The good deed is the fruit of faith, continues to have effect after death, and can avert misfortune, which is why it is to be done in a variety of forms.
The text is a Friday sermon that presents the good deed as a central element of Islam. The preacher emphasizes that good deeds are the fruit of faith in God, in the Prophet, and in the Last Judgment. He refers to Quranic verses and hadiths to show that good deeds continue to have effect after death and can even benefit one's children. Through the story of Musa and al-Khidr, it is illustrated how the piety of a father protects his descendants. The example of Aisha, who distributed a gifted sheep as alms, also serves to illustrate the point. The preacher highlights that verbal deeds such as remembrance, supplication, and asking for forgiveness are of great significance and can avert misfortune. Finally, the good deed is described as the cause of a good ending in life.

Peace be upon you. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah [singing] is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that there is no god [singing] but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Hurry to prayer, hurry to prayer, hurry to [singing] success, hurry to success. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is [shouting] no god but Allah. Praise be to Allah, praise be to Allah, by whose grace good deeds are completed, and by whose obedience life is made pleasant, and by whose favor blessings and mercies descend. I praise Him, exalted is He and glorified, and I thank Him and I extol Him and I seek His forgiveness. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. He distinguished us with the best of revealed books and honored us with the best of messengers sent, and He completed for us the grace with Islam. So He said, exalted is He and glorified: "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and chosen for you Islam as religion." And I bear witness that our master and our prophet and our lord Muhammad is His servant and His messenger, chosen from His creation and beloved to Him. He conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, gave sincere counsel to the Ummah. Allah removed the distress through him. He left us upon the white, straight path, its night like its day, and none strays from it except one who is lost. O Allah, send blessings and peace and bestow mercy upon this noble prophet and this great messenger, and upon his pure progeny and his righteous companions and the followers and the followers of the followers and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. I advise you and my sinful, deficient self, first, with the fear of Allah and obedience to Him, and with hearing and obeying what His prophet and messenger has commanded. Whoever obeys Allah and His messenger has guided himself and found the right path, and whoever disobeys Allah and His messenger has gone astray and transgressed, and he harms no one but himself and harms no one. O brothers and sisters in faith and Islam, the righteous deed has a very great place in Islam. It is the fruit of faith in Allah, exalted is He and glorified, and the fruit of faith in Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the fruit of faith in the Last Day. The importance of the righteous deed in our religion: Allah, exalted is He and glorified, has mentioned its importance in many verses and in multiple surahs in the Noble Quran. Allah, exalted is He and glorified, says: "By time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience." And Allah, exalted is He and glorified, says: "Whoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female, while he is a believer, We will surely give him a good life, and We will surely give them their reward according to the best of what they used to do." O noble brothers, the field of the righteous deed is vast in our religion, and this is from the grace of Allah, the Most High. This is from the blessings of Allah, exalted is He and glorified, upon us. For man, by his nature, is a weak person who cannot do all deeds. There are those upon whom Allah, exalted is He and glorified, has opened the door in spending and in zakah, and there are those upon whom Allah, exalted is He and glorified, has opened the door in fasting, and there are those upon whom Allah, exalted is He and glorified, has opened the door through the Hajj and the Umrah and other things, and there are those upon whom Allah, exalted is He and glorified, has opened the door through the Quran. So every person has a capacity and has an opening in a place, in some position. This is from the grace of Allah, the Most High. If a person is not able to do the righteous deed in one field, he can make up for that deficiency in another field and in another deed. Therefore, the righteous deed in our religion has a broad and vast concept that encompasses the deeds of the hearts and the deeds of the limbs, the outward deeds and the inward deeds, the individual deeds and the collective deeds. This is from the grace of Allah, exalted is He and glorified. Indeed, there are deeds, O brothers and sisters, that a person does in this world and he passes to the Hereafter, to the Hereafter, and this righteous deed remains, reaching him, serving him. And that is what our Messenger, peace be upon him, mentioned for us: "When the son of Adam dies, his deeds are severed except for three: a continuous charity, or a righteous child who prays for him, or knowledge from which benefit is derived." So this is, then, from the grace of Allah, exalted is He and glorified. Indeed, the righteous deed, just as it benefits the deceased after his death, so too does the righteous deed benefit the children. If the father is righteous, if the parent, the father, the mother, is righteous, then this righteous deed is not returned to him alone, but it also benefits his children after his death. It benefits his children after his death. And this is by the testimony of the Noble Quran when Allah, exalted is He and glorified, related to us in the Surah of Al-Kahf the story of our master Musa and Al-Khidr. So when Al-Khidr and Musa, peace be upon them, went to a village and asked its people for food but they did not feed them, and Al-Khidr found there a wall that was about to collapse, so he began to repair it and build it. Our master Musa rebuked him and said: "This people asked us for food and did not feed us, and you want to build for them this wall?" So he said, meaning at the end of the story, that Al-Khidr informed our master Musa and said: "Under this wall is a treasure that a father left. We fear that this wall will fall and the people will come and take this treasure. So we are building the wall upon it and preserving this wealth until the children grow up and they will come and benefit from this wealth." And he said: "And as for the wall, it was for two orphan boys in the city, and under it was a treasure for them, and their father was righteous, and their father was righteous. So the righteousness of the father, the righteousness of the father here, benefited his children after many long years." And so, O noble brothers, you see that the righteous deed is not something without value or benefit, but rather it is the deed that remains, the deed that remains after the perishing of this life. Once, a sheep was given to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, gave that sheep in charity. When the evening came, the Prophet, peace be upon him, came and said: "O Aisha, has anything remained of that sheep?" And Aisha said: "O Messenger of Allah, that sheep..."
That means she gave in charity to so-and-so and so-and-so and so-and-so and so-and-so, and nothing remained of it except the shoulder. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, it all went and nothing remained except the shoulder." He said, peace and blessings be upon him, "No, rather it all remained and only the shoulder went." That means everything you gave in charity is still preserved and recorded. That is, this correction—this prophetic saying—this is a saying that no philosopher or rational person or wise man or genius can utter. Rather, this saying of the Prophet is revelation from Allah, the Exalted and Glorified. "O Aisha, it all remained, it all remained." O brothers and sisters, righteous deeds encompass many matters. They encompass verbal deeds, that is, the deeds of the tongue. These, O brothers and sisters, are among the simple and easy righteous deeds that do not burden a person with any hardship or difficulty or effort. The remembrance, the supplication, the seeking of forgiveness. And this remembrance and this supplication and these righteous deeds also benefit you, O human being. They are not merely such words. The glorification and the seeking of forgiveness and the supplication are not merely such words that a person says with no value in them and no benefit in them. Rather, they carry a great meaning. They carry a great meaning. The glorification—you say, "Glory be to Allah and His praise, Glory be to Allah the Magnificent." This is a saying, but it is the remembrance of Allah, the Exalted and Glorified. Sometimes a person comes upon a calamity and a decree, and the person glorifies Allah, and Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, removes this calamity. The glorification—and the evidence for this is the story of Yunus, peace be upon him, when that long and well-known story happened to him, until he came to live in the belly of the whale. And who can live in the belly of the whale? No one. Rather, it is by the power of the All-Powerful, by the power of the All-Powerful. But even so, Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, brought him out of the belly of the whale, and he came to life and lived and fulfilled his role and his life. So what did Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, say? He said, "And had he not been among those who glorify, he would have remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected." "And had he not been among those who glorify, he would have remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected." The glorification is a saying, but it has a great meaning. The same is true of the seeking of forgiveness. When you seek forgiveness from Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, with sincerity and certainty and presence of heart, then it has a great meaning. It has a great meaning that also removes calamity. Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, says, "And it is not for Allah to torment them while you are among them, and it is not for Allah to torment them while they are seeking forgiveness." "And it is not for Allah to torment them while they are seeking forgiveness." The same is true of the supplication. The supplication is a saying, the supplication is a saying, but it has a meaning. It has a great meaning. In a hadith, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says in it: "Indeed, the supplication benefits from what has already descended and from what has not yet descended. And indeed, the calamity descends, and the supplication meets it, and they contend with each other until the Day of Resurrection." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, has spoken the truth. So the verbal righteous deeds, O brothers and sisters, have a great and very exalted station. Righteous deeds, as I said, are a broad and vast subject. Righteous deeds have a light in the life of a person, and they have a taste, and they have a blessing, and they also have a fruit. They also have a great fruit. Among their fruits is that they become a cause for a good ending. All of us, all Muslims, wish that their ending be a good ending. Every person, every Muslim, every believer—does not wish that Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, seal for them a good ending? Among its causes is righteous deeds. The evidence—Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, says: "Allah confirms those who have believed with the firm word in this worldly life and in the Hereafter." "Allah confirms those who have believed with the firm word in this worldly life and in the Hereafter." Those who said, "Our Lord is Allah," then remained steadfast—then remained steadfast upon righteous deeds—the angels descend upon them at the moment of death. The angels descend upon them: "Do not fear and do not grieve, and rejoice in the Paradise that you were promised." It is a glad tidings, and what a glad tidings it is! It is a great victory that the angels come and bring the person this great glad tidings. Righteous deeds, among their fruits, O brothers and sisters, is that they become a cause for the expiation of sins. And among their fruits is that they also bring the love of Allah, the Exalted and Glorified. Every one of us wants to be close to Allah, the Exalted and Glorified. Every one of us wants Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, to be pleased with them. And this love and this pleasure do not come about just like that. Rather, it necessarily requires effort. It requires a price. It requires work. "Indeed, Allah loves those who turn back in repentance, and He loves those who purify themselves." "And My servant does not draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him." So before you, O dear brother, is righteous deeds in order to reach this level. Among their fruits is that they train a person in obedience. Because we live in this life every moment, and in every minute, and in every hour. That is, before you, before you is the worldly life. [clears throat] Before you are the entrances of Satan. Before you are the desires of the self. That is, before you now are the social media, in which there are many things that try to bring to you the hardness of the heart. So the person, just as he is in every moment ready to deviate, righteous deeds make the person train himself to be a righteous person. So when the desire enters the heart, its problem is difficult. But the person struggles with what? With deeds, with righteous deeds. Righteous deeds, O noble brothers, have many and very many fruits. So we suffice with this amount, and we ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, to make us see our religion clearly and to open for us the insights of the light of truth and to guide us to the straight path. I say my saying and I seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for you, for He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. [clears throat] All praise is due to Allah alone, and there is no hand except
His blessing and peace be upon him. We seek refuge in Him from our own evil and from our blameworthy deeds. [Cough] When Allah guides, no one can misguide. And when Allah misguides, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and messenger. Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, surely good deeds and righteous actions hold a high status in Islam. These are the fruits of Iman and belief in Allah on the Day of Judgment and in His messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him). Due to this high importance, righteousness is mentioned in many places in the Quran. Allah says in Surat Al-Asr: "By the declining day, mankind is surely in loss, except those who believe and do righteous deeds and enjoin upon one another truth and enjoin upon one another patience." Allah also says in Surat An-Nahl: "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while being a believer, We will surely grant them a good life, and We will surely give them their reward according to the best of what they used to do." Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, the areas of good deeds and righteous actions are diverse in Islam. If one does not have the opportunity to do good in one area, one has the opportunity to achieve good deeds in other areas. The significance of good deeds and righteous actions in Islam is comprehensive. It encompasses the deeds of the heart and the senses, inwardly and outwardly, privately and publicly, individually and collectively. Some of these good deeds will accompany a person after his death. For example, ongoing charity, a science that benefits others, and a righteous and well-raised child. The very first good deeds are the obligations of a Muslim, such as the declaration of faith, prayer, Zakat, fasting, Hajj, good relations with relatives, generosity to guests and neighbors, visiting the sick, helping the afflicted, and supplications on behalf of your brothers and sisters in all lands. Another area of good deeds is what is spoken, such as Dhikr, supplication, the transmission of knowledge, kindness, and forbearance. Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, the paths to good deeds and actions are different. But the fruits one harvests are the same everywhere, and they are: a good ending to life. Second, being protected from blameworthy deeds. Third, the reason for entering Paradise. Fourth, the training of souls in obedience. Fifth, the reason for loving Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. O Allah, forgive us and grant us guidance, and give us all good things. Our Lord, accept from us, for You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. And turn to us in mercy, for You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. Our Lord, make us Muslims submitting to You, and from our descendants a nation submitting to You, and show us our rites and turn to us in mercy, for You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. O Allah, make this gathering of ours a blessed and merciful gathering, and make our parting from it a safe and successful parting, protected from evil. O Allah, do not leave for us in this station a sin except that You forgive it, nor a worry except that You relieve it, nor a defect except that You conceal it, nor a sick person except that You heal and pardon him. O Allah, show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. O Allah, take our hands to what is right and correct and to guidance, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, rectify our condition and the conditions of our families. O Allah, rectify our sons and daughters. O Allah, make them love faith and adorn it in their hearts, and make them hate disbelief, transgression, and disobedience, and make them among the rightly guided, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, support Islam and the Muslims, and honor Islam and the Muslims, and exalt Your word and the truth and the religion, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, be with Your oppressed servants. O Allah, be for them a protector and a helper and a supporter and a backer. O Allah, relieve their worries, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, O Lord, be for them and be with them by Your grace and Your generosity and Your nobility, O Most Noble of the noble, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O brothers and sisters, let us not forget to supplicate for our teacher and our sheikh who traveled for the sake of the Ummah, and she is very sick. We ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala in this hour which we consider an hour of answered supplication to grant her healing. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove her illness, You are the Healer, with a healing that leaves no illness behind, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, we ask You to heal all our sick. O Allah, heal our sick. O Allah, heal our sick and grant us well-being, O Most Merciful of the merciful. We ask
May Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, return our sheikh, our master Abd al-Latif, to you with a response, and may He reach him and preserve him on land and at sea and in the air, if Allah the Most High wills, and all the Muslims likewise. With us is a woman who donated 50 euros to the mosque and asks the honored attendees to pray for Sayyid Boui Khirshan al-Bashir. We ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, to accept from our sister this charity and to make it pure for His noble Face. We ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, to grant him healing. They ask for his healing. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the affliction. You are the Healer, there is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind. So we ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, likewise for his success and prosperity in his field of work. He is in the city of Nador. We ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, to grant him success in what He loves and is pleased with and to write for him success and prosperity. Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers. Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are th
