Information on the GBC Handover July 12, 2025 by Krishna Premarupa Dasa originally published in English on ISKCON News On Sunday, June 1, approximately 40 devotees gathered at ISKCON Hari Nama Desh – a temple community about 25 km northwest of Wiesbaden – to express their deep appreciation for Mother Dina Sharana Devi Dasi, the former GBC of the German-speaking Yatra. The celebration was part of a four-day leadership meeting (annual assembly). The event began on Thursday with a presentation and workshop by Radha Krishna Prabhu, the GBC for Hungary, focusing on self-sufficiency and the building of farm communities. On Friday, the general assembly of ISKCON Germany-Austria met. On Saturday, approximately 15 Yatra leaders participated in the colorful Ratha Yatra Festival in Heidelberg before returning to Hohenstein near Wiesbaden to celebrate on Sunday the loving tribute to the woman many affectionately call the "Mother of the German Yatra." In February 2025, during the GBC meeting in Mayapur, Mother Dina Sharana officially stepped down from her GBC duties and received the honorary title GBC Emerita. The gathering on Sunday was an opportunity for the Yatra to express its collective gratitude and love. A beautiful brochure titled A Life of Devotion – Gratitude and Appreciation for M. Dina Sharana DD was compiled and presented to her. It contained contributions from nearly 40 devotees – including several GBC members and many local leaders. During the celebration, the moving texts were read aloud by those present, often supplemented by personal words of recognition. The atmosphere was warm, sincere, and emotionally uplifting. Mother Dina Sharana responded to the appreciation with grace and affection, reacting to each offering with a story, a memory, or a touching remark, thereby highlighting her personal connection to each devotee. Thus three hours passed in deep gratitude and loving remembrance of her tireless service. Many local devotees expressed not only their respect for her leadership role but also their gratitude for her loving care – particularly for the women and children of the community. She was remembered not only as a GBC but also as a friend, mentor, and spiritual mother. The children joyfully presented her with handmade gifts, giving the day a special touch. The event concluded with a gift presentation, an arati for the Deities, and a festive Prasadam feast. Mother Dina Sharana was visibly moved by the wave of affection. The commemorative brochure A Life of Devotion was distributed to all participants – not only as a sign of appreciation but also as a historical document of her remarkable service. These contributions were written to touch the heart of Mother Dina Sharana and bring her joy – a humble attempt to honor her invaluable service and her unwavering devotion. At the same time, the brochure stands as a testament to a significant era in the history of the German Yatra, shaped and nurtured by her guiding presence. Below are some excerpts from the brochure that provide insight into the appreciation for Mother Dina Sharana: "Dina Sharana Dasi has shown what the GBC members already knew – but perhaps others in our community need a reminder: that women in Srila Prabhupada's movement, Vaishnavis, can play important roles at the highest levels of our society and leadership – and do so. As Srila Prabhupada taught, there is 'no difference between boys and girls' in preaching." – Anuttama Dasa "In the GBC body, she was always balanced and self-assured, consistently bringing forward valuable proposals and voicing relevant concerns. It is truly remarkable and praiseworthy that, despite her advanced age and family commitments, she was willing and able to take on such a demanding service for Srila Prabhupada's mission in her zone. Moreover, she handed over her GBC responsibility to the next generation in an exemplary manner – a true example of successful succession." – Bhaktivaibhava Swami "Dina Sharana Devi took on GBC responsibility for a region of the ISKCON world that urgently needed more intensive care. She appeared seemingly 'out of nowhere' as a leader with attention and vision, as she resolutely deployed her rich treasure of intelligence and heart. Now the one whom I rightly call 'the Empress' is retiring – surely to deepen her chanting and hearing. We bow before her great drive in bhakti and her dedication to Srila Prabhupada. May the next generation of leaders appreciate her example." – Devamrita Swami "Your tireless dedication over the past fifty years has been a lighthouse of inspiration for devotees around the world. During my visits to Germany, I have personally witnessed the impact of your service, and I have always experienced your presence as uplifting for the devotees. Your community is of inestimable value, and I deeply appreciate it. (…) Your life is a testament to the power of devotion and surrender, and the entire ISKCON family is grateful for your contribution to this holy mission of Sri Caitanya." – Jayapataka Swami "Seeing you in action was impressive! You took on a catastrophic situation and yet saved the German yatra brilliantly! Srila Prabhupada's heroine in service to his lotus feet – you have made your mark in the history of ISKCON in Europe. (…) You are definitely a beloved daughter of Srila Prabhupada." – Malati Devi Dasi Mutter Dina Sharana ki jaya!
