Separation, Pain, and Meditation

Gratitude · carrying Patience · carrying Repentance

Suffering arises from clinging to what is impermanent; through meditative acceptance of pain and conscious letting go in love and gratitude, inner peace and freedom become possible.

The thought that something is unchanging is simply a thought; it is a cause of the arising of suffering. We take the impermanent to be permanent.

The text deals with how to handle the intense feelings of loneliness, grief, anger, and guilt after a separation. The speaker advises examining these emotions in meditation rather than remaining in thought-based blame or the search for the ex-partner. The core of the practice is the conscious allowing and embracing of pain, which leads to a dissolution of emotional tension and the emergence of inner peace. The text connects this process with the Buddhist concept of impermanence, according to which clinging to what is impermanent is the main cause of suffering. It is emphasized that letting go in love and gratitude is not to be understood as failure but as the natural course of things. This attitude is also applied to professional changes in order to create space for new encounters. The message aims to develop inner freedom and gratitude through acceptance and going with the flow of change.

Welcome to our meditation tips from the Buddenhaus Munich with Charlie Pilz. Charlie, I have just separated from my partner and I am now experiencing strong feelings of loneliness, grief, pain, but also anger. How do I deal with this in meditation? First of all, examine which thoughts are connected to these feelings, because a separation causes, for example, guilt feelings could arise. What was wrong with me? What did I do wrong? So you are trying to dig up guilt in yourself, if you will. It also has corresponding feelings as a consequence: insecurities, self-worth. Exactly, examine these feelings that arise as well. It can be that anger, above all, arises when you believe to see the fault in the partner. So all these more detailed connections as to why a separation occurs naturally need examination, and it is also justified. The difficulty is only that one undertakes this examination in the midst of the present emotions. So if you are in anger, you will naturally perceive this situation very differently than if you are in grief. Then you perceive the situation differently. You know that, but in the moment where you are stuck in these emotions, you do not know it, but you really go into the area where you believe the thoughts, the conclusions, which of course also cause your perception. That is a precondition of our mind: you already know these connections somewhere, and then it needs the relatively simple explanation of how to deal with difficult emotions in such a way that they dissolve and an underlying feeling of peace comes to the fore. That is the aim of the entire practice of dealing with difficult emotions. There is a very beautiful and simple sentence: nothing brings you closer to yourself than pain. That is an emotion. If you allow it, it should be an example. In you is the grief, a pain regarding a separation, regardless of the reason, no guilt, everything is not in consideration, but only the pain. And now comes this incredible practice: turning towards it, opening, giving space, and being still in the pain, completely allowing the pain, embracing the pain. In that moment, the thought is no longer there: how can I get back the person who separated from me? It is a thought: how can I dissolve the guilt that I have taken on, the condition was that a separation arose? How can I dissolve that? It is only this pain that is there, and when the pain dissolves, then you experience this feeling. It is only a hint. It can be that you experience a great love that leads to the fact that you can let a person go in love and also come to terms with yourself. You live in that moment, of course, also in the understanding of what is called impermanence, and you are aware of it. There is nothing that one can hold back, that one can hold on to. Life is a constant change. People come, people go. To live in the awareness of this impermanence is a very great, great prayer, which always means to flow along with the changes, to let go of what goes, to let go in love, to experience gratitude regarding the perhaps beautiful shared things that one has experienced. Feel yourself for a moment into this area of a separation, even if you are not currently affected by it. How it would actually be if a love relationship, for whatever reason, comes to an end, and you could feel a feeling of gratitude for the shared beautiful moments and times with these people, wish this person the best for their further life, and let them go in love, and yourself also experience the feeling of being free, because when the person goes, something in you is free for a new encounter, and that is of great importance that we are always again free for new encounters when any encounters come to an end. and yes we think of relationships of man woman woman man whatever that also applies to the area of your jobs in professional life think of the beautiful times you have spent in a professional life let this field go and experience the freedom something new may arise people must learn to live with change the thought that something is unchangeable is simply a thought it is a cause for the arising of suffering we hold the impermanent for the imperishable and when something breaks that is breakable and we work with the consciousness that it would be unbreakable then this pain comes then the grief comes then the disappointment comes the anger and the rage that is the consequence but if we truly learn to love in the moment in which we experience an encounter and also let go when paths change when paths when two people separate it is very often the case that the paths separate and then each goes their way and that is not a failure and that is not something bad or something but that is the course of things one could say change belongs to life because if it does not take place the change everything is dead that is not what we wish for life is movement
