Congratulations to all on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the Gathering of the 318 Fathers !!!
The 17th of Meskerem is a double feast that celebrates the arrival and honour of the Holy Cross in Ethiopia as well as the Gathering of the 318 Fathers as community-forming events.
The care of our Mother, the holy Virgin Mary, the blessing of the Holy Cross, and the firm faith of our Fathers do not let us go, Amen.
The text is a festive greeting for the 17th of Meskerem in the Ethiopian Orthodox calendar. It recalls two feasts: the Exaltation of the Cross and the Gathering of the 318 Fathers, which is referred to as "many Marys." The text recounts that the Cross came from Queen Eleni through King David from Alexandria to Ethiopia and there fell asleep in honour on Mount Kerkib in Gishen. The Gathering of the Fathers is associated with the Council of Aries. The care of Mary, the blessing of the Cross, and the faith of the Fathers are named as binding forces. The text closes with a call to follow the social media channels of the community of the Saints. It is a liturgical announcement with a community-forming character.
