Sura Isra contains the central ethical and ritual obligations of the Muslim, whose observance promises relief in hardship and reward in the hereafter.
O man! If you do not want to be condemned and left alone, then take no god except Allah! If your mother, your father, or both of them grow old with you, then do not say even 'Oh, man!' to them and do not rebuke them!
The text is a Friday sermon of the DITIB that refers to Sura Isra (17) and is delivered in the context of the Night of the Ascension in the month of Rajab. It recalls the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad from the sacred prayer site in Mecca to the distant prayer site in Jerusalem. The preacher addresses the believers directly and derives concrete ethical and ritual instructions from the verses of the sura. These include reverence for parents, the just distribution of goods, the protection of orphans, the keeping of promises, the avoidance of arrogance, and the obligation of daily prayer. The sermon concludes with a glad message from a hadith about the reward in Paradise for the recitation of the Quran. The text connects the soteriological remembrance with everyday moral demands and a prospect of eschatological reward.

Messages from the Surah Isra
(24.01.2025)
We are approaching the last days of the blessed month of Rajab. Just as we welcomed the month of Rajab with the Laylat al-Raghaib, we will gradually bid farewell to it with the Laylat al-Miraj. On the coming Sunday evening, inshaAllah, we will observe the Laylat al-Miraj. With the Laylat al-Miraj, we are reminded once again that with every hardship comes ease and that we should never lose hope in Allah.
Dear brothers and sisters! Esteemed believers!
When it comes to Isra (the Night Journey) and Miraj (the Ascension), the Surah Isra is undoubtedly the first surah that should be addressed.
Isra means "Night Journey." The first verse of the surah reveals to us both the route and the destination of this special journey as follows: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful! Praise be to Him who took His Servant by night from the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) to the Farthest Mosque (Masjid al-Aqsa), whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing." [1] The route of the journey is the two qiblas (directions of prayer) of the believers, the destination of the journey the signs of Allah, the Almighty…
Honored brothers and sisters!
Let us turn our faces to the Masjid al-Haram and our hearts to the Masjid al-Aqsa, and let us attentively listen to the commands and prohibitions of the Surah Isra:
O human!
If you do not want to be condemned and left alone, then do not take any god besides Allah! If your mother, your father, or both grow old with you, then do not say even "Ugh!" to them and do not rebuke them! Always speak loving words to them, show mercy, protect them, and pray for their well-being!
O human!
Give to your relatives what is due to them, give to the poor what is due to them, and also give to the traveler what is due to them. Do not waste your resources unnecessarily! Do not be too stingy! If you do not want to fall into a blameworthy situation, do not be too generous either! Be balanced, do not act recklessly! Do not forget that Allah is our Provider. Therefore, do not take the life of your child out of fear of provision. Do not kill the life that Allah has declared inviolable!
O human!
Never approach an unlawful relationship! Do not seize the wealth of the orphan, unless it is for his benefit, until he reaches maturity to manage his wealth himself. Keep your promises! Remember that every promise given carries a responsibility! Let your scale be just! When you measure, measure accurately! Do not deceive! Do not cheat anyone! Do not speak speculatively about a topic about which you have no knowledge, and do not follow something about which you have no information!
O human!
Do not be arrogant, do not walk around haughtily. [2] Be polite, kind, and humble! When you communicate with others, choose the most beautiful words! Do not neglect to stand in the presence of your Lord five times a day! Also try to come closer to Allah, in addition to the obligatory ritual prayers, by performing the Tahajjud prayer at night. [3]
May Allah enable us to comply with this and all the commands and prohibitions of the Qur'an. I would like to conclude my sermon with a glad tidings that the living Qur'an – our Prophet – will announce to the friends of the Qur'an in Paradise: "Recite and ascend. Just as you read the Quran in the world with reflection, so recite it here also in a careful manner! For your level is at the last verse you recite." [4]

Botschaften aus der Sure Isra
(24.01.2025)
Oh Mensch!
