Friday is the best day of the week, and whoever performs the prescribed acts – ritual washing, arriving early, walking, listening attentively, and supplication – correctly receives an enormous spiritual reward, while missing the Friday prayer three times in a row leads to the sealing
The text is a sermon on the etiquette and virtues of Friday (Jumu'ah) in Islam. It begins with the claim that Allah has given Friday special significance because Adam was created on this day, entered Paradise, was expelled from it, and the Day of Judgment will take place on a Friday. It then lists concrete prescriptions for conduct: Ghusl (ritual washing) before the prayer, arriving early at the mosque, walking, listening attentively to the imam, and not being distracted. For each of these acts, a high reward in the form of fasting and night prayer over an entire year is promised. The text warns against missing the Friday prayer three times in a row, as a seal would then be placed on the heart. It also emphasises the 'Hour of Acceptance' (Sa'at al-Ijab), in which supplications are answered, and calls on the congregation not to waste this time. The text is addressed to the congregation present and combines theological statements with concrete everyday instructions.

And He has given virtue to time, some periods of time above others. Allah SWT has made Ramadan the best month within the year. And Allah SWT made the day of Arafah the best day in the year. And Allah SWT has made the day of Jumu'ah, the day of Friday, the best day of the week. The Prophet SAW said in the Hadith narrated by Muslim from the Hadith of Abu Hurayr, may Allah be pleased with him, he said He said The Prophet SAW said the best day in which the sun has risen is Friday, the day of Friday. Allah created Adam in him, and in him entered the paradise, and in him came out of it, and the hour is not established except on Friday. The Prophet SAW said on it, meaning the day of Friday, Adam SAW was created, and on it he was made to enter the paradise Jannah, and on it he was expelled from it. And the last hour, meaning the day of judgment, will only take place on the day of Friday. Meaning we still do not know what day the day of judgment is, however it will be on a Friday. But which Friday only Allah SWT knows. Yet Allah only chose this day from amongst the days of the week to hold these great events. And not only that, Allah SWT has also legislated acts of worship that are performed on this day. And from them is a prayer that is only performed on this day, and that is Salatu Al-Jum'ah. This act of worship, this great ibadah in which the Muslims gather with one another, listen to advice, and pray with one another. The Prophet SAW gave us rulings regarding this day. There are rulings in the Quran, rulings in the Sunnah regarding the etiquette and the manners, and the actions a person can perform on this blessed day. The first is that a person should perform ghusl before coming to the Masjid for Salatu Al-Jum'ah. The Prophet SAW said, Performing ghusl, cleaning yourself, is an obligation upon every single adult, every single person who has reached the age of puberty. And some scholars take from this hadith that it is an obligation, it is wajib a person has to perform ghusl. And others say it is highly encouraged that a person performs ghusl. Especially when you attend the Masjid and you come and you mix with the people, and you have a large gathering that you do not harm the Muslims, that you clean yourself and you prepare yourself and you adorn yourself. And likewise for any other act of worship which requires that a person mixes with others, that they perform and they clean themselves to take care of their fellow Muslims. And alongside showering and performing ghusl is also the ibadah of attending the Masjid early and coming to the Masjid early. The Prophet SAW said, The Prophet SAW mentioned in a hadith narrated by Ashab Al Sunan, that he says whoever washes, performs ghusl and cleanses himself on Friday, on the day of Jumu'ah. And performs ghusl, you clean yourself and your body, your nails, you go the extra mile in cleansing yourself. And then goes early to the Masjid. Not when the adhan is about to be called and not when the half an hour left for the prayer, a person sets out as early as they can. And another hadith, the Prophet SAW mentions the different levels of rewards according to how early you attended the Masjid for Salatul Jumu'ah. The Prophet SAW said, the person who does this, who cleans himself and goes to the Masjid early and walks to the Masjid without riding, without taking a vehicle, and comes close to the Imam, listening to the Imam. And they listened attentively. And they did not engage in idol talk. They did not engage in anything which distracts them from the focus that is required from them with the khutba. The Prophet SAW said, the person who does all these things, every single step that he takes, he will receive a reward for an entire year, the fasting of an entire year, the Qiyamul-Layl of an entire year, you receive with every single step that you take to the Masjid. And this is only for the person who has come with the conditions that we mentioned before, that you clean yourself, and that you attend the Masjid early, that you walk, and you pay attention and you do not distract yourself. And the issue of engaging in idol talk is not only from speech. Something as little as playing with pebbles as the Prophet SAW mentioned to us. Whoever plays with pebbles, something small, the Prophet SAW gave it as an example. Any person who does anything small or big to distract them from the khutba and listening to the Imam, this counts as idol talk. And to the extent, my brothers and sisters, that when a person is not listening to the Imam, when a person is distracted and you advise them, you say to them, listen carefully to the Imam, pay attentively, pay attention and be quiet. This is considered from idol speech that can affect your reward of your Juma'ah. That even within yourself, there's others speaking, there's others who are distracted. Let alone those who are looking at their phones, those who are scrolling while the Imam is speaking, even recording and using your phone, even if it's for the sake of benefit that you think, I want to listen to this khutba later on. This is still from idol speech, things which can take away from your reward. Your focus is required in the khutba. Nothing should be distracting you, even if you're doing zikr and reciting the Quran, you are not advised to do so. The Ibadah is being performed during the khutba is listening to the Imam with attention as the Imam speaks. So not only are you required to pay attention to yourself, you also require that when others are not paying attention, you do not tell them to listen. Another thing brothers and sisters, is that all this reward that we are mentioning was to do with the khutba. That person listens during the khutba, that person walks to the Masjid and sits down, listens to the Khatib attentively. So for those who come to the Juma'ah and neglecting the khutba and only attending the prayer, look at how much reward you are missing by just coming to the Salah and thinking, this is the only obligation that is upon you. When all of the goodness that we have mentioned is regarding the khutba, and the person who comes even later to the Salah, and the scholars even mentioned that when a person comes to the Salah after the second ruku'ah has been performed, and the Imam gets up from the second ruku'ah and he says, and you join the prayer from there on, you don't pray two rak'aat. You've missed Juma'ah, you join the prayer from there on and you get up and you pray four rak'aat praying the Zuhur. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars in Islam that have mentioned that a person can only catch the Juma'ah Salah if he has caught at least one rak'ah. So there's levels in the reward brothers and sisters, according to how early you attend. And the goodness and all of the goodness is the person who attends long before the Salah, long before the khutba, and sits down remembering Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, and asks for the one who has left of Juma'ah completely, missed the Salah and the khutba completely. This person is at great risk. The Prophet SAW said, Whoever leaves of Salah three times, three consecutive times without an excuse, without a reason of sickness or illness or forgetfulness or any of the excuses that are known in our religion. Whoever misses three Jumu'ah, the Prophet SAW said, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala places a seal on their hearts. All the doors of goodness are shut. Their heart is completely sealed. And a person does this by neglecting Salat al-Jumu'ah. Taha'unan, the Prophet SAW mentioned that a person does it by taking the Salah and the khutba lightly, by not paying attention to it, by thinking it's something irrelevant. So the Ajara of the Jumu'ah is both in the Salah, it's also in the khutba, and it's also throughout the Ibadah that's being performed. Continuing with the mention of the virtues of the day of Jumu'ah, there is another great opportunity for a person to gain immense reward on this blessed day. And that is when a person makes dua, adi, sa'at, al-ijab, the accepted time of dua. The Prophet SAW told us that there is an hour, meaning there's a period of time, that if a person was to ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, a believer was to ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala will give him. And this time, my brothers and sisters, the scholars, they differed as to appointing which time it is. And the strongest of the opinions are two opinions as mentioned by Ibn Qaym, Rahimullah. The first time is from when the Imam ascends the mimbar up until the Salah is finished and concluded. This whole period of time is a time where the dua is accepted by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. And this does not mean that a person should, instead of listening to the khatib, he should be making dua at the time of acceptance. No. Rather, you should be paying attention to the khatib and making dua at the times where you can. For example, when the Imam sits down, you can make dua in the break between the two khutbes. For example, when you're getting up to pray the Salah at this time, you can recite a few adi'ah within the prayer itself. Because the Prophet, peace be upon him, told us that it's until the Salah has ended. So within the prayer itself, it's considered as a time of acceptance. In the Sujood, you make dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala when you're closest to him. In the At-tihiyat and Tashahud, after reading what is necessary, you make dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and this way you have caught this time of acceptance. The second time, my brothers and sisters, is the final hour, final period of time. And this does not mean necessarily the final 60 minutes, but the final portion of the day of Friday. The Prophet, peace be upon him, mentioned in another hadith that it was the time. So you wait for this time and as soon as it arrives, you make dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. You constantly engage in dua. Anything that you want to ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for from the goodness of the dunya and the Akhirah. And how many times do we as Muslims neglect this hour on Friday? It comes to us every single week that we take it for granted. That we say to ourselves if we missed one Jumu'ah, insha'Allah I'll make dua the next week. And the best of us, perhaps my scramble and wait last 10 minutes before Salatul Maghrib and quickly sneak in a few ad-iya. And this is, we ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala to protect us a prevention from goodness. It's a prevention from goodness. That a person has such access to dua and a guarantee of acceptance. You can ask Allah for anything and you are in need. There's many things that you want from the dunya. There's many things that you want from the Akhirah. There's forgiveness that you're seeking. And you forget on the hour of Friday to make dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for those things. This is what Iyadu billah, min al-khidlan, my brothers and sisters. So you dedicate that time making dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala not for yourself only, for your loved ones, for your parents, for your teachers. And you do so sincerely for the sake of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. Another ibadah a person should engage in on the day of Friday. And also the rest of the week is sending Salat upon the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, told us regarding Friday that it is the best day and increase in sending Salat upon me. For indeed your Salat is presented to me. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, told us that when a person sends Salat upon, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said once, this is not only Yomul Juma'ah, but throughout the week that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala will send Salat upon him ten times. And what does this mean? Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala sending Salat upon you ten times is Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala praising you ten times. Praising you in the presence of angels, mentioning you with goodness. And this is achieved by saying Allahumma salli ala Muhammad once and you receive it ten times. So you increase in this goodness, especially on this day. You send Salat upon the Prophet, peace be upon him, and finally just a warning from an act that some people may perform thinking that they're doing good. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, warned against it. A person may assume because the day of Friday is such a virtuous day, I should dedicate an active worship to this day. I should fast especially for this day. And the night before Juma'ah, the later to Juma'ah, I should dedicate qiyam and pray the night prayer because of this blessed day. But the Prophet, peace be upon him, warned against it. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said in a hadith narrated by Bukhari Muslim, Don't spend the night prayer with qiyam from between the nights. And don't spend the day prayer with qiyam from between the days except that there will be a fasting day. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, Do not specify the day of Friday, the night of Friday with any qiyam that you only pray qiyam on the night of Friday thinking there's extra virtue and that you fast specifically on the day of Friday and you give a dedicated fast just for this day. The Prophet, peace be upon him, warned against it. And he said, except if it is a day from the days that a person was fasting. For example, a person fasts one day on one day off. And one of the days that they were fasting was a Friday. This person is not included in this prohibition. Or if a person had another intention and was fasting a certain type of fast and it happened to be on a Friday, then this is also permissible. But a person to dedicate a fast for the day of Friday, this is something the Prophet, peace be upon him, said in a hadith narrated by Bukhari Muslim, He said, He's a good example. This recording was produced by Green Lane Mushed.
