Female religious leaders from different traditions can, through encounter and the questioning of power-conscious structures, develop a vision of peaceful and just coexistence that strengthens faith rather than abolishing it.
The text is an invitation to the German film premiere of "We Are the Change" on the occasion of International Women's Day. The film documents the encounter of eight female religious leaders from Germany and France in the autumn of 2021. The protagonists come from Islamic, Christian, and Jewish traditions and develop in a protected space their vision of peaceful coexistence. Their focus is on gender equality and the strengthening of women's voices within their respective faith communities. The message does not aim at the abolition of faith, but at the dissolution of power-conscious structures and the search for new narratives. The event takes place on 8 March 2022 at the Ibn Rushd – Goethe Mosque in Berlin and is funded by the German-French Citizens' Fund. Following the screening, an exchange with the protagonists is planned.

On the occasion of International Women's Day:
Invitation to the German film premiere
at the Ibn Rushd – Goethe Mosque
“WE ARE THE CHANGE –
ON THE POWER OF ENCOUNTER”
A film by Benjamin Best
Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Ottostraße 16, 10555 Berlin.
Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Duration: 45 min (with German and French subtitles)
In the face of hatred and violence in the name of religions, eight female representatives of faith from Germany and France met in the southwest of France in the autumn of 2021. The imams Seyran Ateş and Eva Janadin, the Catholics Lisa Kötter and Paule Zellitch, the vicar and current parish priest Lena Müller, and the pastor Jane Stranz, as well as the rabbis Ulrike Offenberg and Iris Ferreira. In the protected space of the Place of Encounter Château d’Orion, they developed their vision of peaceful coexistence and gender equality within their faith communities.
All have embarked on an exceptional and difficult path within their religion and denomination. Their desire for reforms does not aim at abolishing faith, but at strengthening it.
Power-obsessed structures and claims to truth must dissolve; that is their message. Female voices must be louder, new narratives must be found. They fight for more spirituality, for a faith of diversity without barriers. As individual fighters, they are well known in their countries; since their encounter, they are connected and on the path together.
The award-winning filmmaker Benjamin Best accompanied this encounter. Full of drive, attacked, even threatened, often at the limit of their strength, these inspiring women break with traditional role perceptions in their religions. The film tells of a courageous departure and the strength of a German-French encounter. It is a passionate look forward, combining poetry and provocation, and contributes to a highly current discussion within politics, religion, and society.
The encounter and the film became possible thanks to funding by the German-French Citizens' Fund and with the support of the German Coordinating Council of Societies for Christian-Jewish Cooperation e.V. (DKR).
Present, in addition to the founder of the Ibn Rushd – Goethe Mosque, Seyran Ateş, are also the rabbi Ulrike Offenberg and the parish priest Lena Müller. Following the film, there is an opportunity to engage in an exchange with the protagonists. Words of greeting via livestream: Parish Priest Ilona Klemens, Secretary General of the DKR / Benjamin Kurc, Head of the German-French Citizens' Fund.
