiketas, the aspirant in the Katha Upanishad, who has resisted all temptations and seeks only the highest aspiration. So many attractive, enticing things were offered to him by Yama. Money was offered to him, beauty, strength. A great kingdom, all worldly knowledge, and things that entice the senses. But Nachiketas burned all of that to ash, for he possessed this fire, this Mumukshutva, the intense longing for the highest. Intense aspiration for the highest is a positive fire in which all desires and longings are burned to ash. Cultivate this fire, cultivate the longing for the highest. Do not let yourself be led astray by other desires. Only when you have this great longing for the highest and also act accordingly, are you truly a sincere aspirant. If you want to lead a life of the divine, a divine life, the innermost part of your heart should be a place of intense aspiration. It should burn in you the fire of Yoga. Keep this flame alive. The outer life does not necessarily have to be changed. Only inwardly should this highest longing for the highest truth be present, and this fire should burn everything else to ash. Make intense aspiration an integral part of your being. Live such a life marked by sincerity. If this fire is present, then ultimately it does not matter what you do or where you live. If you fulfill everything with divine devotion, everything becomes a life of the divine. Be aware at all times, your mind can go astray. You can be led in all kinds of false directions. Always be vigilant. Strive, strive, strive. If your entire life is dedicated to the search for truth, you will experience this highest truth.
