Earthly life is an examination whose outcome is irrevocably fixed in the afterlife, which is why a person must strictly examine and repent for their deeds and omissions in everyday life.

While poor grades in school life can still be corrected, there is no possibility in the afterlife to reverse poor grades.

The text uses the metaphor of the school report card to illustrate the Islamic concept of the final reckoning. It emphasizes that angels record every action and every omission of the believers without omission. The evaluation takes place in the afterlife on two levels: before the Creator (faith, worship) and before the creatures (humans, animals, nature). It warns that in the afterlife there is no possibility to reverse mistakes or 'poor grades.' The text calls on the believers to actively take stock of their lives, to repent of sins, and to lead a life that can easily give an account. It refers to Quranic passages and a hadith to underpin the urgency of self-examination. The message aims at ethical and spiritual self-discipline in everyday life.

Our Testimony: Our Record of Deeds (18.07.2025) At the end of each school year, a report card is handed to the students. However, the report card is not merely a sheet of paper on which the grades are written; it is a mirror of the effort that was shown over the course of the year, of the knowledge acquired and the experiences gathered. Brethren! Beloved believers! Whether we go to school or not, in truth we are all students in this world, going through the various trials of life. In every moment, in every state, we are tested. We are measured by what we do, and also by what we leave undone. Sometimes we are tested with prosperity, sometimes with hardship… Sometimes with illness, sometimes with health… The angels, who are commissioned by the command of our Lord, record every moment of us and fill our record of deeds line by line without any gap. And one day the time will run out, the capital of our life will be exhausted, the test will end and the bell of our life will ring. When the Day of Reckoning has come, our books of deeds will be opened one after another, and each of us will be called upon to read our testimony. Brethren! Just as with the report cards in this world, an evaluation will also take place in the Hereafter on two levels: On the one hand, our duties towards the Creator will be taken into account, on the other hand our responsibility towards the creatures. On one side of our book, our faith, our devotion and our acts of worship will be judged. On the other side, our responsibility towards people, our compassion towards living beings and our sensitivity towards nature will be weighed. From the prayer that we have performed to the heart that we have hurt, everything will be recorded without any gap. Not a single letter will be missing, not a single line forgotten. Whoever has done even a speck of good will see it; and whoever has done even a speck of evil will see it likewise. On that great day, each of us will be required to give an account of our life. Brethren! Just as a student who holds his report card in his hands becomes excited and thoughtful, let us also reflect on what we have had entered into our book of deeds, and let us take stock of our life. Let us heed the advice of our Prophet (s), who said: "The wise one is the one who holds himself to account and works for the life after death." Let us strive to fill our testimony in the Hereafter with the most beautiful grades. While poor grades in school life can still be corrected, there is no possibility in the Hereafter to reverse poor grades. Let us pay attention to our acts of worship, to our thoughts, to our words, to our behaviour and our deeds. Let us strive to lead a life for which we can easily give an account. Every day is a new, blank page. Come, let us fill these pages with good, beautiful and blessed things. Let us repent of our mistakes and sins immediately and sincerely. May our Lord count us among those who receive their testimony in the Hereafter in the right hand and rejoice over it, and among those who pass their reckoning easily! May our Friday be blessed!
