The Governor of Beni Suef Meets His Holiness the Pope Upon His Departure from the Governorate
Inauguration of Three Churches, Visits to Two Dioceses and Two Monasteries, and the Opening and Laying of Cornerstones for Churches and Service Buildings During the Tour
“LOVE NEVER FAILS” The Meaning Present in Every Detail of the Visit
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II concluded his pastoral tour of the Upper Egypt region this evening, which lasted seven days. During this period, he visited the Dioceses of El-Mallawi, Anshuna, and Ashmunin in Minya Governorate, and the Dioceses of Baha, El-Fayoum, and Samasta in Beni Suef Governorate. He also visited the Monastery of the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael in Bahnsa, northwest of Minya, and the Monastery of Saint Anba Samuel the Confessor at Mount Qalamoun.
His Holiness was seen off at the final stop of his tour in the village of Ezba Jafar by Governor Abdullah Abdel Aziz of Beni Suef and a number of provincial leaders. Security personnel in Minya and Beni Suef Governorsates made extensive efforts over the seven days of the visit to ensure the smooth and easy implementation of the program, a fact that was commended and appreciated by His Holiness the Pope and the Metropolitan and Diocesan Bishops.
The visit included various pastoral activities, during which two dioceses and two monasteries were visited, three churches were inaugurated, and seven meetings were held with councils of priests, monks, nuns, and consecrated persons, in addition to numerous official and popular meetings, as well as the opening of service projects and the laying of cornerstones for churches and service buildings.
Throughout the days of the visit, the true image of the relationship between the members of the Church and their Pope and Shepherd was manifested. This image was embodied by the large numbers of residents who gathered in the streets of cities and villages, as well as on the roads connecting the villages, waiting for the moment His Holiness the Pope would pass in front of their village. The scene was adorned with an outpouring of emotions expressed through palm fronds, banners bearing words of welcome, and the traditional female celebratory cries (zaghrida) and chants such as “We love you, Father” and “The Pope is like a rose,” among others.
Equally wonderful was the participation of all ages in this epic of love: children, boys and girls, men and women, the elderly and the young. Everyone was present, and everyone was competing to receive the apostolic blessing from the Father and Shepherd who came to visit them and to inquire after their spiritual well-being, in a living application of the motto of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II: “LOVE NEVER FAILS.”
