The spiritual life consists in the liberation from passions and people-pleasing through prayer, humility, and the following of Christ.
Purity, according to the theophoric Fathers, is the liberation of the human being from the passions.
The text is a collection of short Orthodox Christian contributions on the spiritual life. They deal with topics such as unbelief, prayer, God's will, the cross, purity, humility, and people-pleasing. The contributions are based on the theophoric Fathers and the patristic tradition. They are addressed to believers who wish to deepen their inner life. The texts combine biblical and patristic statements with practical guidance for everyday life. They invite self-examination, patience, and turning away from people-pleasing. The tone is both instructive and encouraging. It is about the inner attitude of the human being before God and in the community.

Unbelief and "Unbelief"
The skepticism of the Lord's disciple Thomas towards the confession of the other disciples that the Lord had risen, a skepticism that we remember on October 6th on the occasion of his martyrdom and his glorious entry into the Kingdom of God, always becomes an occasion for reflection on the great theme of doubt and even of unbelief. Because […]

Prayer – Attention
Prayer as a movement of man – mainly in difficult situations – towards something or Someone who transcends him, seeking support, is not unknown. A spontaneous movement of the soul, calmly or intensely, depending on the problem it has before it. There is also prayer as thanksgiving, once man feels the divine help and realizes […]

Do you want the will of God?
The perception that God is almighty and we are weak, that He does whatever He wants and whenever He wants and we depend on Him, creates a sense of servility. After all, in the mysteries the priest does not say before the name "The servant of God…"? How, however, does Christ say to His disciples and by extension […]

The cares of life
Man, according to the God-bearing Fathers, is a mixture of material and spiritual. He has a material substance, because he has a body, but at the same time he has a spiritual substance, because he has an immortal soul. With this reasoning, Saint Symeon the New Theologian, a great hesychast father of the East, notes: "This is man, a mortal and immortal being, a spectator of the visible creation […]

Expectations of the Cross
People in our life have expectations. We want to achieve goals, we hope that our loved ones will support us, that some will be found who will share our thoughts and visions, that we deserve to succeed and that circumstances will come about so that whatever we expect will be realized. Our expectations help us not to be broken in difficulties, […]

Access – The Cross of Christ in our life
The spiritual in the Orthodox Church is a way of life, outside the space-time of the present world. While it exists within the world, it lives and acts in the last things, in the new world of the promise and the revelation. In the program Access, hieromonk Fr. Gennadios Manolis converses with guests from the field of the Church and society, seeking the antibodies […]

To live without explanations?
In an era in which Social Media Networks create a climate of demands for people to explain what they do and why they do it, especially when they are public figures, the slogan has fallen: "Live without explanations." The old ones used to say "to live without caring what the world will say." This was considered a sign of a free soul, […]

The weakness of God
Our childhood perceptions of God, identical with the religious ones, present us with a strong God, demanding and harsh, spying on our lives and punishing our disobediences that oppose His will. Perceptions that torment, that create fears and guilt, so that it would be preferable "that there be no God". Of course, those who reject such a God […]

Purity of body and soul
Purity, according to the God-bearing Fathers, is the liberation of man from the passions. It corresponds to the dual nature of the human person, that is, to the fact that man is flesh and soul. Thus, according to Abba Isaac the Syrian, "purity of the body is holiness from the defilement of the flesh, and purity of the [...]

Do Not Think
Do not think that you can easily understand your intentions, interpret your behaviors, and analyze yourself. For "the soul of man is an abyss," as the common expression goes. And the prophet David writes of the "deep heart" (Ps. 63), that is, of the unfathomable thoughts of man. Therefore, you cannot be absolute in your judgments [...]

People-Pleasing
Amma Sarah said: "It is good for the eyes of men that someone should do almsgiving. For even from humanity it leads to the pleasing of God" (from the "Gerontikon"). We humans have in our soul a desire that becomes the criterion of the actions of our life: "to please." Thus, we do things to be approved of. We are pleased to [...]
